Chapter 59: Valencia Island

Ashlyn and the gang soon reached Valencia Island.

Misty looked outside the blimp's window, "Wow, looks like a tropical island."

"Well it did say in the brochure that the Orange Islands are a lot of islands." Brock commented.

The blimp soon landed on the ground, and Ashlyn and the gang got off the blimp. Then they started walking down a path.

"Say Ashlyn, how do we get to Prof Ivy's lab?" Misty asked.

"I'm afraid I don't know," Ashlyn replied, "We need to ask someone."

Tesla spotted something and points to it, "Raichu, rai! (Ashlyn, look)!"

"Hm?" Ashlyn looked in the direction where Tesla was pointing at and spotted a Pokémon Center, "Maybe we can ask the Nurse Joy there for directions."

At hearing the woman's name, Brock took off, "I'm coming, Nurse Joy!"

Ashlyn and Volkner sighed, "Should have known he would do that."

=========================================================

As expected, Brock went into full on Nurse Joy mode, prompting Misty to yank him by the ear and drag him as far away from her as possible.

"Um excuse me, Nurse Joy, could please tell us the way to Prof. Ivy's lab?" Ashlyn asked.

"Oh it's very easy. You go straight out of the Pokémon Centre," Nurse Joy pointed forward, "take the first left and it's the big white building at the end of Bayview road."

"Thank you." Ashlyn said.

The gang left the Pokémon Centre and thanks to Nurse Joy's directions, they found the whole building.

"Here we are." Ashlyn said, knocking on the door but got no answer.

"Maybe no one's home?" Misty guessed.

"Hello? Is anyone home?" Ashlyn called out.

Suddenly, the door opens and they are met with three girls, all who were wearing round glasses.

"Welcome, who might you all be?!" The three spoke in unison.

Blinking a couple of times, Ashlyn slowly responded, "Um, we're here to see Professor Ivy. Who are you three?"

"I'm Charity." The girl with pink shirt said.

"I'm Faith." The girl with green shirt said.

"And I'm Hope." The girl with orange shirt said.

"And we're Professor Ivy's assistants!" They ended together.

"I see. Where can we find Prof. Ivy?" Ashlyn asked.

"If you want the Prof.—" Hope answered.

"—She's at the bay—" Charity responded.

"—Looking after the Pokémon." Faith finished.

"We'll take you to her right now!" They said in unison.

=========================================================

The three girls let them inside, where they lead them to the beach. What instantly caught their attention when they got there the first thing they saw was a Gyarados coming out of the sea. Misty was about to freak out until they saw a woman petting the water Pokémon.

"I think you're all better and stronger every still day." The woman smiled as the Pokémon gives her a low growl in approval. The woman had shoulder length purple hair, she was in the sea water, swimming with the Gyarados, a Cloyster and a Poliwhirl as well.

Her action had everyone stunned and amazed.

"She's the mermaid of the deep blue sea who has stolen my heart!" Brock blushed.

"Professor!" Hope called out.

"Four friends of Prof. Oak are here," Faith continued.

"To see ya!" Charity ended.

The woman looked at the shore and smiled, "Ha, ahh."

The gang watched as the woman rode on Gyarados, as the Pokémon headed towards the shore.

The woman jumped off the atrocious Pokémon and Hope threw the woman a lab coat, she grabbed the lab coat and wore it before landing on the ground.

"Please to meet you." The woman smiled, "I'm Professor Ivy."

The gang introduced themselves to the Professor.

"Pleasure to meet the winner of the Indigo Plateau Conference." Professor Ivy smiled.

Ashlyn nodded. "Professor Oak said that you had something for him." She spoke up.

"Yes I do. Please, follow me." Professor Ivy said.

=========================================================

Professor Ivy led the gang back to her lab and in the corner of the room there laid a Pokéball on the transporter.

"Well, there's the Pokéball." Prof. Ivy said.

The gang stared at the unusual Pokéball for a while.

"This has an unusual color to it." Ashlyn commented.

"Raichu." Tesla nodded, from the top of Ashlyn's head.

"I've never seen one like this before." Misty said.

"Why is it gold and silver?" Brock asked.

"We haven't been able to discover the reason for that or anything else about the Pokéball, I'm afraid." Professor Ivy answered.

Ashlyn looked closer at the Pokéball, seeing two engraved letter on it, "G.S. Huh?" She blinked.

"So you notice. Yes, if you look closely enough you can see two letters on it, saying 'G.S.' So we decided to call it GS Ball." Professor Ivy explained.

"We heard that you tried to transport." Brock stated.

"True. Would you demonstrate, please Hope." Professor Ivy said to one of her assistant.

Hope nodded and pushed the button on the transport machine and the transporter was on and ready to transport the GS Ball but... It didn't work.

The GS Ball didn't transport at all, it reminded in the same place.

"Naturally we tried to open it." Professor Ivy started.

"Uh huh." The three triplets nodded.

