Chapter 5: Alpha's
Daniel's POV
"You knew?" I can't believe she knew. I never really talked about her or her mother and I never talked with her on the phone outside my office. My office is soundproof for meetings with other alphas.
"Courtney, I'm sorry. I wasn't trying to keep it from you forever. I just didn't know how to talk to the two if you. I didn't want you to hate her either. I just didn't know how to talk to you about it. I'm sorry. Please forgive me." I can't believe I was so stupid to think that they wouldn't accept their sister. I was so naïve.
"Dad, we understand but you should have talked to us about her." I turn to give her another hug. I really should have talked to them about their sister. Now I have to figure out how to talk with her in person. How to explain what she is and what's going to happen on her birthday. "We know it will be hard but we are her to help." How did I get so lucky?
"What do you think I should do?" I guess there is no better person to ask than my other daughter. She has met her and befriended her on the first day of school for her.
"Dad, honestly, you need to just talk to her. Invite her to get to know us. She needs to learn about her family, and we want to get to know her also. She is our future Alpha until she finds her mate. She needs to learn what to do. How to handle her wolf when she shifts. We can help her." I feel so ashamed that I have not been more proactive in her life. All I did was call and send Ress money to support them both. I stop and watch her slowly get up and walk to the door, as she grabs the doorknob she turns to look at me and smiles "Dad, we love you and no matter what the outcome, she will be part of the family. You just need to get her to see us that way. But you said her birthday is soon so you need to hurry and talk to her and start getting to know her better."
How did I get so lucky to have such a smart daughter? "Because we're the Alpha" my wolf states. "yeah, yeah. But we are very lucky to have such family as we do." I retort back at him.
"Call her dear. It's time we all get to know your daughter." Beth, my mate mind-linked me. She always knows what to do and say.
Caleb's POV
I hate these meeting. I know that I must attend since my dad is wanting to retire and transfer the Alpha title to me soon. But currently, I cannot give any input, so I just sit here and listen to a bunch of old farts bicker about rogue attacks that they want someone else to solve for their packs. I give my dad a disapproving look and he turns to me with a weird and uncanny look, "Since my son will be taking over officially soon, I'd like to see how he would handle this situation. Caleb is young, but smart. And I will trust what he says." my dad continues to look at me with look of confidence allowing me to step up to the plate.
"The first thing would be to increase the security at the perimeter. Then I would start to focus on our training, I would start by adding some new training lead personally by me, then see if our neighboring packs Gamma had other suggestions that maybe we have not thought of or used within our pack yet. I have learned from my dad that even if we are a self-sustaining pack, it never hurts to get another point of view." I voice confidently and with just enough authority of an alpha not to overstep them as they are head of their packs and I am still in training until later this month.
"Well spoke Caleb." One of the other alpha's states. Another says "My thought's exactly young one" and then my dad turns to Daniel the Alpha of the Blue Springs pack "Alpha Daniel, would your Gamma be able to aid in trying out my son's suggestion. As he will be taking over in the next few weeks, I will be letting him take more action with my guidance of course." I know the look on my face is a look of shock as I was not expecting that.
"Soon-to-be-Alpha Caleb, I will have Gamma Jack met you in the next few days and come up with a plan to benefit us both as our south borders connect."
"I will let our border patrol know to expect Gamma Jack and allow him passage Alpha Daniel." responding with authority again since I know that my dad has now trusted me with some decision making and I know that Alpha Daniel and my dad are close friends he would have allowed this also. The meeting comes to a close and we all exit the meeting hall and walk to our separate cars, dad nudges my shoulder "Well-spoken in there son. You will make a great Alpha in your time. I have no worries about how you will care for the pack once you completely take over with the title of Alpha. I am very proud of you." He has a smile with pride on his face looking at me. "Let's get back to the pack and talk about planning your ceremony. And talk about you finding your mate. You will need her soon to help you be a successful Alpha." We get into the black SUV that we chose for this drive.
I need to find my mate, but the problem with that is that I know she is not in any of the packs close by or I would have sensed her when I visited even if she wasn't of age since I am of Alpha blood. Dear Goddess please send her to me soon. Normally werewolves find their mates within 2 years of their first shift at 17, I will be 21 in a month. I know she is still out there, I just need to wait for her.
