Chapter 48: What Did You Do...?

Grinning with interest, Zyxel took a step forward, as the two girls clung to each other in terror.

He reached down and picked up each of them, one in each arm. This place was not safe for the two of them, and he needed to get them away from this location.

The two girls shivered in terror while in his grasp. They didn't attempt to fight or run, they just simply shook in fear. Whatever had caused them to seek him out, it wasn't due to because they wanted to meet him.

He pushed with his mind to attempt to read their thoughts, but their mental babble that was racing through their thoughts was as incomprehensible as their violent shaking of their bodies. He knew these girls might eventually cause themselves a heart attack if he attempted to fly them too far.

So he decided to only fly up to one of the taller buildings, to allow them some privacy. As well as provide them some safety from anyone below looking to do them harm. Nearby was a roof access door that would lead them to a stairwell that they could use to head back down.

Reaching the rooftop, he set the two girls down in a shaded section of the roof. Slowly, he took a few steps back to show he meant them no harm. He studied them, as he waited for them to calm down.

The brown haired girl gained her composure the quickest. She glanced up at Zyxel, and nervously glanced around where he had taken them. "What do you plan to do to us?" she asked, hesitantly.

Zyxel laughed at the question and he grinned. "You are the ones who came calling for me and seeking me out. Yet you ask what I plan to do with you? I should be the one asking this of you. So, what is it that you want?" He said, folding his arms over his chest.

Rachael shivered as she watched Zyxel grin, and the laugh only made it more creepy to her. "Tr-Tr-Trinity asked us to f-find you." Rachael stammered.

"Trinity?" Zyxel asked, confused. The look on his face softened as he heard her name. He figured that since she wasn't here with them, it meant she didn't want to see him. He looked away from the two girls, trying to hide his heartache that he was feeling inside.

Zyxel shook his head. "She's better off without me. Tell her that she needs to live her life, free from me." He turned around, signifying that was the end of the conversation.

Rachael looked up in shock. She watched his face as it changed from hard and unreadable, to an almost soft expression, before he eventually turned away from them. She could tell that he was trying to hide something, but it truly looked like the sound of Trinity's name made him sad.

Did he actually care about her, the same as Trinity seemed to care for him? The mere thought of this possibility seemed so foreign to her.

As he turned away, she could see him bending his knees in preparation to leap off the roof. "Wait!" she shouted as she darted after him.

She had expected him to take off already before she was able to reach him. Instead, he ended up turning around to face her, and she ended up running straight into him. As she realized what had happened, her mind began panicking, expecting him to lash out. Her body froze in fear, and she closed her eyes, waiting for him to end her life.

Zyxel grabbed her by each of her shoulders and guided her backwards, steadying her until she regained her balance. "Calm yourself. I'm not here to hurt you." He grumbled with annoyance. He waited for her to continue with what she had to say.

Looking back over, the blonde haired girl remained in place where he set her down, still shivering with fear.

Opening back up her eyes, Rachael stepped back from the position that he pushed her. He wasn't acting how she expected him to act. "Why do you say she is better off without you?" She was curious what he had meant by that.

Zyxel narrowed his eyes at her and growled. "Why did you come here?" He replied back without answering her question.

Rachael squared her shoulders back as she stood proud and tall in an attempt to hide her fear. "As I mentioned already. Trinity asked us to come. She needs your help. Apparently, she is under the impression that only you can help her." She stared at him as she spoke again. "You care about her, don't you?"

"She's better off without me." Zyxel repeated again, but something else she had said caught his attention. "Why does she need my help?" He asked with concern resonating deep in his voice. "Tell me what happened!"

Rachael hid an amused smile as she found his reaction intriguing. He was trying so hard to pretend he didn't care for Trinity.

Before Rachael could answer his question, the three of them were bombarded with a strong mental blast that sent Rachael falling to her knees from the telepathic shockwave. "That's what she needs help with!" She shouted, not sure if Zyxel would be able to hear her through the mental projection that Trinity was broadcasting out to everyone in the city.

Zyxel's eyes went wide as he recognized Trinity's mind in the blast. Although Rachael had collapsed from the mental pressure, Zyxel remained upright. Seemingly unaffected by the mental blast that was being projected.

Still, he could be seen visibly shaking as he registered what the pain was that she was projecting out. It was a pain that he was only all too familiar with, very recently.

He roared in anger. 'What the hell happened to her?' he screamed inside his mind.

He looked back at Rachael and pointed at the roof access door that would lead down from the roof. He waited for her to confirm that she understood.

Rachael crawled back over to Jessica who was now doubled over in a fetal position, cradling her head.

Looking over in the direction of the church, Zyxel didn't waste any time. He launched himself up into the air, racing to find the source of what was causing her such pain. "I'm coming, Trinity!" he shouted aloud.

