Chapter 4: Abominations

Dian Cecht

XXXXX

The carriage comes to a screeching halt. The door swings open into nightly Victorian streets. A massive elven woman steps out. An absolute Amazonian compared to those of her race. Her raven black viking braid falling past a cloth mask covering the right side of her face, then down past her turtleneck wrapped in a leather combat harness. It gives a little too much ascent to her chest. Her boots collide with the flagstone underneath as she adjusts her pants slightly. "Anderson, this is the place right?"

"Yes, Lady Dian." Her butler spoke from behind her. A human easily in his early 60s. Even with his grey hair and wrinkles, he was as spry as could be.

"Alright you know the drill. 20 minutes and you start worrying. 30; and assume I'm dead. Everything's in your name so make sure your family lives a rich and easy life."

"I don't think that's going to happen my lady."

"Ha, you know me too well."

Dian entered the front door of an old dilapidated row house. It was a classic case. Subterranean monsters burrow into an unsuspecting family's basement. The family's gone then neighborhood pets begin disappearing. People are kept up by strange noises in the night. She draws two elven kukri machetes to pry open the basement door.

The job lasted an easy 15 minutes. A few giant bugs killed. A nest destroyed and cave tunnel collapsed. That was until a straggler leapt on her from the ceiling.

"Dammit!" She yelled getting knocked on her back. The only thing keeping the creature from biting through her neck with it's mandible were her blades. Unfortunitly they were pointed towards her, leaving her to risk slashing her own throat first.

Desperately she bit her lip, enough to draw blood. Though it was a light trickle it was enough. The stream crawled along her face decorating it like tribal war paint. In a flash of red the blood dissipates as her kukris light on fire. The insect retreats from the sudden flames.

Dian pounces up and gets a good slash into the insect's chitin. The flames on the kukris explode scorching the bug then dissipate. As Dian was just about to give the final blow the darkness of the cave grew even darker. Not even her natural night vision could keep up. It felt like her blood was boiling. The darkness give to a bright light as she was now in some royal garden. Her two blades make contact with the foregrip of a crossbow. She saw her new opponent. A white Lizardfolk with a broken Ahnk tattooed on the forehead of his velosiraptor like head.

"You thought you could do this to me, and that there wouldn't be concequences?" The Lizardfolk spoke in in a gruff and raspy tone. Though the fury in his eyes would lead one to think of anger. His voice hinted more towards disappointment. "Oh come on! I was just having a little fun." Laughed a cloaked figure. He's prone and backed against a tree, with the Lizardfolk pointing the end of his crossbow at him.

Even in this moonlit forest. The cloaked man could see in between the flaps of his adversary's bone adorned cloak with every breeze of the wind. The Lizardfolk's torse looked as if his whole ribcage was removed and only barely put back in again as the entire area is covered in scar tissue. A clear sign of Necromancy.

"You were one of my favorite experiments, Ave." He said trying to hold back a laugh.

"Don't you dare utter my name, fiend. My people are dead because of you. I died because of you. Your hubris will be your downfall. You don't know what it's like to be torn apart alive. Still conscious while your flesh is ripped from the bone. I will make sure we share this experience."

"Oh Ave, don't you know it's not nice to revenge monologue." The necromancer clinched his fist. Ave turned as he heard a footstep behind him. One of the necromancer's wights came charging at him. Ave held up his crossbow to block. In a single blink a single sword became two, and his eyes stung from the sudden arrival of daylight. Ave had seen elves before, but this one was exceptionally tall.

"You aren't undead." He spoke.

"And you aren't a monster." She replied.

"That I know of." They both said together.

"Though I wish I could say the same about myself." They thought separately.

Realizing they aren't each other's enemy they relent their weapons. "Don't suppose you know how we got here, Lizard?"

"No. I am wondering the same." The two looked around. It was indeed a magnificent garden. Rose bushes, flower beds, and several topiaries depicting birds of prey.

"Well whoever's yard we landed in they are of some sort of nobility. Which we are trespassing." Dian sighed. "Guess I'll have to get Anderso-- Fuck! Anderson! Lizard, do you have the time?" Ave stared blankly at her. His silver eyes piercing. "Right, the Lizardfolk don't care about time like we do."

A guard on patrol noticed the two. Staggering for a moment she blurted out. "T-trespassers!"

Dian grabbed onto the hilt of her blades. Ave grabbed her by the wrist. "No, kill one and they will be back with a vendetta. We go quietly for now." She takes her hands off and pulls her arm from his grasp. She scowls. "Here we go again..."

Got some good advice about setting and character description. So characters that have already been introduced will get more description later cause I don't want to go back and edit chapters if I don't have to.
