Chapter 2: Ares, earth, and the Technique

"Is this death?" Ares thought. He was surrounded by endless darkness and he was just sort of floating there for what seemed to be forever. "This kind of sucks if this is how it is forever." he thought. Just as that thought passed, a light appeared in the distance and rapidly approached him. "What is that light?". He didn't get to think that for long as the light quickly over took him. He was blinded and quickly closed his eyes. Soon, he heard unfamiliar voices and some thing shaking him. "Ares. Ares. Wake the hell up man. Do you remember what today is? We are going to get the new VR capsules today, the new gen of them that will change the way we play VR games. Come on. Hurry the hell up and wake." the voice said close to him. Ares opened his eyes. It was bright so he had to squint a bit to adjust to the light. "What? I'm alive" he muttered. The voice heard him. "HAHA! I'm surprised too. After the night you had last night, getting super wasted, I thought you would have died for sure! Now come one. We need to get to the store quickly. The capsules will be released in an hour and we need to get in line for it.". Finally adjusting to the light, Ares finally opened his eyes all the way to see where he was at and who was talking. Realizing he was laying down on something soft, he quickly sat up and looked around. He was in a medium sized room with white walls and a white ceiling. He was laying in a king sized bed and next to it was a desk with an ACER gaming laptop on it that was opened but off. There were a couple of book shelves in other corners of the room that only had a few books on them. The walls had a few posters that featured rock bands such as three days grace and ACDC. As he was looking around, memories started flowing through his head fast enough to start giving him a headache. He started sorting through them so he can adjust to what's going on. His soul was transferred across space an time as he died and was put into the body of a 19 year old whose name was also Ares. He was a tall kid, around 6 foot 3 with a skinny, non-muscular frame and pale white skin. he had short black hair that was a mess usually and blue eyes. He was on a planet called Earth and it was the year 2089 and technology started to really boom. That Ares apparently died after getting super wasted last night. He didn't have a job, but he earned money from playing VR games. He didn't make much but he was trying to become a pro-player so he could earn more. He loved VR games and when news was released about an upcoming VR game that would revolutionize the game world, he was ecstatic. He worked overtime to make enough money prior to release so he could buy it on release day. Last night, he finally earned the last bit of money to buy it, just in time for release. He decided to celebrate by getting super drunk. Unfortunately, the poor dude died which allowed his soul to enter. Finally, after a few minutes, he adjusted to the memories and his and the old Ares' memories merged together. When that was done, he realized, there was an extra memory. One that didn't belong to either of them. He focused on it. He let out a gasp of shock. It was a cultivation technique, like the ones he used to practice in his other life. However, this is one he didn't practice but was super godly. "Wait...where did this come from? And can I practice it here on earth? People here don't cultivate energy according this guys knowledge. Hmm. I can look at it and see what it is and see if I can. If I am able to, then playing this game would be amazing and If these memories are correct I would be super strong in game as the new game has two options. One, when you start the game you choose a starting profession such as a warrior, mage, or hunter. The second one is usually picked by super athletes and fighters. The capsule and game would scan your body and determine your game abilities, stats, and profession based on the status of your real body. The people who would do this are usually professional gamers and are going to be way stronger than those who chose the first option. The second option would create many unique professions giving the players and the game a lot of different play styles. If this technique didn't exist, he would have to choose the first option or delay playing the game for a bit as his body was weak and fragile at the moment. clearing his head of these thoughts for now, he focused on this technique. it was called Elemental Master. When you cultivated it, your body would gain the unique properties of them and would be able to use them as well. For example if you cultivated the fire element, your attacks would be stronger and contain a hot, burning affect. You would also be able to control fire, and conjure flames from your body. There were many elements that could be cultivated such as fire, earth, lightning, water, light, darkness, light, and so on. The best part of the technique was that it allowed one to cultivate all the elements and eventually fuse them for stronger attacks and skills. Each element could be cultivated to higher stages. There were 5 major ones called basic, advanced, epic, legendary, and godly. Each one was divided into 10 smaller stages. The higher the rank of the element, the stronger it is. What is even better is that when you cultivated at least 2 elements to rank 1 of the basic level, you gain the elemental master physique, where your body will go through an evolution and improve in every aspect. It was truly a god tier technique. Ares decided he was going to start to try cultivating it after he bought the VR capsule as their would still be a couple days before the game would go live. With that decision he changed direction and looked at the other young man in his room. It was his best friend since grade school, Bryan. He was 18 and a gaming nerd as well with the same aspiration, becoming a pro-game player. The two of them lived together in a small two bedroom apartment that they could barely afford. He had long brown hair to his shoulders, brown eyes, and a chubby build. He wore round glasses that looked like the ones from Harry Potter. He was really outgoing and a social butterfly unlike Ares who was reserved and a loner. "Hey buddy? You there? You been spacing out for a couple minutes. Are you sure you are not a ghost? Bryan asked jokingly. Ares just lightly punched his shoulder and said "Let me get dressed and then let's go get that VR capsule.".
