Chapter 13: A Normal Looking Pear

"Eeeueghhh…" I moaned out loud with my thick telepathic voice.

After that moaning, I looked at the branch I'm trying to focus all the mana in. Yes, it feels like the water there is thicker, but I do not feel anything different… Well except for the fact that the water looks like its about to drop, but it won't, and it's really triggering my OCD.

After doing that for probably 20 times now, I asked the still-silent Iris, "Is something supposed to happen?"

No response.

I asked for the second time, "Iris? Anything happening?"

After a while, her cute voice finally came out, "Y-yes, My Lord?"

"Oh, there you are" I sighed, "Have something happened yet?"

And… no response again.

"You see, if I open my eyes right now, I will lose my 'feel' of this flow of water, and it will stop" I complained, "Will you talk?"

"Well you can open your eyes, My Lord." She replied.

Breathing an imaginary sigh, I opened my eyes, where the first thing I see is Iris staring blankly at empty space.

"Nothing's different Iris."

After a minute, no response again. Why won't she speak?

I clear my throat, "Excuse me, Iris?"

As soon as I spoke, she cocked her head towards me and gulped.

"O-oh! My Lord!" She jumped, "I am simply shocked… My Lord."

Did she see a ghost?

"Why is that?"

She took a couple of breaths, then looked at me.

"Look at the branch you were focusing on, My Lord."

Listening to her, I looked at the branch I was trying to, flow? Move? Direct? Mana into … I do not know really I just kinda eeuuergh'ed it to that branch.

Wow, is that a fruit? Well that's a cool looking fruit, it's an extra huge pear with patterns swirling all over it… is that normal?

"What is that?" I asked Irish.

I looked at Iris, who's hands are now covering her hands and looking at the fruit-thing with wide eyes. "I do not know, My Lord." She replied, taking in two deep breaths after.

"Well it does look like a fruit… right?" I asked.

"Yes it does, My Lord" She nodded, "Except that it is not a fruit."

"What do you mean?"

"It is FLAMING with mana, My Lord."

"What? Flaming? What do you mean?"

"Can't you feel it, My Lord?"

"Feel what?"

"The mana, My Lord?" She answered with a particularly high tone.

Oh! right… if it's not mana what else could it be— and was that a sarcastic reply?

"How would I feel it?"

"Like what you did before, My Lord." She answered again with that high tone.

I closed my eyes, starting to concentrate on that flow of mana again then tried to 'feel' the mana on that branch. Then, I saw that big water that is about to drop, and it is kinda shaped like the— Is that the fruit?! Oh, wow now that I realize it, that is way more blue than the mana flowing on the tree.

"Is that the fruit?" I asked out loud.

"Yes, My Lord, it is."

"Is it normal?"

" I have lived for almost two centuries on forests with my sister and NO, My Lord, that is totally NOT normal…"

Well I could feel the emphasis on that…

I tried to 'direct' more of the mana to the fruit then afterwards… it dropped to the grass.

I immediately opened my eyes to see if it exploded but no, it did not explode, well that's good news. But its glowing and… there are patterns swirling around it.

"What is it?" I asked the still breathless Iris as I leaned forward again in an attempt to leave the tree, and it worked!

"I apologize, My Lord, but I really do not know what it is." She shook her head.

Hmmm, this calls for the legendary scientific method.

"Iris, would you get me something to write on? I asked, rubbing my hand on my chin while looking at the fruit on the ground.

"As you wish, My Lord." She bowed then disappeared.

First, Key takeaways. This fruit-thing was formed by the merging? Should I call it merging? Yes, I will call it merging. This fruit-thing was formed by the merging and redirection of mana. Second, It has a lot of mana in it. And lastly, it hadn't existed until I made it… Which means this is a first.

Second step, questions; First, what is it made off of? Second, what will it do when ingested and three, how did I make it.

Then a background search… which is impossible since it hasn't existed before. Only thing is about mana… The energy of the world.

Hypothesis, this fruit-thing is made off of highly condensed mana, it is dangerous.

Then experimen-

"My Lord, I have brought you something to write on." Iris suddenly appeared, interrupting my thought as she slowly walks over to me and hands me a book and quill—Book and quill?!

"Why? What is this?"

What's with this? Are we in the 15th Century? Oh, right... I'm in another world which probably is behind in terms of technology because they had magic.

