Chapter 11: Worth Woods-Sea

Once all the tests required of him were complete, he had to wait around the guild hall for about an hour for the results.

When Jura came back out of the closed off room he had his signature smile on his face.

"I take it I passed?!" Alex asked with a smile of his own.

"With flying colors!" Jura answered back.

"As a form of apology for attacking you, would you allow me to treat you to lunch?" Jura asked with a smile, he wanted to know more about the strange young wizard in front of him.

"There isn't any apology needed, you were right to be cautious" Alex replied, "However, I'll not say no to a free meal!"

"Perfect! Follow me, I know a nice little place within walking distance" said Jura.

True to his word, the restaurant was close by and man was it good!

He has never eaten something so delicious in either lives.

He made a mental note to learn more about cooking in this world.

During lunch Alex and Jura had casual conversation, mostly about magic in general.

The big guy was shocked at all the different kinds of magic Alex could use and even asked him to join his guild.

He politely refused of course, he didn't have anything against Lamia Scale, but he was already set on trying Fairy Tail first.

Jura understood and didn't press the issue, he did tell Alex to come find him if he was ever in the area though.

He seemed to have taken a liking to the young Slayer wizard and also probably wanted to learn more about his many magics.

Alex easily agreed, why wouldn't he? Jura was a good man and had a very likable character.

Thanking him for the meal and asking directions to the nearest market place, Alex and Jura parted ways.

Heading to the location Jura gave him, Alex was excited to get his supplies and leave this place.

Leaving town like a regular person, Alex made sure to not deploy his wings till he was well out of sight of the gates.

He really didn't want someone panicking and "crying wolf" about him being a real Demon again.

"How troublesome, I should look into flight magic that doesnt involve my wings. Need something to use in towns and around people" Alex mumbled under his breath.

Jumping up into the sky he stared heading North-west towards the Worth Woods-Sea again.

To make up for lost time, he decided to push himself and flew at his max speed.

He still wasn't able to keep his max speed up for long, but he figured he could use it as training his body.

He also made great time even having to slow down to a glide to replenish his energies.

When he seen the massive and dense forest come into full view, he was in awe.

He had to just stop and stare for a bit to take it all in. Trees spread out as far as the eye could see.

He was sure if it wasn't for the massive mountain range to the north, it might actually feel endless.

After having appreciated one of the wonders of nature for a good 5-10 minutes , he finally dropped down below the treetops to find a place to camp.

It only took about half hour of flying between the trees for him to spot a small cave opening.

However, this cave was not exactly vacant.

'Hmmmm, looks like I also found my dinner for the night' Alex thought with a smile.

The young forest bear did not even have a chance to wake up before it was forcefully evicted from his home.

Smashing though a couple trees, It roared in pain and indignation.

It's roars quickly turned to panic as it was set ablaze.

The poor creature didn't even get a proper look at its assailant before its life was snuffed out.

After a very filling meal, Alex sat down on his new bearskin rug.

It still smelled slightly of burned hair, but he had cleaned it good enough for his purposes with water and wind magic.

He wanted to check his progress and then look into this "aura" that Jura had mentioned.

'I should probably get in the habit of checking my progress every night, it always boosts my Will to train harder seeing it in numerical form.' Alex thought.

"But since the screen doesn't do anything else but that, it's very easy to forget about" he mumbled aloud.

Name: Alexander Black

Age: 18

Class: Fire Demon Slayer

Mage Rank: A+

Warrior Rank: A

Skills: {Metamorphosis} (take-over magic)(lvl:26)

{Inventory} (re-quip magic) (lvl:15)

{Fel-Fire} (lvl:13)

{Mana Manipulation} (lvl:15)

{Stealth} (lvl:25)

{Rapid Regeneration} (lvl:10)

"{Metamorphosis} Jumped right up there! I wonder why it didn't hit a "bottleneck" at lvl:25 like {Stealth} did?" Alex asked the status screen.

Getting no reply like he knew he would, he continues to browse though his progress.

