Chapter 15: Demons' night out
"Wow, this place is so pretty!"
"It's alright."
This was Shin and Makomo. They were high up on a building looking over the city, Shin was eying a stand across from them that had a bunch of masks of animals on display.
"Makomo, are you going to get a new mask or are you going to stick with that one?" Shin asked.
Makomo held a white fox mask that had blue flowers on it with a reminiscent look and a calm smile on her face. "I think I'll stick with this one master."
"Mn."
Shin hopped down from the building with Makomo following behind not long after. The two silently landed on the streets and swiftly moved through the crowd fast enough for people not to catch a glimpse of them.
As they reached the stand Shin quickly grabbed a fox mask. It was black with white markings on it that curved up to the ears, a white diamond like shape on the nose, and a crescent moon shape on the forehead.
Since he was able to see things normally he took a liking to Makomo's kitsune mask, so he went for one similar to it. The man behind the stand eyes went wide when he saw two kids run off with his prized mask.
He quickly stood up and tried to chase after them but by the time he came around the two were already gone. "What the hell..I worked so hard for that mask!"
While the man was crying his heart out over the mask one of the two culprits was giggling hearing his yell.
Once running to a safe distance the two stopped at an alleyway. Makomo watched as Shin put on the mask he 'borrowed'. "What's next, master?" She asked.
"We should get some new clothes first." He said looking at the girl in front of him, her clothes were still bloody from last night and he was in the same situation.
Makomo noticed his gaze and lightly laughed with a small blush on her face. The two quickly started making their way through the crowds once again until they found a shop selling clothes.
Shin nodded towards Makomo before they both vanished into the store. After a minute or so the demons appeared in the corner of the shop in new outfits.
Makomo wore a dark blue skirt kimono. The arm parts were slightly oversized and had black slightly see through edges. The obi was black with a bow on it. The bow had a white crescent moon sitting in the center of it and the skirt part of it also had a miniature crescent moon on it as well with black edges.
She also wore black stockings that left a bit of her thighs visible and white gloves on her hands that were holding a bag.
Shin wore a white nagagi kimono with a red haori. It was simple yet he made it look as if it was something of high quality.
They stared at each other for a minute in silence. "You look good." Shin said.
"T-Thank you, you do as well!" Makomo returned the compliment with a smile.
"What's in the bag?" Shin curiously looked at the bag she was holding.
"It's just another outfit for later, in case another mess happens." Makomo answered with a light giggle. "So master, are we going to make a run for it or buy them this time?"
"Make a run for it of course." Shin answered before vanishing from his spot. He appeared outside behind the pane of glass and walked away.
Makomo quickly left before the door closed with. "Now all we need are the umbrellas right?" She asked looking around at the other shops.
Now that they didn't have to constantly move around like before she was able to take in the beauty of Asakusa. She was constantly looking at treats or cosmetic things.
"Pretty much." He answered. He turned his head towards her and noticed how she was constantly looking at every new thing they passed with sparkles in her eyes.
"Once we get our umbrellas we can explore until sunrise." Makomo looked towards him and nodded in response.
Shin was planning to only get a mask and an umbrella so they'd be able to move through the day but seeing Makomo like this made him change his mind.
She had already proven her loyalty over the years, and her performance last night was beyond satisfactory to him. So it was best to reward her for her efforts.
Eventually they found what they were looking for and as Shin had said they both explored the city.
The two demons were currently walking down the street. Makomo moved her mask a bit to expose her mouth and bite into an apple on a stick covered in some red candy. "Bleh, it's good but not better than what we had last night."
"What is it called anyway?" Shin looked down at the short demon.
"I think they called it an apple candy or was it a candy apple? Anyway, I'm pretty sure what we had last night ruined stuff like this for me." Makomo answered, taking another bite.
Shin grabbed a piece of candy that was close to her lips and ate it after lifting his mask a bit.
"Mn, I see what you mean."
"M-master.." Makomo's face became beet red with imaginary steam coming out of her head.
Shin looked at her slightly confused. "What's wrong?"
Makomo let out a sigh before going back to eating her candy to calm herself down. "Nothing master."
A small smile formed on Shin's face. He placed his hand on her head and ruffled her hair. "I'm kidding."
"Bully.." Makomo quietly replied.
Shin slightly chuckled at her before looking up ahead of him. A man with unnaturally pale skin and curly black hair passed them by.
Time seemed to have slowed down when Shin felt his red cat-like eyes looking over them demanding complete obedience.
The feeling quickly left as it arrived and everything seemed to go back to normal. Makomo was slightly trembling next to him and was holding onto his haori tightly.
"Who was that?" Her voice was shaking.
"That may have been the one Kokushibo was telling us about." Shin looked behind them to take another look but the man had already vanished into the crowd. He swore he could've seen a boy running after him.
"Let's continue what we're doing, if he needs us he'll call us like he did last night." Shin said moving on.
"Mn." Makomo let go of his haori and walked by his side.
