Chapter 6: New Life

THE SPIRIT of the flower girl wandered from the depths of the Underworld. Gods may have forgotten this little form of life. May or may not be given a chance to be reincarnated. It was just so small. The spiritual energy in her is too weak to be noticed. It was easy for anyone to miss.

Thus, that spirit wasn't hoping to be reincarnated anymore nor even to remember the promise that she had been clinging into. After all, she was just a lowly spirit. Insignificant and no use at all.

Until that one day. Until that one faithful day. When she finally felt the familiar warmth again. That when she finally heard that sweet and soft voice.

"I finally found you my little one," said the familiar voice. "I'm here now. I'm here to fulfill my promise. I'm sorry that it took so long."

The spirit heard the smile on the woman's voice. It didn't know if it smiled back to the voice. Didn't even know if it responded. But one thing that it was feeling.

Happy.

That finally, it won't be alone. That finally, it would be able to serve her beloved Goddess. That it would be able to see her once again.

{Mama.}

"I hear you, my sweet flower. We are going back now." The voice whispered. "And when you open your eyes, you would see me along with the other creations. They are waiting for you. And I hope that you'd be able to give them the same thing that you have given to me. Hope."

And with just that, the spirit didn't hear anything anymore. Then there was darkness. But this time, the darkness wasn't scary anymore for it still felt the familiar warmth.

The warmth with care. The warmth with love. The warmth of a mother.

And when she opened her eyes, the warm and bright rays of light made her close its eyes again.

"Mama!"

***********

SHOCKED by the voice that she heard, she sat up immediately. She can see everything so vividly. Not that foggy and very focused on one thing only. Now, she can see almost everything.

"Hi—" startled with the voice again she closed her mouth with her hands. And then she looked at her hands. "I have hands! And legs! And feet!" she shouted with excitement as she waved her hands and arms in the air and kicked her legs and feet as he wiggled her toes.

"I'm a human now! Yahoo!" she immediately stood up and jump up and down.

She stopped when she felt her head. Her hair. She has it. And it has the same color as the sun. She laughed as she twirled and her hair followed her movement.

She was so happy that she had a body now. Before, she was just a ball of light, floating in the air like a fluff of cotton. She just can't believe that after being someone she can't remember, she has now a body. She then stopped what she was doing.

{Wait, how am I able to remember who I was before?}

Puzzled, she sat down again under a big tree. They say that when you get reincarnated you won't remember everything that you are before. Well, she can't remember clearly but she has a blurry idea of what she was. All that she knew that she was from a flower and she lived inside a cave. And that was how Amaterasu found her.

But remembering all that...

"How?"

Was it also her gift? Powers? Is it allowed in when you are a human?

"Maybe I should ask my mama," she smiled and stood up but stopped in her tracks when she realized something. {I can't remember where my home is. Or who my mama is.}

She hysterically looked around. Maybe just maybe she was mistaken. Maybe what she was thinking was wrong. She even looked up thinking that maybe there was a house there. But there aren't.

She closed her eyes and kept thinking about where she came from or where her house was. But to no avail, she just can't remember anything.

{Was I abandoned here? Did they leave me here? Do they not want me?}

With fear in her heart, she opened her eyes. The forest was still quiet. A faraway sound of water, the tweets of the birds, the singing of the cicadas, and a whistle of the wind are all that she can hear.

Was she still alone?

Then a rustle in the bushes not far away from her made her jump on her feet. She scrambled to hide behind the big Oak Tree's big roots. She kneeled to the ground to look for something that could protect her. She found a big stone, bigger than her hands, and a broken branch. She held onto it like her life was in it.

She was alone and she may not see her reflection she knew she was small. Everything surrounding her is big. The big Oak Tree was so big even the roots can hide her. Her hands and feet were so small that they are almost not seen in the grass.

A small hiccup escaped her lips when she heard the rustle again. She wasn't mistaken, someone was walking in her direction. She closed her eyes again, praying that it won't see her. Praying that Amaterasu would hear her.

