Chapter 1: Murder In Chiang Mai

One day there was a girl named Kamlai, she was an orphaned girl. She dreamed to be a doctor. But when she said that she wanted to be a doctor but all the other orphan kids laughed at her. They said that her dreams will not come true. But one day a young lady came to visit the orphanage named Chaloem Chai. All her friends call her Chai. She heard what that little girl said. Chai said, "Hey little girl what's your name?" and Kamlai said, "My name is Kamlai," Chai said, "What do you want to be when you grow up?" Kamlai said," I want to be a doctor when I grow up," Chai said, "you can be a doctor you know, you just have to study hard". Then one of the caretakers at the orphanage ''Hansa" saw Chai and said "Chai?! What are you doing here? When did you even come back? But look at you now, you're all grown up. What are you working as now?" Chai said "I am just here to visit the kids. I just came back yesterday. I am a forensic doctor now." the caretaker answered "Wow your dreams did come through but how did you remember this place; you have not been here for 5 years" Chai said "I appeared to be passing this area so I wanted to make a short stop". The caretaker said "Oh ok, it's been five years why don't you go say hi to the others" Chai said "sure, let's go" while Chai was walking down the hallways of the orphanage, she heard crying's of a girl. She asked her friend (the caretaker) did she hear that, her friend said "yeah" and she said she wanted to check it out, her friend said "I think that is not a good idea" but Chai replied "maybe one of the kids are being bullied, she also might be hurt" and the caretaker said "ok, let's go" and they went to check out the sound. Chai's friend said, "I think I heard the sound coming from that room". So, they went into that room and saw a body hanging in that room and Chai called the cops while her friend cried because that girl was always bullied by one of the kids there and she was very close to her, that girl was also the girl that talked to Chai when she came in. She was also quite sad. After the cops came, they identify the body of the kid and her name was Kamlai, she is a 10-year-old kid. She had several bruises on her arms, legs, and ribs area. Chai was the doctor on the case, she examined the body of the victim, she found out that the body had a needlestick injury on her left arm. After that, Chai cleaned the body. Before that, she took some samples of the victim's blood and gave them to the lab. Then the next day result of the blood test came out then she found out that the body had a high amount of Heroin. She was shocked about the result and she took some pictures of the result then she gave it to the cops and said this is not a suicide but it was a murder. While she was looking at the picture of the result. She questioned herself "Where would someone get this much heroin and why would they want to kill this young girl?". She went to the crime scene and saw cops and a detective Madee. Her friend Hansa (caretaker) asked why did the cops put police tape on that area. Hansa was confused because it was a suicide. Chai brought her to the couch that was in the hallway and said "I am sorry to tell you that she didn't actually kill herself but she was murdered. So, this is a crime scene". Hansa was so surprised and she burst into tears. Chai was so determined to find the murderer. After all, she would do anything to help this kid because she knew this kid before she even came to the orphanage. So, Chai said that she wanted to help the cops. Even though the cops decline her offer but the detective permitted her to help on this case. She started to ask some questions to the caretakers and kids that were close to the victim and she started to question her friend Hansa. She asked Hansa "When did you last talk to her" Hansa answered "Today while having breakfast with her" Chai said "where did she go after breakfast," Hansa said "she went to go play with her friends Kris and Sukhon," Chai said "Did she said where did she go and play with Kris and Sukhon? Hansa answered "yes, she said that they were going to play at the playground at the front," Chai said "ok, thank you very much." Chai asked "Hansa do you know were Kris and Sukhon are now?" Hansa said "yes, they might be in the sweeping in the hallways". Sukhon and Kris are one of the senior orphans there. While she was walking in the hallways, she saw Kris and Sukhon. They went to Chai and Kris asked "what is going on, why is there forensics and cops coming here and where is Kamlai. We did not saw her today" Chai sighs and said "The forensics are here because there is a crime scene in one of the rooms here and Kamlai was involved in the scene," and then Sukhon Cuts her talking saying "what Kamlai was involved?! What happened to her" (while she grabs and pulls Chai's shirt closer to her face) Chai was surprised by Sukhon's strength but she continues and says (clears throat) "I am sorry to say this but this time Kamlai was the victim in this case. She was murdered yesterday." Then Sukhon let Chai's shirt go and dropped to the ground on her knees and cried. Then Chai started by questioning Kris. She said "umm Kris I might have to question you first". Kris said "sure". Chai said "ok, when was the last time you saw Kamlai yesterday?" Kris said "I saw her at the kitchen helping Ms. Hansa with washing the dishes" and Chai said "then where else did you saw or talked to her?". Kris took some time to think and said, "I think I last talked to her at the library. I saw her searching for a book so I helped her but she was acting quite weird that time. It looks like she was hurrying somewhere". There a bit of silence in between them, then Chai said "thank you for your cooperation". Then Kris answered "No problem". Chai then searches for the detective. She told the detective that Kamlai acted quite weird before she was killed. The detective then said "really, where did you get this information from?" Chai said "I got it from one of Kamlai's friend Kris". The detective ordered the cops to get Kris and bring him to the police station. Chai said "Detective, you don't need to bring him in you know, you can just question him there" the detective replied "firstly don't call me detective calls me Madee and secondly he gave you the information, he is also counted as a suspect because he saw her two times in that same day" Chai said "in one condition Madee, don't pull him in here harshly. If he doesn't want to come then let me talk to him" Detective Madee said "ok, deal" and from that day Chai did not really like the detective.