~*~*~*~*~

As Zyxel reached the balcony to Amara's room at the church, the first thing he noticed immediately was Trinity laying on Amara's bed. While Amara was tracing her finger over Trinity's forehead through a cloth barrier.

He let out a menacing growl as he roared with rage at whatever his sister was doing to Trinity. "What did you do to her?!" Zyxel snarled at her, his eyes dancing wildly with a fierce, bright red glow. He could feel the rage building inside him at the thought of Trinity having possibly been tortured by Amara in some way. He never thought she would stoop so low as to attempt this.

As Amara turned around, she saw her brother diving across the bed, aiming an attack straight for her, with a murderous expression on his face. Amara barely had enough time to wrap her wings around herself in protection before he was already on her.

"Your wings may be strong, but you are no match for me, Zara!" He roared again in anger. He allowed his rage to fuel his attacks. "Answer me, and tell me what the hell you did to her!" Zyxel screamed in outrage as he slashed his claws at her wings.

Although her wings were made of feathers and could be soft and gentle when she wanted them to be. She could also harden them to be as harder than steel. While a demon's claws could still do damage, it took a lot more than just one slash to cut through her hardened wings.

She pushed against him with her wings, and tucking her legs up underneath him, she kicked him off her and sent him flying into the opposite wall. The sound of glass shattering sounded as he slammed against a mirror.

Quick as lightning, she was up in a flash and gripped her brother by the throat. "I could be asking you the same thing!" Before he could answer, she flung him out on the balcony and she darted off after him.

Zyxel did a somersault in the air as she flung him towards the balcony. He landed on the railing just as Amara came storming out. He gripped the railing with both of his hands and flipped around to send her into the church wall with a swift kick.

"I refuse to play these games with you right now, Zara. I felt that mental blast that Trinity broadcasted. What did you do to cause her that level of pain?" He roared with anger. "I never should have brought her back here if I knew you would do something as low as this!"

As Amara was slammed into the wall, pieces of the stone broke off. She shook her wings and dusted off the rubble and debris from the stone wall.

"You're one to talk!" Amara shouted back at him. "All of this was your doing!" She held out her hands as she summoned a lightning bolt to strike right where Zyxel was perched on the railing.

Hearing the crackle of the lightning and the static charge that filled the air, Zyxel flung himself to the side just in time before the strike hit. The lightning was filled with a blue hue, which only meant one thing. She was infusing her angel energy into the lightning attacks.

"You want to play it that way Zara, then let's go!" Zyxel called out, as two balls of fire appeared in his hands. He swung both of the fireballs towards Amara.

She flapped her wings shut around the balls of fire as they flew towards her. She was surprised how easily her wings put out his flames.

Amara let out a small laugh as realization struck her. "You're not at your full strength my dear brother! That attack was so weak!"

"I can still defeat you!" He shouted as he launched himself in her direction, arm drawn back ready to strike a punch.

Amara summoned another bolt of lightning, which Zyxel had to swerve away in order to dodge once more. "Resorting to brute strength now, are we? What happened to you?"

"That is none of your business!" Zyxel growled in annoyance.

Amara chuckled from his reaction. "I've hit a nerve! I'll tell you what I think." She bolted over to him and grabbed him by the throat and slammed him up against the wall, just as he had done to her recently. "I think you have grown soft and weak over these years. I think your feelings for this girl are causing you to become distracted. Isn't that right?" She sneered at him.

Zyxel's eyes glanced over in Trinity's direction. Although his vision was blocked, he could still sense her location, and knew she was still there, and was still safe. "I don't have any feelings for this human." Zyxel lied.

"Such a blatant lie!" Amara replied. "You see, I've been doing a little bit of hunting again recently, and do you know what I found?"

Zyxel struggled against Amara's grasp, as he looked at her in annoyance. His tail flicked out, preparing to strike, however she easily deflected the attack effortlessly.

"Let me guess, you found out how shallow you really are?" Zyxel taunted her.

Amara narrowed her eyes at his comment. But a smile appeared on her lips instead. "I found this quaint little cave tucked away in the mountains. It seems that someone has been living there for quite some time now. Don't tell me that this was actually where you kept the girl at, for so long?" She couldn't help but laugh, not understanding just how Trinity ever seemed to bond with him under these living conditions.

Zyxel snorted. "Good for you. You found where I used to live. You sound as if you feel so accomplished in your discovery!"

He pushed off against the wall, but Amara slammed him back again.

"Oh, no, no. I'm not done yet! You see, there was this interesting little box that I found as well!" Amara announced with a wicked grin.

The color seemed to drain from Zyxel's face as he realized the box she was referring to. He knew that he never should have left it there, but he never expected Amara to come across the location after all this time.

"What did you do with it?!" He growled at her aggressively.
