Chapter 2: Prologue
10 years....
That's how long it has been since the world changed. Since we changed. The humans.
Everything started in July 26 year 2035.
That was the day our world can crashing down. The date that got down in history as the day that humanity changed for the best or .....was it for the worst?
The rule '' Survival of the finest. '' was a rule that was followed by every living being there was on planet earth, except humans that is. Well I wouldn't say that the rule wasn't in work. Its effects were no so strong back then. We humans as the weakest creature there ever was, were created for the sole purpose to serve the strong. Calling our kind an error made by world wouldn't be wrong either.
Unlike most or all the creatures on planet earth, we were never born to survive. All creatures were born with a natural way to survive in the wild and protect themselves from their enemies. But we were not born with anything like that.
We had no claws or did we have fangs. Our arms weren't long like monkeys and apes that we by science call our ancestors nor did we have tails like them to help us climb the trees.
We had no fur and even if some did it was not thick enough for us to fight against the cold that the winters brought. All we had were our intelligence and adaptability.
These were our only salvation. Somehow we survived the past and have always tried out level best to suppress the rules of the wild in our modern civilization.
That trick worked out pretty well for the last few centuries but on July 26 2035 that trick finally snapped as people started killing one another for their own survival.
MONSTERS.
Lots and lots of monsters started to appear from cracks that appeared in many cities all around the world, sparing no land untouched. They started attacking us like crazy. Our strongest weapons were no match for the monsters as even the weakest monsters need the sacrifice of 100 people to kill just one of them.
The world was in chaos. I guess mother nature had enough and wanted to establish the balance that the humans had destroyed again, but like I said she wanted balance.
Humans started to appear all around the world with powers that were able to defeat the monsters a very long six months after the invasions started. They called themselves Peace Keepers.
The situation was taken under control in the next 1.5 years and human kind managed to survive the disaster. Cities were built again and we're then occupied with life again. The scientists found ways to us the monster parts in human society and everything started to fall in place again. Sure the monsters were still there and they attacked the cities from time to time but the Peace Keepers were able to keep everything under control. Peace was back with a little bit more trouble.
Wish it would have stayed like that.
January 16 year 2039.
4 years after the monster invasion started. Every country now has Hunters, Players, Peace Keepers, Heros, whatever you would like to call them, of their own. New ranks were made for the Hunters, monsters and the cracks which now were called Dungeons.
The ranks were divided into F, E, D, B, A, S, S+, SS, SS+ and SSS. With F- being the weakest and SSS being the strongest. Anything above the S rank were considered a myth but the government still kept the ranks for specific cases. Though the minus and plus were Players, Monsters and Dungeons with special cases. There were many with either a plus or minus in their ranking. Though the different wasn't much it was a fatal flaw that could become life threatening if not taken care of.
The Peace Keepers started to act savagely. They became money hungry. They started demanding compensation for each dungeon they raid. Monster corpses were already a lot of money if they didn't count the amount of herbs, minerals and resources that were found in the dungeons so their demands became absurd. But there was nothing the government could do. The Heros were the only ones who could fight the monsters. A person who was not awaken could ever land a scratch on the monsters even with the help of weapons made from monster materials. The government having no choice agreed to their demands, but their cruelty didn't end there it kept increasing. This out normal people in a tough situation. They were many people who were starved and we're treated like slaves by the Hunters. There was nothing that they could do but endure. Anyone who was awakened, even the weakest among the rest were treated like kings by the normal people.
Now this place has become a world where the strong grows stronger and the weak grows weaker. If you cannot contribute on this world than you have no right to live as you become nothing but death weight. Human lives were worth nothing in this world. If you don't have enough strength or a powerful backing than you can be easily disposal of.
This world now has become my world. But I have no sympathy for this world, nor do I have pity. I am only regretful about one thing. Something that I did at the start of this world on July 26 year 2035. Something that I may regret about for the rest of my life as it is a trap that I have dug for myself.
