Chapter 3: New Family

As the marine ship reached the docking point they sprinted towards the town hoping to be able to find survivors, but the sad reality is that only one person survived this massacre. That person being Ryle. Now the one with the 'Rear Admiral' Cape came up to Ryle and spoke.

"Kid... how'd you survive..."

Although that may be a very irrational question to ask at this moment, it's understandable since nobody would think there would be a survivor throughout this entire land of bodies. Glancing at the bodies once again, Ryle looked at the Rear admiral with his gloomy eyes,

"I played dead."

This was the best excuse I could think of. Nobody would believe the pirates just decided to let me go or that I drove the pirates away, so this would probably be enough to trick them especially after I didn't even hesitate to say it. The person in front of Ryle looked at him with pity and cursed inwardly towards the people that did this.

"Oh... Karl! Get this kid some food and get him on the ship."

"Yessir!"

After the Rear admiral stared for a while he told his subordinate to help me onto the ship which he did. By the time I got on the ship, the inspection was pretty much over. Every house was pretty old already since we don't live on a big island and after the attack, they got even more broken down to the point where you can see the inside without entering the parameter.

"Where are we going to go and what's going to happen to me"

Although I'm thankful for this guy's help, I still want to gain some information on how things are going to work from here on out.

"We are going to my headquarters which is the G-3 and as for that second question, it's up to you."

"Up to me?"

"Do you have any relatives or family outside of that island?"

"Not really..."

"Then since you have no family and no place to go, you either find somewhere to live or help me out!"

"Help you out?"

I stared at him with a creeped-out face.

"Ugh I meant helping the marines out, you look old enough to start as a trainee right?"

"Isn't the requirements for joining 17 years of age? I'm only 16."

"Well normally yes but we can make an exception. Although you can wait until you're 17 first."

This was a hard decision, on one hand, it'd save time but on the other hand, I won't be ready for the training and it might make me fall behind others. What about the quest? System?

[Since the circumstances had changed, the quest can be altered in order to be suitable for current conditions. However, the future may also be altered due to this decision]

Future???? Is that a good or bad thing. I'd rather not risk it, training for 8 months is more beneficial than anything. Plus I'm still young and have plenty of time, I don't need to rush anything.

"I think I'll wait, I'm not really ready for it yet."

"Well that's a shame but I'll see you next year I guess, now for where you live..."

After staring at me for a handful of time he finally decided to talk.

"Do you want to live with me? I have a wife and a kid but I can handle another, I've always wanted a son, and.... oh but if you aren't willing then that's fine!"

I looked at him in surprise. I didn't think he would try to adopt a kid he met less than an hour ago. He seems a little naive and loud but he's not a bad guy. I don't have any other place to go and if he reports my situation then the best outcome would be me getting adopted or allowed to live with some other people. I think I'd rather live with someone on the strong side so taking his offer might not be so bad.

"Hm, I don't mind but... why are you so quick to try and help me?"

"I saw a kid, just like you this one time, and I decided not to help and leave him to other people. Let's just say it didn't end the way I wanted it to."

He said as he looked at the sea with eyes of despair. He must've lost a kid he could've saved, that makes a little more sense.

"Well, this time you saved a kid so feel a little bit better. Thanks."

As I said that I turned to also look at the sea while he turned around with wide eyes clearly stating that he wasn't expecting me to open up to him. He then patted one of my shoulders and continued to chat with me until we reached his headquarters.

"Let's report this first and then I'll bring you to my house where you'll be staying"

I nodded and we went inside the biggest building on the island, the procedure was pretty complicated as I was the only witness and survivor so they asked me a couple of questions and even shouted at me at times. However, after a while, they stopped and let the Rear admiral take me. Actually, what's this guy's name, I don't want to keep calling him 'guy' or 'rear admiral'

"Hey uh, what's your name?"

"Oh me? It's Akehende but call me Ake, what about you!"

Once again, he's a little too loud.

"I'm Ryle."

"Ryle huh, well welcome to the family!"

Just as we finish speaking we reached his house and entered. It wasn't anything special but it was definitely better than my old house. It was cleaner but maybe that's because we never had any guests over at my old house. Walking into the house we were greeted by a dark long-haired lady that had an apron on.

"Oh Good evening! You must be the new member of our family!"

She must be the wife, she's just as loud. They are compatible. Looks like Ake told them about me already. They are... so accepting.

"Hello, nice to meet you. Thank you for accepting me."

While bowing towards Ake's wife and now my new family member, a noise came from the deeper section of the house. A tall figure with the same dark hair as Ake's wife and was very beautiful if anything.

"Mom!!!! Where's my underwear?"

"Rachel! Stop being disrespectful and come greet the guest!"

I'm guessing that's Ake's kid and now my sibling. She's also just as loud.

"OH, HEY! Nice to meet you, I'm Rachel hahaha."

"Nice to meet you, I'm Ryle."

Ake's wife whose name is Sarah was cooking dinner while Rachel was still finding her underwear. Ake and I began discussing my future plans and how things would work out. He had a spare room next to Rachel's since they were planning to have another kid but now I came along and took that spot, sorry little one. During dinner, we were interacting but they did the most talking since they had very expressive personalities. Looking at them arguing, laughing, and talking, they may seem a bit weird and be excessive, but... this isn't too bad.

After dinner, I directly went to shower and sleep. I was exhausted, not just physically but mentally. A lot of stuff has been going on and it has been very overwhelming, but I'd be lying if I said I wasn't excited for tomorrow since I will start training.

---The following morning---

A figure was standing in Ake's yard doing some basic warmup exercises.

"System, what do I need to do in order to 'train' my body?"

That figure naturally being Ryle, was doing some normal warmups in order to begin the actual training which will help with the mission.

[As the User is already somewhat fit, I recommend doing basic exercises that will strengthen your body even more, while learning combat or skills in order to improve other aspects]

"Oh yeah, there were skills. Although the drawback of purchasing skills may be harsh, this is better than not knowing any attacking or combat-oriented skills. I would ask Ake but he'd probably tell me to just join the marine trainee application"

So I just need to purchase a skill suitable for me. First I need to finish my exercises or else I won't even be able to handle or use my skills properly. After a few hours of constant exercises such as pushups, pullups, squats etc. I finally reached the point of collapsing, now should be a good time to purchase a skill in order to analyze it and see where my path on combat should go to.

"Open Skill Shop."

[Skill Shop Available! Current Skills Available: 3]

CREATORS' THOUGHTS
KhadaFourJhin KhadaFourJhin

Thanks for reading. The Rear admiral Ake is actually a character in one piece however his wife and kid aren't and I made them up in order to further the plot. I don't plan on just sticking to the original story and just have the MC be there and watch, I plan on making the MC change the plot in a more refreshing way. As always leave suggestions and thoughts on how to further the story, I'm open to opinions :)
