Chapter 45: 45. Speed running.
It appears the knights did count as more people as monsters started to literally spawn out of the walls to combat us. Usually the max a group travels in is 4 to make sure that spawns don't increase we have over 3 times that amount so the spawns are larger.
The first floor group has 5 goblins now all charging at us and quickly getting obliterated. The knights efficiently extract the cores and we barely stop moving as we decimate groups making our way down.
The new weapons slice through goblin flesh, Kobold fur and even Lizardmen with ease. Once we hit lizardmen which have groups of about 15, 3 of the knights start to rapidly strip the beasts of their armored skin which are dumped into a portal with monster cores. We are here for money after all and Lizardmen skin is valuable.
The knights as a group are quick, ruthless and efficient, not a single wasted movement as we make our way through the masses of lizardmen literally crawling out of the walls.
On a bonus note, I can feel that every time they kill something excellia sprinkles into my body. The same thing with Boko when he was killing creatures, I believe since they run on my magic they are technically considered a part of myself so I gain the experience when they kill things. Their strength increases when mine increases.
I mean in games usually you get the experience your summons earn you when killing monsters. I dunno how it's all calculated but still I'm not going to complain about free exp.
We barely stopped moving through the swarm of lizardmen, only stopping if too many were killed and needed to be skinned, even then it just meant another knight would help with the skinning process. Basically I was in charge of just opening a portal for storing the lizardmen skin and magic crystal's. I barely saw any combat, but that was fine as it allowed me to see how skilled they are first hand.
Just imagine something like 13 people with the skills of Sephiroth just mowing down monsters like fucking grass.
It was beautiful and fucking terrifying. I have no doubt in my mind I might be able to match 1 of the knights, but 2 of them could probably kill me. 13 though? No chance at all, their teamwork was fucking flawless and they didn't even need to speak it seems to coordinate.
The walls around us suddenly rumbled and started to spew out waves of lizardmen. "Monster party!" I call out. A monster party is basically a irregular spawning of monsters in mass the dungeon randomly throws at people. Most of the time leading to the death of a group.
It didn't matter in this case though. You could throw 15 lizardmen or 100 lizardmen at the knights, and it wouldn't make much of a difference. They were built for battle, they didn't get tired, their weapons didn't break, their armor didn't crack. The hundreds of monsters running at them from all directions only met death.
A few minutes later and the monster party was completely wiped out and the knights rapidly dismantled the free money piled up.
They had even adjusted how they killed the lizardmen to prevent damaging the scales.
"I wish I had summoned you all earlier you're all great." I tell the knights who all let out happy noises at being praised.
We continue into the dungeon. We already have hundreds of lizardmen skins and it's not even been more than an hour.
On the next floor down we certainly run into new creatures, Toad shooters, needle rabbits, even a couple of War Shadows which are swiftly killed when they try to sneak attack the knights walking by crevices.
Finally however we run into one of the creatures I've been searching for. Killer Ants.
As soon as the knights slaughter the first one a stink is released into the air, the ants crawls out of the walls and crevices like well..ants. Their outer shells pose no threat to the incredible weapons of the knights, and the more that are killed the more that swarm. We also learned that if you throw one of the corpses into my portal, it explodes into dust just leaving behind the magic crystal. The body basically explodes as soon at it hits the portal so all I'm left with is magic crystals this is great as the corpses pile up fast and they have nothing of use on them except magic crystals. Can use this for fast looting on monsters we don't need parts from.
"Should have brought shovels!" I laugh pushing a pile of ants into the portal on the ground.
I can feel a steady warm trickle of excellia constantly entering my body at this point. Dunno how much it is, even little bits of experience is still experience. I am not unfamiliar with a grind for experience or items.
We spend most of the morning and afternoon just demolishing Killer Ants which seem endless. A couple monster parties pop up but they are just swept away by the tide of bug monsters.
I have a veritable mountain of monster cores now that I can sell af the guild. It should be way more than enough for registration of all the Chocobo and new saddles. Especially with the addition of the small mountain of lizardmen skin.
"Alright we can head out for now and cash in our goods." I call out.
Blasts of lightning and fire magic incinerate most of the ant horde and we easily slip away. No need to loot those corpses as we would just be swarmed by more ants once more.
We do quick kills on the way back just dumping the bodies for extra cores and making sure we don't leave behind hordes or monsters for newbies coming to train.
It doesn't take more than 20 or so minutes to reach the exit. "Ah, fresh air. I was getting tired of the ant stink." I frown taking off my helmet and sucking in fresh air.
"Would you like me to tend to your armor and weapons once we return my king?" One of the knights asks.
"Hmm? Sure, thank you." I thank the knight who seems smug, dunno how a set of armor can be smug but she manages to do so while the other knights mutter.
