Chapter 2: Chapter 1: New life

Casandra woke up in a strange world. It was no way alike to the one she has lived in the past twenty-five years of life. But not an unwelcome change for her to live with.

First things first, this world is called Pangea. It has a long history of many human civilizations, both recorded and unknown ones in its history. At some point of time, a society similar to the one she used to live once existed. Later it disappeared and transformed into the current society they all lived in now.

To say she was gratified with the degree of freedom her current life has now is an understatement. She was more thankful and happy than she once was. Everything could have been perfect if her siblings and her prince were here.

But alas, one must not be greedy with what they have. She missed them dearly, but ultimately one is bound to leave in some way or another. It was that she left far earlier than they liked.

Perhaps the thing that has brought her endless happiness in this new life was that she is no longer cursed. Although her life is far from what she was used to, she is happy nevertheless that her life is relatively normal here. That other than having the wealth and status, she is missing nothing else in life.

In here she was the only child of a hardworking couple. They cherish her as dearly as they could. Giving her the best of everything they can provide her.

It took her a while to adjust to her life here.

Cassandra woke up in a room with white wall. There were strange apparatuses attached to her. Her whole body felt so weak that even moving her fingers needed a huge amount of energy to do so.

She did not have any memory of the body she was in at first, but from what she was told it was in some sort of accident. Though from the descriptions told to her, she thinks it was far from a simple accident. A thing she did not say as there is little evidence to prove her conjunctions.

The parents of her current body were very depressed upon seeing she did not recognize any of them. They blame her accident for making her forget who they are to her. Grief stricken yet happy with her still alive and talking with them.

Her hypothesis of her accident being not really an accident was confirmed when she heard some argument outside her ward and the transfer of residence upon her discharge. They did not allow her to meet anyone outside the doctors and them.

She spent a year rehabilitating to be able to move as she liked. Her whole body was so weak as she had apparently spent a year and half in a coma. Her awakening was considered a miracle as even her doctor has decided she can no longer wake up.

Other than rehabilitating, she was also under homeschooling to catch up with the years she was not able to attend school. Her parents were planning to make her take a test to skip some levels and directly enroll her to college. A sound plan that she herself approves of.

She was a fast learner before and in this life it does not change now. She passed the test and was given a go signal to be allowed to be admitted to college. She was introduced by her parents to a myriad of courses she could take, in the end she chose a secretarial course. It was a little similar to the one she used to do to her prince, so she is more comfortable to do something like this for a career.

She was then admitted to the best school nearby that offers that course. There she met her new friends then turned best friends Alexia Kelps and Serio Salazar. They are friendly people who are in performance and business courses respectively.

They were sweet people who had treated her well and cared for her. Their first meeting might not be the best, but they shared both sadness and happiness all the year they shared together. Bonds are strong even with the short time they are together.

It was an out of town trip when she suddenly had a nostalgic dream. It was about the goddess she was devoted to. The defender of the afflicted and the light of those who lost.

Even here she still worships her. Once a maiden of the goddess, she will forever be one. Life and death matters not as the goddess always rewards her followers.

And most of all the goddess never forgot to appear whenever her followers needed her the most.

The goddess smiled warmly at her and told her that her new life was paid for by others. That she needs not to be melancholic as those who cared and loved her does not want her to be sad. Even her goddess wishes not to see her heartbreaking expressions whenever she hears and sees her alone.

"I am not sad, my lady." Cassandra said as a lone tear slid down her cheeks.

Pale hands reached out to her and comforted her yearning soul. Cassandra is happy, only that she longed for her loved ones with her. Was it wrong that she wishes to share her current happiness with them?

Humans are selfish creatures and she wants more than what she already has. The goddess understood this characteristic of hers and let out a kind smile.

"....perhaps it is both wrong and not. For you my devoted follower I will give you one saving grace for your aching soul. Sing a song of your heart and everything will be fine afterwards." Was the goddess said before she woke up.

Cassandra's cheeks were wet when she woke up. Perhaps the advice of the goddess has broken the fragile walls she has created for her not to fully break down. That her exhaustion, heartaches and pains from the past life needs to be released at one point.

So she went out to her balcony. The moon was shining brightly tonight as the stars accompanied it in the clear night skies. So clear that it evokes many memories and emotions before her heart.

The rest house they are in is a peaceful little community with decent spaces away from each occupant. They are the nearest of the seaside where a small walk is only needed to reach the sea. At this time of the night, there are little to no people outside and it is very quiet as the moon that is overlooking in the skies above.

Feeling so suffocated with built up emotions inside of her, she came down and walked in the seaside. The wind was welcoming her like they were awaiting for her to come over. The waters glow blue as they slam into the shore with the silent moon and its companion stars oversee everything.

Without thinking she began singing the first and final tune she sang back then. The lyrics are not understood by the people here. But to her it is as clear as the still waters of the serene wells of ancient times. Calm and solemn as a precious vow to those who hear it.

"In a palace of gold

Luxurious and Splendid

Walls are cold and barren

Only light was a cruel sun..."

Cassandra's mind flashes images of the lone boy at the huge and cold manor. Surrounded by people, yet lonely as a man on an island. Family that doesn't seem like a family. A father who cared not of him and sees him as torn on his eyes.

" 'Twas you came to me

Full of brilliant flame

With you here, no silence

No more I am alone…"

When she came to live with him as his companion, she saw the wonder and dependence he had on her. He carved and cherished her as her only friend and close person.

"The skies were clear and blue

Sunshine came warm and blithe

My house now alive

For you're here with me…."

These days they spend so freely like a child they should. She minded not her curse nor did he care about it. Childish days only made possible by their presence with each other..

"Dark and unfeeling ordeals

Torrid storms of my home

Fleeting affections and my realities

You kept me well and sane…."

But sunny days also come to an end. The foolish king carelessly waged war. He sent her prince away on the pretext that as his son, he should contribute for their country. Though it was said like that, everyone knew that he was sending the young prince to die.

At that time she vowed to wait for him and take care of their home.

"Forever I wished for us

Eternity I prayed to the above

Chains of fate tie our lives

Hope they give us their blessings…."

Then marriage talks came by when he returned. Due to how inappropriate it will be if she still stays near him as a female, she decides that she has to stay away. A normal and beautiful woman of great standing is worthy beside him.

Not a cursed woman who cannot be seen in public.

"Golden throne for your seat

Peerless gems at your crown

Fame and humanity's envy

I promise at our matrimony ...."

Then she felt the regrets of leaving him. Staying away only to expose him to danger. Letting him so open to many dangers she could just prevent by staying near him. All because of her, all the glory that he should enjoy is forfeited as death was looming upon him.

".....To you the world I offer

For your smile the crown I wear

A single song of promise

I seal my all to thee…."

Cassandra never thought of the lyrics when she first received the song. She just thought it was only given to her for keepsake for his future wife.

But with everything that happened in that life. She now knew it was only for her. That he was serious about the childish promise he used to utter to her.

"...One day I will be someone with status and wealth. When that time comes, I want you to be the one beside me as you are now."

She continued to sing all her heartaches not minding if people will hear her tunes of sadness. Her voice rang clear and wide in the quiet neighborhood and of the unending seas. Giving a taste of nostalgia and melancholia tonight for all who are hurting and alone.

Far away from where she is, a pair of amethyst eyes woke up and looked in a certain direction with a smile on their face. They looked so happy as they too took part in the lone tune. His lyrics were a little different, yet it carried the same tune and same promise. Only with darker emotions full of heartaches, longing, and mad obsession of the subject they wanted to see and touch.