"We've tried; Buzzsaw, hammers, crowbar, hacksaw, power drills and lasers." Professor Ivy went through the number of gadgets they have used.

Ashlyn sweat-dropped at the number of equipment they used, "So you tried to pry it open with tools?" That just goes to show how desperate they were to find out what was inside.

Volkner sweat-dropped, "It's surprising that the GS ball hasn't been destroyed by all those tools."

"I agree." Brock nodded.

"We tried everything but this Pokéball is a stump." Professor Ivy stated.

"Uh huh." The triplets assistant nodded.

Ashlyn looked back at the GS Ball, she had a strange feeling that a powerful Pokémon might be trapped in the GS ball. From what she had heard in her previous life, it was said that a Celebi was trapped inside. She felt sorry for the Pokémon in that Pokéball.

Professor Ivy picked up the GS Ball, "I wish, I could uncover the secret of this Pokéball myself but if anyone could solve this mystery, it's your friend Professor Oak can." She said.

"Huh?" Ashlyn blinked as the GS Ball was in front of her.

"I'm entrusting this to you, Ashlyn." Professor Ivy handed the GS Ball to Ashlyn, "Make sure you get to him safely."

"Of course." Ashlyn took the GS Ball and place it inside her backpack, safely and secure away.

========================================================

With the GS ball placed safely in Ashlyn's backpack, the gang are led outside by Professor Ivy, who shows them her outdoor environment. It was kind of like Professor Oak's outdoor environment, only this one was very much different.

Misty was looking around in awe before sniffing the air, "That smells nice, like flowers." As soon as she said that, a Vileplume comes out from the bushes, startling her, "Oh, its just a Vileplume."

Ashlyn pulled out her phone and scanned the Pokémon.

[Vileplume, the Flower Pokémon. The evolved form of Oddish. Using the largest flower petals in the world, it spreads large clouds of pollen that cause allergic reactions.]

Ashlyn noticed something about the Vileplume, "Hey, I could be wrong, but this Vileplume has different colored petals."

"You're right, it does." Brock agreed, observing the petals on the Vileplume, "I wonder why that is."

Luckily, Professor Ivy explained the reason why to them, "That's because I've bred and raised all of the Pokémon here," as she said this, her assistants bring out some Pokémon food on a cart, "They form an invaluable part of my research into the effect of the tropical climate's effects on Pokémon."

"I see, so that explains why this Vileplume's petals are different colors." Ashlyn said.

"Raichu. (It sounds fascinating)." Tesla said.

"It's time for dinner!" Charity and Hope wheeled in a cart of Pokémon food.

"Hey, guess you make the food yourself?" Brock said.

"Yes, we created recipes for each type of Pokémon." Professor Ivy said.

One by one, Pokémon that lived here came out; a Raticate with dark brown fur, a Nidoran couple with darker version color of the normal color, two red Paras and a Weepinbell with a golden tan body.

"Interesting. All these Pokémon colors are different, must be the climate in the Orange Islands." Ashlyn said.

Professor Ivy smiled, "That's correct. The tropical climates of this island and other Orange Islands are different from the climates in Kanto." She began to explain, "Naturally the different environment creates differences in the Pokémon that we've raised here. I'm now collecting data and studying how environment causes variation in all our Pokémon."

"Professor Ivy look." Hope pointed to a Butterfree that was holding onto a tree branch.

"What is it?" Ivy questioned.

"Free... Free..." Butterfree said and this Butterfree was different as well, it has beige colored wings with a red spot on it.

"This Butterfree hasn't eaten anything in anything in days, despite us using different combinations with its Pokémon food." Hope explained.

"Hmmm, that's not good." Professor Ivy hummed, "I wonder what's wrong?"

Brock took a look at the food, he sniffed it and then taken a bit and ate it.

"Eh?" Everyone looked at the Breeder in shock.

Brock was munching on the Pokémon food made for Butterfree, he swallowed it, "Ah, I see the problem." He said and he got some sweet berries out from his rucksack, crushed them in a bowl and then sprinkled them on top of Butterfree's food.

"Free! Freeeee!" Butterfree antenna's perked up and it immediately flew down to the food, it eat it quickly.

"Oh!" Professor Ivy and the three assistants were amazed.

"That's amazing. What did you put on the food?" Professor Ivy asked.

"Sweet flavor are Butterfree's taste." Ashlyn said, simply.

"That's right. I crushed some sweet berries. Some Bug Pokémon, like Butterfree like their food sweet and your food didn't have that much sweetness on it, which is why the Butterfree refuse to eat it." Brock explained.

"Oh, I'm embarrassed to call myself a researcher when you're the one who seems to know a lot about Pokémon feeding habits." Professor Ivy said.

"Well Brock knows a lot about Pokémon because he wants to become the world's Greatest Breeder and Doctor." Ashlyn stated.

"A breeder, huh?" Ivy asked.

Then Ivy's assistants began begging Brock to teach them about making better Pokémon food.

