Chapter 13: Wandering Chain

Sprinting through the desert and into the grassland, Errit saw many things that caught his attention. He would sometimes collect them as he passed, but for the most part he didn't get anything he had already collected a few of. There were limits to hoarding materials, especially if he found that there was a limit to the space inside of the ring. 'What would happen if it was completely full, would it just now work, or would it even expel and or consume an item to accommodate the new addition?'

Many things went through his mind while he was running, his legs felt lighter the longer he ran, it was like they were constantly growing stronger with each bounce of his soles.

The experiences with birds he had so far had left him confused. Twice he could have lost his life to something that gave no warning as it hunted, nothing but a shadow. Twice, he had narrowly escaped by tripping in the muddied waters of a rivers edge. Twice he had almost died.

"I gotta learn how to use more of that ability." Errit was thinking about the grass, the growing tree, the Moonflower. "The Goddess of the Waters." Speaking its name, he hoped to invoke it's presence. There was no such reaction.

"Grow!" he shouted at a flower.

"grow...grow...grow...grow...Grow...Grow Grow, GROW GROW GROW GROW!" Errit tried it on dozens of plants. There was no visible reaction.

Staring at his hands through the mask he concentrated his own aura, then placed them in the dirt below the sapling and continued chanting.

'Grow' Both inside his mind and with his mouth, he kept the mantra going. He closed his eyes and tried to feel his surroundings.

Success.

He opened his eyes after feeling a drain on his body, it felt like he was hungry, but his stomach didn't growl.

"What are those?" Errit's eyes opened, however he didn't stop at the large bush in front of him.. he panned his vision around and saw that all the seeds in the soil had sprouted, plants were growing so close and thick together that they started tumbling out of the soil.

Every plant had grown to a full ripe plump state. They were great examples, excellent specimens, and full of flowers, fruits and more seeds.

Errit hadn't seen many of the plants that were popping out, an abundance of them were completely foreign in shape and smell to anything he had seen from Earth. Much like the Tree he had slept in a for few days, the fruits were all ripe and ready for picking. He took everything with a smile on his face. The Tree Fruits were tasty but there was a limit to how often someone could eat them.

"This is amazing." Errit started concentrating as he walked.

Small gardens started popping up as he strode. It was draining to do, but he felt like it would help him understand his ability more. Either way, he was collecting a lot of plants and many of them looked edible, which made him happy.

Then, he ran across a root that wouldn't go into the storage ring. It grew and lurched in his direction, wrapping itself around his body. 'The fuck' He started to worry, the root started to squeeze. It wasn't able to do any damage but it clung to him, unwilling to release itself. He pulled at it and tried to throw it away. The root caught a rock and returned to his hand and tightened around his wrist. After a while, its stopped growing and started producing a sweet aroma. The root stopped tightening and refused to let go, Errit threw it a few times.

It kept coming back, Its inability to penetrate his body didn't stop the root from clinging to him. Errit looked like a he had ropes tied around his body, his odor became sweet. Bugs started to take notice and some larger ones started to appear. The smell was attracting them.

Errit swatted the smaller ones down, but when they became the size of birds he started to worry. One came very close to his body, the root grabbed at it, crushed it and pulled it into its root system. A small lump remained for a moment then dissipated. 'I wonder if it eats everything that's alive.'

He threw it out again, this time in the direction of one of the bugs. It caught it and came back to his wrist like it had done many times already.

'Haha..Marvelous.' "Eat your heart out Parker." Errit started playing around, grabbing auras from the air with the root, it swallowed a great many things and brought plenty back to his hand. A few times he threw it at herbs, occasionally it devoured them as well so he tried to stop himself from throwing it out in their direction.

He kept collecting whatever he could find. A Spring nearby caught his attention when a fish leapt out of the water. It was a few days ago that he had last had meat, the fruits and vegetables were great but it was no exchange for the sweet taste of meat. Errit threw the root out to catch one of the fish, but it ate it. 'Fuck. Okay, what about this?' Pulling out the ice spear, he tied the root around it a few times and threw it with minimal force at the next fish.

"Bullseye" The fish was skewered and dragged back by the spear. 'I can work with this.'

For the rest of the day, he sat by the spring. Repeatedly, he threw the spear at a tree he had marked with an X. He needed the practice. Too much chaos around him meant he would have to defend himself properly, running would only work for so long.
