Chapter 16: Chapter 16 - Mortal Realm
In a particular small town.
Inside a small shop full of various kinds of trinkets and stuff, a fair-looking young man was sitting at the counter while closing his eyes.
It was Wang Tian.
It has been a few years since Wang Tian entered this realm.
Rather than observing the realm from the outside, Wang Tian feels like traveling the realm on foot was much better. That way, he could personally see the scenery and the people directly.
Besides, Wang Tian would need approximately a few decades to completely familiarize himself with the Authority.
For anyone else, it might've been hundreds or thousands of years, or even millions!
Who knows how long for others... This was only possible since the previous owner of the Authority of the World was Heaven, and Heaven was Wang Tian's other self which was still a part of him.
And for the past few years, since Wang Tian arrived in this realm, he had been traveling throughout this mortal realm to pass the time.
Passing through towns, cities, and mortal kingdoms was a way for Wang Tian to get rid of the boring act of seclusion. It was like Wang Tian was doing a chore while watching tv or listening to music, his chore was familiarizing with the Authority while watching how the mortals lived their life in this realm.
And Wang Tian had a great time looking at the mortals going about their lives. He was once a mortal after all, and even though he never interacts with them, this feels like he was just watching a movie about ancient times.
As he walked through this mortal realm, Wang Tian was invisible to the people's eyes. For someone like him who could control the laws of the world, he was like a god for the mortals. Which he technically is since he created this world.
If he didn't allow anyone to see him, then no one will be able to see him. Not even the cultivators at the peak.
Because of that, Wang Tian's travel was not that eventful. Even if it was, it wasn't something worth noting, as he would then forget about it entirely.
Unknowingly, a few years had passed since the first time Wang Tian arrived, and his mastery over the Authority has been improving little by little.
One day, he sensed something from the laws of this realm.
Having his familiarity with the Authority increases, it amplifies his ability to control the laws of the world in any world under Heaven.
Previously, although Wang Tian could do whatever using the World Authority, there was some kind of limitation in what he could do. It was because he didn't know what he could actually do.
It's like he just suddenly got the position as the chairman of a company, at his own company!
It was his own company, but it had been running without him ever knowing how it actually runs.
And that's exactly what happened to Wang Tian.
He might be the owner of the company, but it was someone else who has been running the company to its current state. And now he could only slowly familiarize himself with the company. As he started to familiarize himself with the company's management, Wang Tian started to understand how the company, or in this case, how the world runs.
This time, when Wang Tian sensed the small disturbance in the laws of this realm, it brought him to this particular town. And he decided to settle down for a while, to wait and see what this disturbance is all about.
After talking with some locals, Wang Tian took over a small shop in this small town.
Time passes.
The first time Wang Tian notices the disturbance, it was only like a few small stones thrown in a calm lake. It was also after that small disturbance that he decided to check it out since he had no particular goal in the first place.
And as time passes, the disturbance in the laws was getting stronger.
Until finally...
Wang Tian was paying attention to the world of laws in another dimension when suddenly, a golden ray of light appeared amidst the surging laws and pierced through the dimension barrier of the world of laws heading straight to the sky of this mortal world.
Wang Tian watches this scene with curiosity as the golden ray of light gathered on top of this town. He was the only one who could see this phenomenon. Even the cultivators at the Soul Transformation stage wouldn't be able to see it. Immortals might sense it, albeit barely.
The golden light slowly gathered toward a certain area.
To a small house on the eastern side of the town.
Wang Tian finally moved after the golden light was gone from the sky.
After taking his time to walk there, Wang Tian soon heard the cry of a baby when he was near the house.
And as soon as Wang Tian entered the house, he went directly to the room where he heard the cry.
"M-My lady! P-Please wake up!"
As he walks closer, he could hear the midwife's flustered voice alongside the cry of the baby.
When Wang Tian opened the door to the bedroom, the midwife was shaking the lady on top of the bed while holding a baby in her arm.
The lady on the bed was relatively young.
Meanwhile, motes of light flow out from the head of the young lady that soon disappears into the void. After a few seconds, there were no more motes of light from the young lady.
Moments later, the midwife who had been trying to wake up the young lady started to realize that the young lady might already be dead and slowly stops her action.
As if she sensed something, the midwife turned in the direction of the door and sees Wang Tian standing motionless by the door while staring at the baby.
"S-Sir, are you the father?"
"I'm not." Wang Tian replied perfunctorily.
"Th-then..."
"Just a passerby."
As if hearing something ridiculous, the midwife was stunned for words.
"You don't know who the father is?" Wang Tian asked.
"I-I don't know. T-this young lady was n-new here. I-I don't even know w-where she came from. S-she arrived around a month ago."
The midwife was rather perplexed. She didn't know why this young man who claimed himself a passerby was here if he was not the father.
"What are you going to do with the baby?" asked Wang Tian again.
"I-I'm going to b-bring him to the orphanage."
"No need. I'll take care of him."
"S-Sir? A-Are you sure?"
"Yes."
The midwife hesitated for a while before she gave the baby to Wang Tian.
"Get some people to bury her."
"Y-Yes!"
"Do you know her name?"
"Her n-name... I-It was Liu Yan."
"Okay, you can go now."
As the midwife went out to get some other people, Wang Tian moves closer to the young lady's lifeless body while holding the baby who had fallen asleep.
Scanning her body, Wang Tian found a lot of hidden injuries. And although she was injured, she strengthened her stomach area with qi and life force to protect the baby she was carrying. As a result, the price was her life.
Looking around the bed, Wang Tian saw a golden token with the word Liu carved on it.
'Liu... clan token?'
Seeing the token with the Liu symbol on it, Wang Tian thought back to the time when he was in the capital of a kingdom.
The word Liu on the golden token was similar to the Liu clan in that kingdom.
As for the kingdom itself, it was ruled by the Liu clan.
