Chapter 2: Socked
In a blink of an eye she was gone... I saw her running as she disappeared in the rain where my eyes couldn't reach. I was left under the heavy rain deep in my thoughts fantasising about her . I came to my senses after a while then I realised I was under rain but there was no shelter near there where I could stay for a while until the rain pases. I dragged myself through the rain the umbrella didn't help me through the rain though, the rain still got me.
Just then I saw a pink book laying on the ground. She had left behind her book. I moved towards it and picked it up, it's hard pink cover protected the content inside. I put it inside my bag which was also wet but it was somehow safe inside there. I thought of going back to school but I was too far from it so I resorted to moving in the rain.
After a while the rain passed. I didn't mind I continued to move. Water had penetrated through my shoes and my feet were cold.
Finally I could see my house although it was kinda turning dark I swiftly matched and reached it. I unlocked the door quitely so that I wouldn't let mom see me. I entered quitely and removed my socked shoes and socks plus the somehow wet shirt and held them in my hand as I closed the door gently. I looked around the seating room and the dining but no sign of mom. The sitting room was the first then the dining room. You could see the dining room from the sitting room through the wide somehow round in the corners - passage. then the stairs which led to the bed rooms were on the right.
After looking around and seeing no sign of mom I tip toed and went up the stairs. I reached the small hallway and there was no sign of her, my room was in opposite direction to hers . I looked at the door of her bed room and it was closed. I felt at ease then quitely went to my room then entered the darkness inside hit me. I put down the wet shirt, socks and shoes I was holding and went to turn on the light ." Ahhh..." that's the sound I made after turning on the light and seeing mom seated in the corner of my room at the couch.
" Why have you come back late ? "she asked staring at me kinda of confused yet serious.
" And why are you wet ? "
" what are you doing here mom ? " I ignored her question.
" No you first. Why are you late ? " she gave me an intense look . I couldn't complete with that .
"I will answer all your questions but first let me remove these wet clothes before I catch an infection. " I said to her trying not to answer anything .
She said as she stood up "Ok. I will be waiting for you downstairs you have some explaining to do " she seemed unconvinced. As she left my room I sighed in relief . I removed the wet clothes.
Looking at the watch mom gave me it was socked and didn't work I removed and placed it at the table then went in the bathroom for a warm shower. The warm water from the shower made me feel warm and in love with the new house and new bedroom. After the shower I dried up then wore my PJs finally . I had taken a long time not wearing the . I remembered my bag . I reached for it and removed my stuff plus the pink book.
My mood worsened when I realized I might never see that girl again. But hey, I had her book it'd be a good start.
But first I had to take care of this problem about my mom.
I went downstairs to the dining only finding her eagerly waiting for me. I sat at the dining table facing her and before she could say anything .
" I lost my transport. . . so I had to move " were the words that came out of my mouth .
She looked at me then said.
" You could have called me to pick you up " .
I cooked up another lie in my head.
" Couldn't find a phone nearby " I quickly said .
" But why are you wet ? I gave you an umbrella " still confused she asked me.
" It didn't help help much "
" Fine. But next time call me I will pick you up." she said .
" And is the watch I gave you safe " she said narrowing her eyes .
" Yeah it's safe." I said it kinda sucked lying to mom but I had too.
"Good "she stood up going to the kitchen to make me food . Fortunately she trusted me otherwise she wouldn't have believed a word I said .
After eating the sweet food I went straight to my room after telling Mom goodnight . she didn't stop me although it was too early, she understood that I was very tired .
I went to my room and picked up the pink book. I opened it and on the first page I read the name Tess S. And right under it was Levi's High.
and then below Class B6.
My heart pounded from my chest and I felt happy. So she not only went to my school but also studied in my class. I had a good feeling about the next day.
