Chapter 8: Chapter 8 - Academy days begin
Timeskip 2 Years
A lot has happened over the last two years for Kai and Naruto. Shinko relentlessly trained them both. Of course once the council got wind of Naruto receiving training they tried to put a stop to it.
However Shinko ignored them and The Third Hokage told them to leave it alone because they could not do anything that would push Kai out of the Village and under Shinko's protection they couldn't make him loyal to the village until he got to the academy.
Danzo was furious as his spies reported that despite people trying to attack him he was almost always by Kai's side and together they protected each other and if got serious Shinko would appear and scare the offenders away.
This led to Naruto having a very happy childhood as he had found an adopted family in those two and the glares from everyone were pushed aside by Kai's friendship and Shinko's warm care.
The two boys have turned into 5 year old monsters in their own right as they have close to perfect chakra control and both had massive Chakra reserves. Kai had low Jonin reserves and Naruto had even more and was at mid Jonin reserves.
Their young bodies have been perfectly nurtured under the best Jonin in the village and both have started to create their personal Taijutsu styles. Naruto continued to rely on incredibly unpredictable moves and insane fighting instincts. Kai on the other hand had created a much more vicious style that looked to end a fight in the quickest and most efficient way possible.
Naruto was a happy kid with a prankster streak in him that had affected Kai who enjoyed his pranks but refrained from taking part and only supported Naruto if he got in trouble.
The third Hokage had built a relationship with Naruto but not as much influence on him as he would like since Shinko had taken him into her care even if he didn't live with them.
Both boys had grown into strong, tall kids for their age with Kai standing at 3ft 11 inches and Naruto stood at 3ft 9 inches both tall for their age. They were not the skinny kind of kid expected from an orphan.
They were well built for their age courtesy of a strict and healthy diet forced on them by Shinko and she only allowed ramen once a week much to Naruto's dismay.
However he never complained he had found a loving older sister in Shinko and would follow almost everything she told him which infuriated Danzo and saddened Hiruzen who saw him as a grandchild but his influence was never allowed too much on Naruto as he was almost always with Shinko and Kai.
Finally the day had arrived that the boys were going to attend the Ninja academy. Both boys were incredibly excited and grew up as very extroverted children full of energy and happiness. "Come on Naruto-chan, Imouto said we have to leave for the academy now or we will be late" said a frustrated Kai trying to wake up Naruto at his apartment.
At the mention of the Academy Naruto jumped out of bed and ran to leave as he said "lets go Kai-chan we can't be late". However what greeted Naruto at the door was a firm Shinko who said "wash yourself up first I prepared breakfast and packed lunches for you both already".
Narturo embarrassingly rubbed the back of his head and quickly washed himself as Shinko and Kai cleaned his apartment muttering to themselves "He is such a slob". Naruto walked out to them after washing up and saw they had cleaned his apartment and was red in the face with embarrassment as he knew how tidy Shinko and Kai were.
Together the trio left for the academy and once they got their they saw all the students with their parents which left a sour feeling in Naruto and Kai which was quickly removed once they felt the warm embrace of Shinko envelope them both. Shinko smiled at her two little brothers she had grown to love and adore.
Shinko said "Don't forget I promised to teach you both some Ninjutsu once you reached the academy, today after class come back to my apartment with Otouto ok Naruto-chan?" Both boys grinned at each other as they were so excited to learn cool jutsu finally and nodded their heads.
Both boys started discussing all the cool ninjutsu they were going to learn animatedly and Shinko watched them warmly with a smile on her face. She hugged them both and left so that she could open the tea shop next to her apartment for the day. The boys conversation was interrupted by a chunin who told them civilians would be tested out here and the clan children were to head to another location for their test.
The Third Hokage arrived and started a speech about the will of fire which every child listened to in rapt attention with stars in their eyes. Aside from Kai who looked on at the Hokage with disgust on his face as he has never forgotten how the Hokage tried to take him away from his Imouto. Hiruzen saw his look and was disappointed as he regretted deeply trying to take him away from Shinko while he was in the room.
Naruto listened to every word he said with stars in his eyes but that was just because he was Hokage, he promised himself that when he became Hokage he would never try and take children away from their families as he had hear what happened to Kai and was saddened but refused to give up his dream of being Hokage.
He didn't understand why the Third Hokage was so mean to Kai but assumed he was just tired from protecting the village and was grumpy like Shinko-chan after a day in the tea shop when it got busy.
The children from the clans left to go to their destination while Naruto and Kai stayed where they were as they were orphans and civilians.
The first test all the children were lined up and had to go into a room with a chunin and answer some basic knowledge questions. When Kai was tested they asked was he loyal to the village and he simply replied "I am loyal to my loved ones in the Village and would do anything to protect them".
The examiner was taken aback he didn't just say yes like all the other kids but since he was an orphan who only had family in Konoha he put his thoughts aside.
Next they were challenged to a Taijutsu tournament between all the children to see how good they were. Usually civilian kids would have very little combat training and were put in the lower classes until they were taught Taijutsu and could move up according to their talent levels. However this time was very different than usual.
Kai was up first against a random civilian boy named Yuto. Before they performed the seal of confrontation the examiners had taught them Yuto asked "Why are you friends with the smelly Demon Fox? Kai's eyes flared in anger but he remained silent. They performed the seal of confrontation and Kai immediately jumped at him with a speed utterly unheard of in a civilian child.
Kai punched him in the gut bending him over before grabbing his head and kneeing him hard in the face breaking his nose before grabbing his left arm twisting it as he flipped him over his shoulder dislocating his arm before finishing the fight with a pile-driving knee to the already broken nose.
Yuto was in tears as he felt pain run through every part of his body. Kai whispered in his ear as he got to his feet "Call him a demon fox in my presence again and I promise the pain you feel now will be nothing after I am done with you"
Kai stood and performed the seal of reconciliation before heading back to his place with the other civilians. Everyone heard what he said about the demon fox and swore not to mention that name around Kai ever again. The boys looked on in fear while the girls had stars in their eyes at how cool he was.
The examiner angrily confronted Kai about being too excessive but Kai replied innocently "You said to display our best skills, it isn't my fault he was too weak to fight back." The examiner could only let it go but told him be more careful from now on.
Kai's personality seemed to do a 180 as he warmly started talking to the girls next to him with a smile on his face causing the girls to blush. Naruto was up next but his opponent didn't dare to taunt him as Kai would hear it and they performed the seal of confrontation. Once the fight began Naruto shocked everyone by ending the fight in seconds with an uppercut to the jaw and a spinning back kick to the chest sending the civilian flying out of the ring from his powerful blows.
The girls had stars in their eyes as thoughts about him being the demon fox were forgotten when they saw his smile after he performed the seal of reconciliation. Instead what was running through their minds was how cool he looked during the fight.
The rest of the fights continued in a similar fashion as Kai and Naruto beat everyone who came against them leaving the Chunin in shock at their skill levels. Finally the last fight was next. It would be Kai vs Naruto. Everyone eagerly awaited the fight as all the girls assumed their fan club positions chanting for both Kai and Naruto, each side trying to be louder than the other.
The two boys met in the arena with smiles on their faces as they performed the seal of confrontation. "I am looking forward to another win for me Naru-chan said Kai. A tick mark appeared on Naruto's forehead at the nickname as Shinko always called him that when she wanted to embarrass him. "It wont be that easy this time will be my win Kai-chan" he said.