The rest of it made sense to him, slight improvement in {Mana Manipulation} and {Inventory}.

He didn't use {Fel-Fire} much so he was not shocked about its lack of improvement.

{Rapid Regeneration} still required him to get hurt to level and he wasn't going to start mutilating himself just for the sake of skill progress.

Finished with his status screen, Alex turned his thoughts inward.

He couldn't feel his own Aura, so he wasn't exactly sure how to manipulate it so he could suppress and release it at will.

He figured his best bet will be to go through his {Stealth} skill with a fine toothed comb.

The key to aura control had to be there, the skill itself had the ability to suppress and even remove his entire presence.

He wanted to isolate the part of {Stealth) that controlled the aura, if he could do that then he could practice it just like when he was training his wings.

He would be able to keep it active all the time without activating the skill fully.

He wasn't sure if there was away to use aura offensively, or even if it had a real purpose aside from announcing your strength to those with enough knowledge to read it.

If it didn't have any other uses, he would simply keep it off. It would be very troublesome if his "prey" always ran away before he could have some fun.

It took him a while of combing through the implanted memories that came with the skill until he came to a part that made no sense.

Figuring it had to be the part that deals with aura as it was the last, and only, part of the skill that didn't make at least some sense to him.

Upon Isolating that part of the skill, he activated {Stealth} while willing only that part to activate.

He was immediately disappointed with the result.

He could not tell at all if it worked, he still could not feel his own aura after all.

He definitely felt a small part of his mana being used, but that was all he currently had to go off.

Deciding to just leave the skill on and go to bed, he pulled out a few more furs and his sleeping bag.

(A/N. Basically for an additional mana cost upfront he can make some of his active skills 'overtime' effects so he doesnt have to be conscious to keep it active, otherwise {Stealth} couldn't be kept on during sleep.)

Waking up with a start for the first time in this life, Alex looked around cautiously.

'What the hell woke me up?!' He thought, trying to get his heart rate down.

'Why is my heart beating so fast? What is this feeling?' He thought in a panic, still looking around.

Deciding he better go check outside as he could slightly hear some rustling of leaves a ways in front of his cave.

When he got to the cave entrance he noticed the noise coming from the area where he burned the remainder of the bear corpse.

Just sitting and waiting at the cave entrance, Alex started thinking.

'Now that I am more awake that feeling has almost completely went away, I wonder if that is my instincts acting up.

Since I was sleeping and vulnerable, they went into high gear.

Now that I'm awake and can handle the problem they go quiet. Neat!'.

After coming up with a valid reason, he again focused to the noise and the presence he could now detect.

It was getting closer, and it smelled very familiar.

Now that he knew what was coming for him, Alex quickly retrieved his Glaives from his {Inventory} and entered full {Stealth}.

Moving quickly to the side to get in behind the creature, Alex didn't hesitate to drive the big blades directly into the big bears spine.

Killing it almost instantly.

"Hmm, Musta come back from a hunt" Alex said as he set about skinning the thing.

It was easily double the weight of the bear he found in the cave.

'All I need now is a baby one and I would have a full set' Alex thought darkly as he cleaned the new pelt.

Shaking off his thoughts of having a matching set of bearskin rugs, Alex started wondering about a few random things.

He wondered why he had never been attacked in his other cave, he had lived there for a couple weeks before he even put a door on the place.

But not once has he even seen any animals within 1km of it.

Now that he thought about it, that by itself was strange.

He couldn't even remember seeing birds or rodents in his area.

Then realization hit him like a train.

"AURA! They can sense my aura" he exclaimed loudly into the darkness.

'Jura said my aura was incredibly dangerous and even had a slightly sinister vibe to it, its no wonder they would stay far away.

Some, if not all, animals have a natural preservation instinct that would let them know full well when something dangerous was near' he mused internally.

"If I am going to keep training my aura control, then I'm going to have to take a few extra safety precautions for where I choose to sleep" He said aloud as he was walking back to the cave.

After all, nobody wants to be woken up by some animal or monster chewing on them.