"What do you mean, My Lord, I thought you want something to write on?"

"Do not mind that." I shook my hand, accepting the book and quill. "Can you move away for a bit?"

"As you wish. My Lord." She bowed.

I then started writing down everything I was thinking about in order.

The experiment huh… How would I test this fruit thing th-

"What is that language, My Lord?" Iris interrupted me again.

"It's called Japanese." I replied, while writing.

"How have you come to know of it, My Lord?" She asked me, then looked at me in the face.

Face… What do I look like? Am I handsome?

"Well I am kinda doing it as I go"

Then sparks ignited in her eyes, "You are creating a language, My Lord?!" She exclaimed, "That is amazing!"

"Yes, sure, I know I am amazing but can you be quiet for a little?" I tapped her shoulders, "And find my an insect."

Then her tone did a 360° "As you wish, My Lord."

Then she backed away a little, now I feel kinda bad.

"What kind of insect, My Lord?" She asked.

"Anything, bring me two of every specie."

"As you wish, My Lord." She bowed before disappearing again.

Okay, back to my train of thought, I will try to feed this thing to different animals and see what will happen. They could either be strengthened by mana or simply explode from it.

But for now, I should try to make more.

I looked back at the tree I was in before and noticed that some of its branches did not have any leaves while there's this one branch that is very green.

Hmmm, so the direction of mana stays on long after I leave the tree but does not produce a fruit? Interesting.

I entered the tree once again and tried to return the mana flow to what it was before. Which was as equally hard as concentrating it to one branch.

After a few minutes, the mana flow is back. I left the tree and saw how green leaves were already growing on its branches that I could swear were dead before.

Looking around, I started to decide on which tree to do it again, but it's hard. There are so many varieties and does it affect the type of fruit? Or the quality of the fruit?

… Well there's only one way to find out.

The tree I did last time looked like an oak tree but now, I want to try it on a taller tree. I swept my eyes around the lush green forest and finally saw one. It looks like a pine tree.

Going in the tree, it felt different from the other one, and I think the placements of the branches is what really makes the difference.

Then, I did what I did with the other tree, I selected a branch and redirected the flow of mana.

After a few seconds of repeatedly moaning in my head, there's finally a blue head-sized bead on the edge of the branch I selected. I opened my eyes and the fruit is of a really different color and shape as the last one.

Well, the last one was green and this one is blue… maybe it's not ripe yet? I should continue.

Then, a few minutes passed by. Iris arrived.

"Where are the insects?" I asked, noticing that she is not carrying everything.

"It is in my spacial ring, My Lord."

Surprised, I stopped moaning and redirecting the mana then imaginary looked at Iris.

"Spacial ring? What's that?."

"Well it is simply a storage." She casually replied, and afterwards, she raised her hands forward. Then, a huge bag came out.

It can store things without it being carried?! That's… really revolutional.

"Where did you get that?" I asked, and if trees had beating hearts, mine would be beating very rapidly.

"You gave it to me, My Lord." She answered, "You gift these to all your servants, My Lord, and we ever so deeply appreciate it."

I see, so I can assume that that thing is not very rare in this world then.

Eager to test out the fruits, I came out of the tree and picked one insect. The first insect I picked is basically a Hercules beetle but with violet spikes on their horns which are really suggestive that it is poisonous.

"What is this called?" I asked Iris while holding out the beetle.

"We only call them banelings, My Lord." She replied.

"Banelings?" I gently stroke the small body of the beetle, avoiding its long horns,"The species name?"

"No, My Lord, small insects who have not evolved yet."

"Evolved? Can you tell me more?"

"Well… it's a kind of Blessing from the World." She replied

"How is it different from my blessing?"

"Well, you're blessing, My Lord is through insight, but blessing through evolution is more common in primal creatures, that are incapable of understanding the world."

Hmmm, I vaguely understand, but I get the point.

I walk towards the fruit then placed the beetle on it, which it immediately takes a bite out of.

Right afterwards the beetle bit the fruit, vibrations emitted from the insect.

"WH-WHAT IS THIS?!" Iris exclaimed, stumbling backwards then falling to the ground.

A gentle breeze then started to surround us.

"Why?" I shouted, "What's the problem?!"

"T-the baneli —The insect, My Lord," She stuttered, "It's evolving!"

Oh crap, what have I done.
