Chapter 17: Chapter 17: A forbidden love

The snow fell gently down upon the kingdom of wolves. The young wolf princess yawned as she opened her eyes. She had eyes the color of gold and hair a dark brown with the tips the same color of her eyes. She was sixteen years old and the oldest daughter of the Aldawolfa royal family. Her name was Rose Aldawolfa. Jumping out of bed, she bounced over to the window to watch the snow fall. She was always scolded for not acting like a proper lady, but she never cared what they said because she liked who she was and would never change. Her hair was long and her golden wolf ears stuck out and her tail. She quickly got dressed for the day, in a dress the color of a winter morning. She snuck out of her room quietly not wanting to be caught.
"Are you sneaking out again?" Lily says. Lily was only twelve, with short blonde hair and eyes the color of a summer sky. Rose smiles.
"I'll only be out a little bit," Rose says.
"Okay, I won't tell, if I can borrow your colored pencils for the day" Lily says.
"Fine, then that's a deal okay" Rose says. Lily smiles.
"Deal."
With her winter cloak, Rose snuck out of the castle using the back gate. Wandering through the woods on her morning walk. Winter was her favorite season and Rose loved watching the snowfall. It was very cold out that morning, so she could see her breath in the air. Pulling her fur cloak closer, she walked on. She stopped by the river's icy bank, watching the frigged water flow down into the valley below. Having her hood pulled up over her ears she didn't hear the boy standing on the other side of the stream watching her. Rose stretched out her hand towards the water, letting the tips of her fingers skim across the water. The hair on the back of her neck stands up, as she senses another spirit. She turns her head abruptly up, staring the boy in the eyes. She jumps back a little bit, but stands her ground. He was a human and he was very tall with eyes the color of the waters icy depths, with his hair jet black, and his sword in his sheath glistening dangerously.
"Sorry I startled you" The human boy apologizes. He looked around my age. He seemed to be no threat.
"It's okay, I'm just a bit surprised that's all" I reply back calmly.
"Sorry, do you mind if you help me, I'm kind of lost" He asks me. "By the way, my name's Baron."
"I'll help you then Baron, my name is Rose" I reply, giving a sly smile. "There's no need for last names, we can keep that a secret." I had never met a human before and I was curious. I was told to avoid humans, but he seemed so gentle and kind. I couldn't just leave him lost out in the cold so I decided to help him. Taking a running start I lunge forward and jump across the river. The river was about six feet wide and Baron stared in amazement as I landed perfectly on the other side of the river where he stood. My one hand still holding my hood down over my wolf ears, I didn't want to scare him away.
"Wow, that's amazing," Baron said in awe. I smile from the attention.
"So where are you heading?" I say, getting down to business.
"The hunting camp in the valleys below the mountains," Baron says.
"Lucky for you, we are quite close to there" I say, trudging forward in the deep snow. We walked on for a little while before Baron spoke, breaking the silence.
"Rose, where do you come from?" Baron asks. Without thinking I reply.
"A great kingdom from the mountains."
"You live in the mountains!!!, I heard there are blood thirsty wolves up there that eat human" Baron says.
"What nonsense" I say, laughing. "Who told you that,"
"My older brother," he replies.
"Well tell your brother, that's foolish to think that" I say, coming to a rocky cliff overlooking the vast valley below. I close my eyes letting the winter breeze blow into my face.
"Aaaah" I hear a muffled voice behind me.
"Baron is something wrong," I say, turning around to face him. He looked terrified.
"Your ears, you're not human" Baron says in fear. I quickly pull my hood back up.
"Oops" I say, giving a nervous laugh.
"Are you going to eat me?" Baron says, putting a hand to his sword.
"Rest in ease, wolves don't eat humans' ' I say. "Nor are we bloodthirsty monsters, so since you already know there's nothing in hiding my true self. My name is Rose Alderwolfa, first daughter of the royal family and first princess of the kingdom of wolves" I gave a small bow, leaving my hood down so he could see my ears.
"Well then, my name is Baron Turner, first son of the Amendale empire" Baron says, giving a bow.
"Okay, how about we call this a truce then" I say, stretching out my hand. He takes it.
"Deal."
From then on they kept seeing each other, not as different races but as friends. Slowly Baron started falling madly in love with Rose and finally he asked her to marry him. Of course her reply was yes. So it was decided that Rose went with her father and mother to the empire of Amendale for the truce of the three biggest kingdoms. Rose and Baron were both going to ask their parents for their permission in marriage.
Rose and Baron were standing hand and hand waiting for their fathers to finish their meeting.
"I'm nervous Baron, I hope they will allow our marriage" Rose says, looking at Baron. He was now a grown man and she was a beautiful lady.
"Don't worry, I will do anything to be with you and I will not except anything but yes" Baron says reassuring Rose. Standing in front of Baron's fathers office Rose looks up to the sound of yelling. Not thinking she lunges forward and whips open the door. She covers her mouth to muffle her scream. There on the tile her father and Baron's lay motion less beside the vampire king. Charles stands above them, sword in hand with blood dripping from it's blade. The smell of blood fills the air like death. Baron stood beside Rose in horror. Breathing heavily Charles looks up at his brother and Rose. Baron quickly grabs Rose's hand and starts running. Rose is sobbing as he sweeps her up into his arms. He didn't know what to do but run, to get as far away from his brother before he could hurt anyone else he loved. The three queens where laughing and talking together on the balcony. Baron runs to them. Setting down Rose he yells to them.
"Run, there is an assassin in the palace. The kings are dead." That was all he could manage to say. The three queens immediately fled, guards protecting them safely. Rose wasn't even able to say goodbye to her mother before Baron grabbed her and fled. It wasn't much later that Charles was named king and the great wall went up. Baron and Rose where trapped and hunted, but not even that could have kept them from trying to live happily and that's what they did. It was truly a forbidden love.
