Chapter 42: Chapter 42: Fireworks

Turns out we didn’t have time for anything else, because Carl knocked on the door a few minutes later to tell Rick he was needed downstairs. I decide that a long, hot bath would be a good idea so I could relax and process the day before I have to walk into the wolf’s den.

I take my time getting ready and the results are worth it. I look at myself in the mirror, make some final tweaks to my hair and makeup, and then I’m ready to go. I open the door to see Carl dressed nicely in a suit and tie and I compliment him on his appearance.

“Thank you, Ms. Raven,” he mumbles and looks away from me.

“What gives, Carl? Are you mad at me?” I ask him.

“No! Of course not. I just thought you might be mad at me, for what I said to the Alpha. I know you’re an independent woman and you fight your own battles…” he says cryptically.

“What are you talking about?” I ask.
