Chapter 16: Prophecy
Asher and Azrael nodded to Aelia's statement.
Asher added while glancing at Aelia, "Further, the present Duke of the Ramis family have also recently given divination that says 'the lion will tread the path paved by fire!'"
Aelia felt quite uncomfortable after hearing this. Unsurprisingly, the next words from Azrael's mouth proved that her anxiety was reasonable.
Azrael explained with a sigh, "According to Delphian legends, the First Delphian Emperor Limulus and his Empress Eliana, who was an ancestor of the De Ville Family, had a Simargi and a Firebird as their respective Spiritual Aides."
Aylin, who was listening to the conversation, felt like she had transported to an alternate world. She asked with disbelief, "Simargi? Firebird? Don't tell me those mythical creatures really exist!"
Asher gave a wry smile, "Well, we Delphians too thought that they were mythical until a winged cat appeared and claimed to be my Spiritual Aide, after my Awakening Ceremony!"
Aelia too found it hard to believe that these mythical creatures did actually exist.
She said a little sceptically, "So, you have a Simargi as a Spiritual Aide and if we follow the Delphian legends as well as the recent prophecy, your Empress should have a Firebird as her Spiritual Aide."
Then she suddenly realized something and looked at her brother and Asher with round eyes.
She exclaimed in disbelief, "Don't tell me, you expect me to have the Firebird as my Spiritual Aide!"
Azrael could only sigh and further explain the situation on seeing the disbelief on Aelia's face.
"You are the only one in the present generation, whose Awakening ceremony has not been performed yet. All the other heirs of the remaining Ducal Houses have already awakened their powers and none of them has called upon the Firebird as their Aide!
Besides, I'm sure you can already feel your growing powers as an empath. Ordinarily, the powers of the Delphians are only awakened after the Awakening Ceremony. However, the Heirs of the nine Ducal Houses can already sense their newly emerging powers before their Awakening Ceremony at the age of seventeen. The fact that your powers will be truly remarkable once they are awakened, is evidenced by how you can already sense people's emotions easily without much effort.
So, we can be pretty certain that the part of the prophecy dealing with the path paved by fire has something to do with you."
Hearing this, Aelia naturally felt quite shocked. All she knew and had wanted was a regular life, but now she was suddenly thrust into this mysterious Delphian lifestyle due to a prophecy. And if her conjectures were right, her engagement with Asher was also related to this.
Though she felt a little disappointed knowing that her engagement with Asher was due to a prophecy, nevertheless she understood the gravity of the situation.
She took a moment to collect her thoughts and finally looked at Asher and asked, "So, is that the reason behind our engagement, Your Highness?"
Asher scowled when he heard his angel speaking so formally to him. But he understood that she might have misunderstood their engagement as nothing but a product of the prophecy. Thinking about this, Asher felt quite bitter. He had waited to marry her for fifteen years and now she might have misunderstood his feelings.
So, he looked at Aelia with a serious expression, "Can we talk privately for a moment?"
Aelia too had some things to discuss with him. She realised that earlier she was too easily excited by Asher's gestures towards her, when all it might have been was just the result of a prophecy.
Before they could go and talk privately, Azrael said, "Wait a minute, Your Highness! I have some things to clarify with you! When I left Delphia previously, it was decided that Aelia would be given another year, before she would be involved with the Delphians. So, why are you here now?"
Azrael felt quite unwilling to give her sister's hand away to that bastard so easily. So, what if Asher was from the Delphian Royal Family or even the Crown Prince. No one deserved his sweet sister. Further, what Asher was most concerned about was the fact that he knew that though his sister appeared cold on the outside, she was a very loyal person and had a heart of gold. He did not want his sweet sister to be taken advantage of.
Asher turned to Azrael and raising one of his brows said, "Well, I too wanted to give angel some more time to live as a regular human, but if you want to still save your mother, we have to expedite the entire process."
Suddenly hearing the words 'save your mother', Mr Romanov as well as the two Romanov sisters felt shocked.
Mr Romanov opened his mouth for the first time, since the beginning of this meeting. He asked in a trembling voice, "W-what do you mean by this?"
Asher could only sigh as he knew that he would no longer be able to hide certain facts from his family.
So, he started explaining, "Dad, please don't get so agitated! I'll explain alright? As you know, mom was a Delphian who was part of the previous generation of Council members and was tasked to look after the situation regarding the world of ordinary humans. About two years ago, she finally had a lead regarding some strange disturbances in the human world. We are guessing that whoever was behind those disturbances was able to capture mom, while she was following a trail to capture that person."
Asher continued to explain, "Recently, we also have got some clues that she might possibly still be alive. But, we don't know anything else. That's why the Council has decided to initiate Aelia as a Council member as soon as possible. Because she can really make a huge difference and restore the power balance within the Council."
After hearing Asher's explanation, Andrew Romanov felt really agitated. He could not help feeling happy to hear that his wife, with whom he had thought he would never be able to meet again, was actually alive. However, he also could not help but feel his heart getting torn apart, after hearing that his wife was in a vulnerable situation that too in the hands of a vicious enemy.
