Chapter 2: Chapter Two

"The wisteria forest that was once so full of yin energy and always raining petals of white and pink, fell in a rain of fire and metal. Engulfed by flames and swallowed by gree the wyverns fell under the hands of humans who wanted their beauty and the dragons who wanted their land. The wyverns who were once admired for their elegance and freedom were forced through the Zepher, never to return..." "...Mother....are you hungry?" Kknoir softly spoke to her mother who continued to sit in a daze, staring at the Zepher entrance.

Her mother hums in response, Kknoir ignores the hair that freed from her ponytail and brushes her mother's own loose hair back from her face instead so she could see the portal entrance clearer. Her actions were natural and gentle as if she was long use to the distant gaze and uninterested response her mother gave when spoken to during this time of day. Kknoir's hair was a silver color with tints of pink under the sunlight coming from the window giving off a charming aura. As she leans over to carefully cover her mother's shoulders with a lynx fur blanket she continued to speak to her daydreaming mother kindly. "The elders have sent over the black fox fur, daughter will sew mother a new dress with it for fall."

This time her mother does look away, with large peach-colored eyes and hair similar to her daughter her mother resembles a beautiful rabbit. Gentle and warm-hearted. Her mother caresses her daughter's cheeks and lovingly brushes her hair away so the sharp and serious features that resembled her father's are more apparent behind the loose strands of hair. She smiles softly but it does not reach her eyes, Kknoir's heart felt pain each time her mother looked like this. Each day without a word from outside, more and more of her mother's heart is torn off and more of her personality is lost to the wind. "Make cloak for yourself instead, my heart and mind will not stop worrying when you go outside."

Kknoir hid her heartache and forces a smile on her face while tenderly rubbing her face against her mother's stomach. "Likewise, daughter will not be at ease if mother catches a chill." Her mother laughs softly knowing it was just an excuse Kknoir was making to force the fur onto her. "I know you have good intentions, but do not worry. We are the gods' beloved, no matter what is thrown our way the gods will continue to bring wind and love our way. As long as the wind continues to blow and the skies continue to be wide and open, we will never be caught."

Her voice grows softer as her gaze wanders back to the portal entrance with a sorrowful expression. "Not by humans or illness. The wind will always be by our side, watching over us." Kknoir's hands that were resting in her mother's lap tighten into fists seeing this familiar action of hers. "Mother, does it hurt? Does it hurt that badly?" Her mother's eyes flicker for a moment before she closes her eyes and hums for a response again.

Kknoir asks her again with a hint of desperation, "Does it hurt that much to lose a mate?" Her memories of her father were blurred, but although she did not remember much she did recall the way his large figure would loom over her making her feel safe and protected. The way he would gently nuzzle her cheeks with his own as if she was the most precious thing to him. If it hurts so much to lose a mate, I never want to have one at all. The woman who wore her heart on her sleeve smiles sadly to herself, she knew her daughter's thoughts.

"Do not fear the call of a mate my dear." The young woman stubbornly shook her head, "If I accept a mate I will have to leave mother's side." And if she left her mother's side...who would she have left? Feeling a hand on her head, Kknoir was a bit stunned but then she was elected in her heart since this was the first time her mother had come to her instead of the other way around. Most of the time when she looked back to the window she would not respond or move for hours no matter what she said.

The yearning for her mother's familiar warmth causes her to almost purr and act spoilt. "I can feel it...he is not gone." Kknoir's heart raced and she held her breath with surprise and disbelief. She looks up quickly but her mother had already gone back to that soulless staring at the portal making the questions she wanted to speak out loud choke her instead. Her mouth opens to continue her chanting, her words haunting to the ears.

"There was a time where we could follow the wind, from the east to the west, from the north to the south. A time where there was peace among the people, and peace among the races. There was no war and no fighting, a time when humans would do nothing more than admire us from afar...." Knowing her story from heart Kknoir turns away from her mother's ramblings with confusion and conflict inside. What does she mean, he is alive?

But the elders said... Standing she says few more words which are ignored by her mother before walking out with her worn-out leather cloak. Hesitating she took one more glance behind her but her mother no longer paid attention to the world around her. "Mother I am going out." She closes the door not waiting for a reaction that would never come. "Kknoir." She stiffens hearing the person who called for her beside her home. She lowers her head and did not look his way, seeing she was planning on avoiding him Corbett's eyes flash with hurt.

The young man whose hair of silver and eyes of pink steps in front of her, she bit her lip and made to go around him. But he was also stubborn and directly held her in place, his hold was gentle but firm making it hard for her to break free. The woman's eyes flicker as frustration and anger enter her heart, glowering up at him she hissed fiercely. "Unhand me Corbett or I will call for the elders!" Corbett smiled down at her bitterly, lowering his head he gently kisses her forehead much to her shock.

This action of his was very gentle and loving making her body tremble with fear and pressure. She did not think he would be so bold! Opening her mouth to scream out for an elder he saw through her intentions and hurriedly brought a hand to cover her mouth helplessly. "Kknoir..after knowing each other for so long, you know I would never harm you." Shaking him off much herself she could see the sadness in his eyes seeing her rejection.

"It is not you that I fear." She refused to look at him again and stiffly looks away making her stance on the matter clear. Corbett gave a bitter low laugh, he knows. He knows she does not fear him, but it is his love for her that scares her. Looking at the young woman's lashes and distance on her expression he felt a crack in his heart once more.

"Your father would not want you to fear the love and affection of others, your mother as well. Will you truly not give me a chance to love you and show you I will never hurt you?" Recalling her mother's lonely figure sitting by the window day and night Kknoir pursed her lips stubbornly and the last bit of hope in his heart dies. "It is not them who choose for me to be this way, Corbett, as you have said. We have known each other long enough to understand each other. Though you love me, I fear I will never be able to love you."

Corbett also lowers his gaze from her, the air between the two that was ambiguous and tense now became bland and gloomy after the finality in her voice. Then he laughs harshly and left, stomping away while running a hand through his hair with frustration. There was hurt in his eyes he did not want her to see, the pain of her rejection was more intense than she would be able to handle. As he walks away he shakily says, "Even now I love you, doing this and trying to be the villain. In the end no matter what you say, you love me too don't you?"

The coldness in her eyes did not go away, there was not a single fluctuation on her face. She gave away nothing. So, all he could do walk away with a broken heart and no answer to his question. "My love for you is not the same as the love you hold for me." "..." The pause was only for a millisecond before he only quietly left her without looking back.

Closing her eyes, she gave a slow and heavy exhale as her neck extends and her bones crack violently in her body. Taking a deep breath she could feel her lungs grow larger, her body expanding, she could feel the scales climb up her body covering her in a layer of silver. Each scale shimmers and shone in the light giving off a cool and soft glow. Opening her beautiful peach eyes, the female wyvern who dwarfed the cabin behind her shook her long neck and gallops a small distance before taking flight. Her large wings spreading wide as the wind hurriedly lifts her large body off the ground to join the others above her.
