Chapter 2: Invitation (2)

As soon as the words 'yes', left Ryuen's mouth, a message continued to ring before him...

[Invitee, Ryuen Kakeru has accepted the invitation]

[Congratulations, on being a 3rd batch invitee]

[Assimilation process being carried out]

[1%...17%...34%..56%...72%...89%..100%]

[Assimilation complete]

[Interruption occurred during....proc...ess]

Ryuen feeling his body slowly changing.

The system had said something towards the end; however, he couldn't hear the last part of the message. It seemed like something was said however, it was not clear and pronounced like the words before.

'Something beginning with 'i' or something, I wonder what that was'

Ignoring the detail considering it irrelevant, Ryuen let it escape his mind.

As soon as the assimilation process was deemed complete, a bright white light had enveloped his body.

Soon the boy known as Ryuen, disappeared from the orphanage.

*

Desolate.

There was something unnatural about the endlessly white room that Ryuen found himself in. It was simple to describe the room as just white, yet that seemed an incomplete description.

There was a sense of eeriness that he couldn't neglect. For one thing, he couldn't spot a single person or any living organism at all. There was no sign of any objects or items such as a desk, chair, or anything.

'Shouldn't I be in Caldera? Why I am I in an all-white room then?'

Ryuen carefully analysed his surroundings, trying to find all the clues available to determine his scenario. Trying his best, he could spot nothing. Nothing in the room.

When he looked up white. To the sides white, between his feet white. It was an endless white void. No sky, no earth, nothing except him.

'Is this a dream then? I didn't expect this'

Realizing this, Ryuen rummaged his hand into his pocket in panic trying to get access towards his smartphone.

But it wasn't there.

Just as Ryuen was getting more and more confused a holographic message appeared before him...

[Identity confirmed. The registration of the user, Ryuen Kakeru has been completed.]

A robotic voice boomed across the room. It didn't seem to come from anywhere in particular, yet it held a divine presence that screamed, 'I must not be ignored'.

[Sender: High God K]

[Task]

[1: Go through the Hall Of Memories.]

[2: Remaining time, until trial begins- 00:05:45]

[Reward: Skill Accel Forward]

[Penalty: N/A]

The content was simple and precise, getting straight towards the point. Easy and simple to understand, yet hard to digest.

'What's this hall of memories, is this Caldera place really real or am I dreaming'

Ryuen slapped his own cheeks, hard. Very hard. In the end, his average looking face stung quite a lot, but slapping it had done the job. He felt pain. With this he was able to confirm one thing. This definitely wasn't a dream, by slapping himself and feeling visible pain he was able to reaffirm that this was indeed happening for real.

"…. Ouch, that hurt."

Rubbing his cheeks, he patiently waited for the trial to begin.

There was much he still didn't understand, however currently he was in a situation where he wouldn't get any information anyway. The best option for him was to wait.

The timer began to come down bit by bit. As it reduced, a displeasing energy began to surface in the room.

Ryuen's body began feeling weird.

While he thought to himself a palpable atmosphere began to rear itself into his thoughts.

This just didn't feel natural to him, it seemed out of place even for being transferred into a new world.

From what Darkon, the popular Caldera info forum, had said this never happened when you entered Caldera. It was quite odd in itself that he was transferred into this isolated room. According to the basic information he should've been sent to the assembly hall, however this was not the case.

Of course, the information that appeared on the Darkon forum website could've been incorrect. There was a possibility, however his instinctual feelings were telling him that this wasn't supposed to happen.

Waiting and waiting, he watched as the 5 minutes slowly went by.

Besides the constant loneliness born out of feeling like the last person in existence, it felt like he was isolated from the world... no the universe itself. It was like this tiny space that he found himself in was frozen in time. Separated from reality, a unique space in itself.

Given the time to himself, Ryuen began to slowly look back on his life.

To him life itself on earth was rough. It was tough his parents abandoning him from a young age, it was tough being bullied all through middle school to high school. It was tough living depressed in the world, but he had endured.

No matter how bad things went, he never gave up on life though. No matter the challenge or adversary he continued on in life like a rampaging bull. Perhaps, this was his one redeeming factor, his talent in the cold and harsh world.

On earth his image had already been built. A nothing, a trash of society. That is what he was deemed. Fairly enough he deserved that name.

He himself made no effort in life, he forcefully broke down important relations and connections in life according to his own actions. He continuously borrowed money from his girlfriend to fulfil his smoking and gambling habits. Continuously telling her he would change, lying straight through his teeth until she broke up with him.

He was scum, who treated no one with respect. He always wallowed in self-pity, spending his days in the orphanage reading nothing but dirty magazine's. Never trying to put in effort, Ryuen blamed his environment on the way he became. He so desperately wanted to change.

If only, if only I was given a chance. That Idea circled through his head plenty of times, endlessly tormenting him. But now right here was this chance, the chance that he was looking for,

Now he had a chance to start a fresh, a chance to make something of himself. He wasn't going to let this opportunity run out from his grasps.

"Hall of memories or whatever, I don't know what's going to happen, but I'll face it head on!", he shouted whilst a small smile escaped his lips.

The timer that ticked inside his head began its final countdown.