=========================================================

Later that day, Professor Ivy invited the gang to her house, but when they arrived at the house... Let's just say the house was a complete pigsty.

There was a pile of dirty dishes in the sink, a lot of rubbish to be thrown away, boxes filled with books and papers, floors that needed to be mopped and a lot of clothes needed to be washed.

The gang sweat dropped at the sight of the place.

"Nice place." Misty said.

"You can't even see the floor." Ashlyn commented.

"How can you live like this?" Volkner asked.

"We just so wrapped up in our Pokémon Research that we stopped cleaning the house and started calling it." Professor Ivy smiled, admitting.

"Our little dump!" The three triplets said.

Ashlyn, Tesla, Volkner, and Misty sweat-dropped.

Ashlyn heard Brock beside her and saw that he was trembling and moaning, "Brock, you okay?"

"Floors to swept! Clothes to be washed! Cooking, mopping, polishing, cleaning!" Brock yelled. Then he put on an apron, grabbed a green sponge, and a vacuum, "This is just like home! Leave it to Super Brock!" He exclaimed and began to tidying up the house.

Everyone watched as Brock was doing an amazing, spectacular job cleaning, washing and cooking.

"Brock is a great cleaner." Professor Ivy said.

"Polisher." Hope added.

"Vacuum." Faith added.

"Duster." Charity added.

"He's a good cook." Misty said.

"And he works for free." Volkner finished.

"Well Brock has lots of siblings, so cooking and cleaning are his specialty." Ashlyn pointed out.

Volkner nodded, "True."

After all of the cleaning was done, Prof. Ivy and her assistants thanked Brock and began chowing down.

"The Pokémon eat quieter than they do." Ashlyn whispered, with a sweat-drop on her forehead, to Volkner and Misty who also sweat-dropped.

Volker and Misty nodded, "Yeah."

Ashlyn noticed a spark in Brock's expression. She knew that Brock wasn't go to leave with them tomorrow.

=========================================================

It was later that night, Brock had told Ashlyn that he wanted to stay with Prof. Ivy and her assistants. Ashlyn said that she was okay with it because he could learn a lot from Prof. Ivy and she could learn from him as well. Not to mention that he could help them with the cleaning and cooking. Brock thanked her for letting him feel at ease with his decision.

A few moments later, the others woke when they heard that Prof. Ivy was at the Pokémon after getting attack by the Vileplume's pollen while saving a Raticate. Nurse Joy was able to make them feel better.

"Do be careful next time." Nurse Joy told the Professor. "Vileplume poisonous pollens are highly dangerous."

"How is the Raticate?" Professor Ivy asked.

Nurse Joy smiled, "Its just fine because you got it out of the pollen fast, so it okay now." She replied.

Professor Ivy sighs in relief, "Thank you and you too Brock." She said.

Brock, Charity, Faith and Hope were relieved that Professor Ivy was okay.

=========================================================

It was the next morning and the gang was about to head out.

"Well, we gotta go, Professor." Ashlyn said.

"Come and visit, any time." Prof. Ivy smiled.

"Wait a minute, where's Brock?" Misty questioned.

"I didn't see him when I got up." Volkner said.

Suddenly Onix rushed by them with planks of wood in his mouth. Then Brock and Graveler ran past them with planks of wood.

"Let's move it guys!" Brock yelled.

The gang blinked.

They followed Prof. Ivy and her assistants outside and saw Brock fixing the roof.

"It seems like Brock wants to stay here with us." Prof. Ivy said.

This came as a shock to the others, but not Ashlyn.

Brock got down from the roof to explain, "I've talked about it with Ashlyn last night and Professor Ivy this morning. Staying here will allow me to learn more about Pokémon."

The gang understood, after all Brock does want to become a Great Pokémon Doctor.

"We'll meet each other again. Till next time." Brock said.

Volkner nodded, "Till then."

They shook hands.

"Good luck Brock." Ashlyn gave the Breeder a goodbye hug. Then Misty gave him one too.

"Good luck with the Orange League, Ashlyn." Brock said to Ashlyn.

"Thanks." Ashlyn said.

"Rai Raichu!" Tesla smiled.

"Togephriii!" Togepi smiled.

Brock waved at his friends, "Bye! And make sure you don't forget about me!"

"Goodbye!" The gang waved back.

The gang left Professor Ivy's lab, leaving Brock behind as well.

=========================================================

"It sure is going to be different without Brock around." Misty admitted.

Ashlyn nodded, "Yeah, at least this is going to help him become a Pokémon Doctor." She said.

"So what should we do now?" Misty asked.

"I need to sign up for the Orange League before I can start getting the badges." Ashlyn replied. "To do that, we need to go to Tangelo Island."

"So, back to the blimp?" Volkner asked.

"Yep." Ashlyn replied.

So the gang got back to the airport and took a blimp ride to Tangelo Island.

=========================================================

And so saying goodbye to their long time friend Brock, the gang now head to Tangelo Island, where Ashlyn can register for the Orange League.
