Chapter 4: Suspicion deepened

The male cousins decided to follow Jax and his strong reasoning to search out the White family mansion. He was sure that he could find something which could prove if he was involved or not. Searching the White family's mansion might give some clues.

Julia was giving instructions to the servants how they should take care of the mansion and the new Lord. After that brutal incident everyone in the mansion was sad but alert. She was also checking and investigating all the servants. Julia was there to check all unusual things around might investigating servants give some clues.

Questioning them could give some clue about the earlier days incidents and if Lord Alastair or lady Alastair were facing something really troublesome. Most of the servants were working for this mansion from decades and they were loyal, the newer ones were afraid to go against the house Lord anyway.

Julia decided to ask the slaves. The slaves were standing in a row; most of them were in good condition because the Alastair family never mistreated their servants or slaves. Only a girl who seemed oblivious of her surroundings picked her curiosity. Julia never saw this girl in the Alastair mansion before.

"Who were you and when were you selected as a slave?"Julia questioned Lala who looked pitiable in all other slaves. Julia knew very well that slaves were kept for heavy and tough jobs and considering how Alastair's family was kind-hearted why would they select a girl for the tough jobs of fetching water for the mansion or other similar duties?

She heard the question but did not reply, instead kept looking at the ground. She was a slave of her love not someone else. She decided to not speak to anyone other than Jax and make him believe her innocence.

"Can't you speak or hear?" Julia was displeased. Julia has seen her mother giving punishments to the slaves if they misbehave or disobey. She herself was strict and currently she was not in a good mood because her uncle and aunt were killed mercilessly.

If these slaves were involved in siding with the enemies then she would punish them to death. Lala's  silence made Julia exasperated "Milady, this girl was brought by master Jax." The housekeeper saw the growing anger of the lady and spoke.

"What?" Julia stopped in the middle before slapping her. "When did he bring her and why?" she asked the housekeeper. "Yesterday after the brutal incident she was brought here and nobody knows why." The housekeeper lowered his head.

"I have to ask Jax about it." Julia murmured and went inside the mansion. She could not believe that Jax could be heartless to make a girl slave and to what  caused him to decide this way.

Jax and his cousins were coming out of the living room when Julia stopped them, "Where are you all going?" she asked curiously because they did not mention anything to her. Things were a little suspicious in this mansion and Jax was also looking much different from his usual carefree self. His red eyes and rage was in search of murderers.

"We will be back in an hour around lunch time." Foster replied instead of Jax and they left in a hurry. Carriage was prepared already and they headed toward the White mansion since Jesse White was not in the Town, they could easily search. He has lesser servants in the mansion because he lived alone separate from his family.

The sky was still dark and despite it being late morning it seemed midnight, the dark clouds were moving around with the strong wind and the empty road leading to the mansion presented the picture of a haunted place.

They entered the mansion and few servants were ordered to stand outside of the mansion. Jax was the new Lord of this town so he might not be questioned by anyone. Especially when he has a strong reason to do this. Everyone in white's mansion followed the orders of the new Lord, they silently left the mansion.

The winds were playing with the half opened windows. The flickering oil lamps were ready to give in but the wind stopped as if it started sobbing in some corner.

Jax and his cousins searched various rooms of the mansion, Jax walked in the master bedroom which was reserved only for the master of the mansion.

Jax searched the drawers, he turned the side tables upside down because he was burning with hatred and mixed emotions, and it was not easy to suffer all this. He was feeling agony still he was worried about the girl, perhaps he misunderstood her condition.

The room was searched and when he was about to throw away the rest of papers, his eyes fell on a picture. It was under the other papers. He extended his hands and picked it up.

The wind blew and thunder flashed light. He could clearly see the person in the picture; he was silently looking at it. Jax put the picture inside his side pocket and they left the mansion.

This picture was the first proof. And he was boiling with hatred. He did not know how he was suppressing his anger. But the question was why and how Jesse knew the girl.

"Jax why are you silent?" Foster asked, seeing his silence. "It's nothing. I wish to ask you a favor." He spoke.

"You never need permission to ask, right?" Foster stared. He did not stared at Jax but right behind him at distance, the distance of hundred yards; his eyes sparkled red but still could not figure out who it was.

"There is someone keeping eyes on us." he ran toward the forest and Jax followed. "What are we following?" Jax asked. They were running toward the specific place where Foster saw the blurry figure.

Foster stopped at the place and looked around; vampires were not considered better when it comes to sensing the presence of a wolf when the wolves used the special amulet these days. "I couldn't see who it was? Either the one knows the limits of a vampire or someone is really into it." Foster checked the ground and examined carefully.

Jax was completely oblivious to what was happening, why everything was mysterious. What was going on in the town? All the questions were related to his girl, she could answer them. "Who are you?" he screamed his lungs out. Jax was broken, the love of his life, his passions, his family, his kind and caring parents, he lost them. He was broken; he was supposed to marry her while she killed his parents.
