Chapter 40: Chapter 40 : What happened, exactly?

IRENE POV:

"Antonio!" I had screamed after he vanished.

All it took was a few drops of his strange blood to mess up the ritual and take my son from me. My baby.

"Oh, goddess," I breathed.

We shouldn't have done this stupid ceremony. Or at least, I shouldn't have involved Ant. My dear sweet Antonio...I had just wanted Sheri back so bad...My bonded, that I was driven to temporary insanity. I endangered my son! And now he's gone!

Where did he go?!

Just then, the circle shined a bright and blinding gold light, as though the goddess was helping.

"Remember, The dead never stay dead," echoed around the room in a strange and etherial voice before I was blinded for a moment.

It felt like I was in a strange dimension; so dark, so cold, and then I was back.

And Sheri was with me.

"Oh, thank the goddess," I cried, cradling my bonded in my arms.

My love.

"W...what...did you DO?" She breathed, glaring daggers at me.

"I--"

"Who gave the blood sacrifice, Irene?!

"WHO?" She rushed, her breath coming faster and faster.

"Well, originally It was supposed to be my blood, Antonio's, and Alphard's, but the ritual went haywire after Ant--"

"Antonio gave his blood? ONLY his blood?"

"...?...Y..es?"

"Oh, no. nononononono. Goddess, no,"

"I know it's bad, he disappeared but we'll get him back soon--"

"No, you don't get it, Irene! These types of rituals always require something severe from the caster, and you've made it so Antonio is the one who will have to bear the costs of this damning ritual! Do you understand, Irene?! Our poor baby boy, oh goddess..."

"He-he'll be fine. He has to be fine..." I cried, huddling into Sheri's arms, listening to her mumbler over and over, "My poor baby boy...goddess protect him...please...my poor baby boy..."

What have I done?

ANTONIO POV:

So, it's not always dark here, or at least the...sky? Lightened considerably, all things considered. It is cold, though. Very cold.

I started moving once I was some semblance of light, hoping that I have just arrived...wherever I am in the middle of the night and am not actually trapped in some dark expansive cage forever.

I am seriously hoping that that light is from a rising sun...or moon, depending on where I am. The arctic is night for half the year, after all.

After a few hours of walking, I finally stumbled into somewhere...or the ruins of somewhere once were. Either way, it's shelter, and I'm bone tired after that (maybe) failed ritual and the exercise I don't do often.

I found a nice patch of an abandoned home, one that had a second story, and therefore a ceiling on a small part of the ruin, shielding me in case there is some acid rain or something. Horror stories, that's what Sheri and Irene raised me on.

I hope the ritual worked...and that she's alive again.

I scrounged around the few dozen broken and abandoned houses for a while, looking for perishables, or any food, drink, and clothing. I found a blanket and an old, ratty coat. Not a lot, but it'll have to do. The darkness was light now, shining the world in wonderfully blue moonlight. Definitely not my homeland.

I could still be on my planet, but I doubt it.

There were no aliens in that stupid otome game so that's something.

Maybe a different dimension.

Doesn't make it concrete sadly.

I slowly slid my sore body down onto the cold stone floor of what used to be a living room, sighing at my predicament.

First I lost drake, then my hair, (but I gained my original skin shade, so that's good) Sheri...then did a stupid ritual and landed in this dark land of the silent and possibly deadly.

I feel very unlucky as of late.

Oh well.

I'll debate with myself later today (tomorrow? No sun and the sudden lack of ability to tell time, I see a hard time with days and months in my future.), after a nap.

Sigh, I'm tired, goddess.

So tired.
