Chapter 2: Status

James was currently located some 30 meters from his spaceship. The grips on his boots held him firmly to the surface of the asteroid. They made his 0-g situation more bearable. A few meters from him was a huge, cave-like hole.

"Waaat? The fuck happened to my surname? I had a regular English surname, what's with this Schwarzkeiser? That's like German. Schwarz plus Keiser? Black emperor? Cringe. Well, in the game no character ever had something like this. Is this something that happened cuz I crossed over? I can't even remember my original surname, so who cares now, I've got more important business to settle."

James' status was a very mediocre mercenary starting build. His stats were honestly in the lower end of the spectrum. Normally, a player would have at least one stat at 5. He had the basic Mercenray talent, [Unrestrained], which allowed him to use any weapon he wanted. The Energy was something like MP of the game. Instead of being used just for spells or active skills, however, it also gave status bonuses. Once depleted, the bonuses would cease.

Energy could only be trained, but every 5 WIS and INT stats provided a +0.5% and+1% training speed bonus respectively. In terms of ranks every next one required 5 times the Energy of the former rank. The first needed 10 Energy.

HP was given with 10:1 CON and 5:1 VIT. Stamina followed similarly with 5:1 STR, 5:1 AGI and 5:1 VIT. Stamina could, other than for all movement, also be used to replenish Energy with a 1 SP:10 Energy conversion rate.

DEX was related to control and hence had no impact on the Stamina and HP values.

Now onto skills. In the game, the player could learn all kinds of skills. Their occupation would, however, restrict their max level and some specialised skills or even subclasses. As an example, a Military Fleet commander would not be able to become a [Head cook] and receive the [Energy infused delicacy] skill.

Since James was a mercenary, he could learn anything, albeit he had to fulfil harsher requirements and also battle the increased XP costs. His one and only current skill [Intimidation], simply let him give a small debuff to his enemies whilst buffing himself. The skill relied completely on his CHA though and only worked if his own was higher than that of his opponents. If the difference was 1 point, he would get a +0.5 all stat buff, whilst his opponent got a -0.5 all stat debuff.

Back to James and the asteroid.

Standing in front of the cave, James put his hand into his pocket and took out the small [Home cube]. By putting it down a simple habitat would unfold from which he could continue his work.

[Do you wish to place down the [Home cube]?]

"Yes."

James threw and the cube and it quickly unfolded into a 10x5 metre tent-like habitat. A small protrusion extended towards him. It was the airlock that was currently useless since there was no air inside.

James opened the airlock and stepped inside. In the middle, he could see a small orb from which a large hologram screen was projected. On it, the acronym "HQ" was written.

"Open the summoning page!"

The hologram flickered, and new lines of text appeared.

SUMMONING Lv. 1

Grunt (Human (inferior)) (2/2) (refreshed every week)

Squad leader (Locked)

____

A grunt was the basic mercenary. They had neither discipline nor special knowledge. They only knew to follow the player. Their potential was limited, but they could specialise in pretty much anything. Unless special conditions were fulfilled, they could never get over Lv. 50.

"Summon two grunts!"

A white light flashed and two grown men appeared. They wore patchy spacesuits with clear visors.

"Hello Boss!"

"G'd day Boss."

The two grunts grunted their greetings. James was extremely happy that the summoning still worked just like in the game. The fact that he could make people out of nothing made him ecstatic. In the game, this function would cease in its usefulness as the reach of the player expanded, but was indispensable at the start.

"Welcome, follow me."

James turned around and led his new subordinates towards his spaceship. Once they arrived, he disabled the spaceships docking grip. Now with the ship floating freely, he ordered the grunts to move it to the habitat and connect them.

...

"vmmmmmmmmmmmmmm...."

The habitat was now pressurised and powered. The ship had been partially mended with the habitat to ease the transportation of various tools. Drills, hammers, a simple 3D printer and various another tools had been brought into the habitat.

It was time to begin a serious expansion of the base.

Sorry for the info dump. And if you have been reminded of TLM, well, that is where I got my inspiration from. The universe will however be much more realistic though(except for the summoning ofc).

PS: thank you, whoever put this into their collection, you made me want to write more, I hope you still like it
