Chapter 6: Skydancer Exams (5)- Candidates

Only when the candidates heard the congratulation bot throw out a bunch of confetti did they realize that someone just reached the island.

"Who is it?"

Confused murmurs ran amok in the crowd as the candidates asked each other.

"Oh, that would be me."

Like there was some sort of magic involved, the area around the speaker cleared, revealing Alpha2's skinny figure, this kid was sneaky, fast, and had a freaky amount of strength to top it off. He was a perfect human child.

Some of the other sensible candidates sat down to think his abilities through, a lot proposed super speed, while others gave a bizarre suggestion that he had some sort of power that allowed him to teleport to someone he had touched.

"What are you guys thinking of?"

Alpha2 appeared behind some of the thinking candidates and asked, giving them the shock of their lives.

"Wahh!"

"Stop doing that kid!"

"Huh, what are you talking about? I've been here all along."

The candidates sighed knowing very well that they couldn't refute the statement.

"We were just trying to figure out your power!"

A black-haired candidate who appeared to be quite air-headed answered loudly, drawing the attention of others who were trying to recuperate.

"Goddammit, Ron, you have problems!"

Many of the candidates cursed angrily, ignoring the fact that Alpha2 was still in front of them. Alpha2 giggled joyously at this amusing situation.

"If you want to know so bad, I can just tell you,"

Alpha2 spoke in between giggles and said something that made everyone presently on Hugo's side freeze.

"Well, what is it?"

Someone took a deep breath and asked him expectedly.

"I am an Awakened, not an Evolutionary and my power is..."

"Get to the goddamn point!"

A young candidate with spikey brown hair yelled out, voicing out everyone's thoughts. The candidate was a man in his twenties who wore a white traditional Japanese robe, tied to his waist was a long samurai sword with a red hilt, decorated by two artificial skulls hanging onto the hilt.

"Calm down will you, Shiro!"

The person who spoke was wearing the same make kimono robe but in the colour blue and white instead of pure white. The robed man had sleek blue hair with squinty eyes that could barely showcase his radiant amber eyes. He also held a samurai sword that looked ready to taste blood.

This one very much seemed to be the more sensible one out of the two and tried to mellow out the one named Shiro to avoid the case of a fight breaking out.

"Stop it, I'm not gonna listen, Kenji! This kid is obviously bullshitting us!"

Kenji might have known that, but still chose to keep quiet just in case this kid wasn't really bullshitting them.

Upon closer observation, the Japanese teen with the fiery personality; Shiro was inwardly celebrating as he thought he just fooled everyone.

'Nice! Now the kid will feel pressured to tell us his power, now that I've taken my first swing.'

There were different types of people in the world according to Hugo. The first was the Annoyers: they talk too loud, make noise a lot, and bother the peace of the environment. A very apt description of people like that is Raoul Sutherland.

The second kind is the Reserved: don't talk too much, it's frustrating to be around these types of people if you do not share in their interests. An example of such a person is Hugo's very self.

Then there is the Cunning: they pretend to be one of the annoyers to gain more information on subjects that catch their interests. Hyena and Shiro fell into this category of people, and there was no hiding their characters under his watchful eye.

He very well noticed what Shiro was trying to do, and felt that it would not work.

Although most of the world's population were the three general kinds of people, a large percentage still existed as variants and sub-types. Alpha2 is one of those variants.

'He is somewhat of a mix between an Annoyer and a Reserved, he generally does not feel that anyone or anything can threaten him. Alpha2 is the kind of person who shows their will unconsciously, even before anybody said anything, I bet he was planning to explain his ability before he even discovered the others are trying to figure out...'

Hugo made swift deductions with his genius-like intellect and successfully predicted Alpha2's next move.

'... And so, it leads me to the conclusion that he will answer just as planned in five, four, three, two, one.'

Just as he finished counting backwards from five mentally, he heard Alpha2 begin to speak again.

"The name of my ability is Blink."

Without waiting for others to interrupt his explanation, Alpha2 continued.

"This ability allows me to traverse the void and pass from one location to another in an instant, as long as I have the fixed spatial coordinates within my mind, I can easily get to the place, and fixed coordinates are no longer needed as long as it is within my line of sight."

Alpha2 gave a brief explanation that explained everything; he thought the people were worthy enough to know.

'Wow, how great would it be to have a normal ability?'

Hugo silently fantasised about being normal when he suddenly heard exclamations from his and the other side of the ocean.

"What the heck is that?!"

"It looks like some sort of metal man, maybe an advanced AI placed within a human body?"

The speculations were directed towards an incoming ball coming towards them from the other side. The people made space for the projectile to land so they would have a clear view of whatever it was when it landed.

The candidates stood there for a few seconds waiting for the smoke to clear off and the congratulation bot to pop up. The smoke did clear, but the congrats bot still didn't pop up.

"Where's the bot?"

Alpha2 asked confusedly and voiced out everyone's thoughts.

"Oh, you mean this?"

There he was, the figure coming out of the smoke, holding demolished pieces of the bot.

PS: When I first introduced Alpha2, I didn't mention his age, so I went back to correct this mistake, he is fourteen years old.

This is sort of a candidate introduction chapter. I thought of making it when I realized that I made no mention of the other candidates a lot, so I made sure to put my brain cells on the line and think of more characters you can relate with, so as to make the reading experience more immersive.