She was imagining that it was big, with fangs and one-eyed like all the demons and ghosts in the afterlife. Or maybe a Yurei!

{Oh, please not the yurei.}

She really hates to see Yurei when she was in the afterlife. They all have black hair, lifeless hands and she can't see their feet. Most of the time, they looked like how they look when they died. And most of them were the ones who took their own life or had a gruesome death. Lack of prayers and rituals made them look so bad. They cant descend to the underworld properly and cannot be reincarnated. In the end, they wandered from Underworld to the human world. Most of them aren't bad but they just too scary for her.

Now, imagining the Yurei in the underworld made her want to close her eyes more. She wanted to take a peek at who she was against but she was afraid that the Yurei would pop out and scare her.

"Please don't let be a Yurei," she whispered in her trembling voice as he can hear the footsteps getting closer and closer. Then the footstep stopped not too far away from where she was.

Was it looking for her? Or has it finally saw her and just waiting for the right time to grab her?

{Mama!}

"Little one? I hear you. Where are you?"

Her eyes shot open when she heard that familiar voice. She wouldn't mistake it for the world. Excitement swelled inside her and with just that, she threw what she was holding and climbed out of the roots of the tree. And when she rounded up to the front of the tree, she saw who she was looking for.

That black long hair. Her face was white as snow and lips that are red as the rose. Her eyes were kind and so was her smile. The only thing that changed was her clothes.

The first time she was with Amaterasu, the Goddess was wearing golden Yukata with red obi that was brightly shining. Now it was only her obe that was golden. Amaterasu was wearing a white kosode with red stitches at the end of the sleeves as red as the hakama she was wearing.

"My little flower, why are you there? I just left you for a minute, waiting for you to wake up. When I came back you are gone."

She smiled widely at her. She thought she wasn't alone. Amaterasu was there. Her mama was there. Then she remembered how she has left behind a long long time ago.

Slowly her smile faded and tears started to fall. "Mama." She called. "Mama, you came back. I thought you have forgotten. I thought I would be alone."

A sad smile then curved on Amaterasu's lips. "I didn't forget you, my little. When I came back for you, you were already gone. I tried to look for you in the Underworld but father and mother wouldn't let me."

"Why?" she asked as she let Amaterasu wiped the tears in her cheeks. She didn't hesitate to bury her face in her hand as felt the warmth that she was longing for.

Amaterasu let her do so and just carried the little girl in her arms. She thought that it was a mutual feeling that the little girl was longing for her warmth as she was longing for her adoration.

"Underworld is a dark, dark world." Amaterasu stated. "they didn't want me to be tainted as I am the one who is taking care of all their creations. You see, if I let myself be tainted by that darkness, everything might get ruined. Everything that my parents build is nothing. They aren't confident that cleansing at the Misogi would help me be purified. I, too, am not confident. That was why it took so long for me to find you."

Amaterasu tapped the little girl's nose and smiled at her hoping that it would help the little one understand why. Waiting to be forgiven by this pure soul, the agony and longing, it was longer than when she waited for the battle in her lands to be finished.

"When father said that he finally found you, I didn't waste any chance and got down here in the human realm to fetch you. And now look at you, here."

Amaterasu kneeled and placed the little girl down. She showed the little girl a bunch of yellow flowers amongst the grasses underneath the big oak tree that shades the wonderful sea of Dandelions.

"This is you now, my little one," Amaterasu said as she hugged the girl close facing the flower bed of Dandelion. "You are the spirit of the Dandelion. You are the Dandelion of the forest. You are my Dandy."

A gust of soft wind flutter and blew some of the pollens and leaves, as if greeting and welcoming her to this new world.

"Thank you, Mama!" With tears and laughter on her face, she clung and hugged Amaterasu. She has a name now.

She was Dandy, the Dandelion of the forest.
