The next day
Michelle's pov
I was walking towards the school gate when I heard a car horn.
"It looks familiar. I said to myself.
Alex came down from the car.
"Hey monkey. Come here "He greeted and commanded.
"Hi and my name is Michelle. Michelle Adefarasi not monkey." I said and rolled my eyes.
"Whatever,you have work to do okay."He said bringing out big textbooks and dictionaries from his car.
"Here, carry this." He stretched the heavy textbooks towards me.
"Why do I have to carry this?" I asked.
"Well you signed a contract yesterday and you promised to whatever I ask you to do."He said looking at me and stretching the heavy books to me.
I collect them from him.
"Woah,this is really heaving." I screamed.
"You have no other choice but to carry it monkey."
He hangs his bag on my shoulder. The books were about to fall then I use my laps to support it from falling from my hands. My hair slips forward and covers my eyes. I tried using my mouth to blow little air upwards to push it back but it didn't work.
Alex moves close to me. We were just a few inches apart. He uses his fingers to rake my hair backwards and we both stare at eye other until Kate appears and interrupts.
"Hey Michelle."Kate screamed jogging towards us.
We both flinched.
"Hi Kate. Can you please help me with this?" I pleaded.
"No don't help her."Alex said and he collects the books from me immediately.
"You are been so nice today."Kate complimented Alex.
Someone calls Kate and she left us alone.
Alex gave me the books back.
"Let's go to the class."He commanded and walks away.
We both walked to class as Alex walked in front of me with his hands in his pocket and I kept struggling with the books and bags and noticed how the students kept staring at me the same way they did when I first resumed yesterday.
We entered the class. Alex took his seat and I stood beside his chair still carrying the books. Danielle looked at me and hissed.
"What am I going to do with these books?" I asked tilting my neck left and right.
"Put the books on my table and give me my bag."He commanded again.
I put the books on his table and dropped his bag too. I stretched and sat down.
"How about our project Alex?" I asked then put my elbow on my table then rest my chin on it.
He turns back.
"First." He said indicating with his thumb.
"Don't call me Alex. Call me boss. Second." indicating with his index finger.
"You all will come to my house after school for the project." He said and looked away from me.
"Do you have a laboratory in your house?" I asked with my mouth wide open.
He stares at me.
"Oh sorry boss."
Kate walks into the class. She takes her sit which is beside me.
"Kate!" I called her.
"How am I going to tell my mom I am going to a boy's house for a project?" I asked Kate.
"Which boys house?" She asked.
"Alex said we should come to his house for our project. He has a lab at home." I explain.
"I could follow you home to explain and I'll use the opportunity to know your parents." She said happily.
"My mom won't allow and my grandma is sick. I have to stay by her side." I said.
The bell rings. A teacher walks in and taught us English for an hour then the bell rings again.
Alex calls I, Kate and Marco and we both went to the laboratory. We wore our lab coat and took our seat.
"Okay so I have explained this to you yesterday. so let's try it out." I said stretching to take a lead nitrate on the table.
"Just shut up and sit down monkey." Alex said and laughed. Marco joined too.
"You know what? I am out. I am tired of you guys. What's wrong with you? I am human too okay. Even if I am black I am still human." I said as tears rolled down my eyes and I walked out of the lab straight to Mrs Angela's office. I knocked and I heard her voice.
"Come in." She said in her usual tiny voice.
"Hi ma'am." I said and took my seat.
"I'd like to do my project on my own." I said as tears continue to roll down from my eyes.
"Do you know why I assigned that project to you guys?" She asked while playing with her pen.
"I don't know ma."I answered cleaning my tears with the back of my hands.
"I did it for you. You know." She stands up and walks towards me.
"St Mary is a prestigious school for whites only, do you think those kids will make it easy for you here. I did it so you could make at least new friends. So you could feel free and know you belong here." She said and strokes my hair.
"I don't belong her ma. I am tired of been called name. I am tired of Daniella and her little squad and Alex that annoying brat. I am sorry ma but I am tired and I am thinking of changing school." I said looking straight into her eyes.
"You have to fight for yourself here Mich. You have to. You see those kids, they are only friends because they belong to the same class. The rich befriends the rich and the middle class befriends the middle class. Fight for yourself okay." She said and kissed my forehead.
"Thank you so much ma." I said and stand up
"You are welcome." She replies and hugs me.
I walked back to the class and sat down.
Alex pov
"Okay so I have explained this yesterday so let's try it out." Michelle said while stretching to take a lead nitrate on the table.
Just shut up and sit down monkey." I said harshly and burst into laughter. Marco joins too.
"You know what? I am tired of you guys. I am human too okay. Even if I am black I am still human." She said at tears rolled down her eyes and walks out of the lab.
"Now what's wrong with the drama queen?" I asked.
"Let's go and apologize to her." Kate suggested.
"Don't worry I'll handle it. " I said and took of my lab coat.
"Handle what? Don't ruin it Alex." I heard Kate yell.
I left the laboratory and started looking for Michelle.
"Have you seen Michelle? " I asked a random student.
"Who is Michelle."He asked looking confused.
"The black new girl." I answered back.
"I saw her a while ago. She went to that class over there." He said pointing to a class down the hall.
I jogged to the class and saw Michelle's head on the table. I heard her sob.
"Hey Mich, do you want me to fail?" I asked.
"Just leave me alone okay. I want to be alone." She replies angrily with her head still on the table.
"Do you realize who you are talking to? Alexander Williams,the second." I boasted.
She raises her head up.
"Get lost you self centered boy. I am no longer interested in the project."She said as tries rolls down her eyes.
"Thanks for the compliment." I said smiling.
"Do you want Kate to fail. The only friend that have always supported you since you resumed here yesterday." I said trying to blackmail her. I sat on a table in front of her.
"Leave me alone."She said looking at the window avoiding eye contact with me.
"Okay I'll go tell Kate you bailed on her." I said and walked away. As I was about to walk out of the class,she called me.
"Fine I'll do it okay but don't call me names." She said and stands up.
"I'll try. I am still your boss after all." She said and walks towards me and we both head back to the library.
Kate Pov
Back in the lab I kept pacing.
"What is Alex going to do? What if he makes the case worse?" I asks herself.
"Let's go look for them."I tell Marco.
"Let's wait a little bit. Maybe he is trying to convince her." Marco replies
I kept pacing round the room not realizing that my shoe lace is untied. i slip and fall.
"ouch." I yelled.
"Sorry."Marco carries me and puts me on the chair the starts massaging my ankle.
"It's so painful." I yelled again.
Alex and Michelle walks in.
"Hmm, what's happening here?" Alex asked.
"I fell." I answered.
"Oh no. Are you okay?" Michelle asks and walks up to me.
"I am a bit okay. Thanks for coming back." I said trying to smile.
"You should thank me instead. If not for." Alex starts bragging but was cut off my Michelle.
"Shut up brat." Michelle commanded.
