Chapter 6: The First Reward

Hufff… huffff…. huffff

'I… forgot… how much… I hate… running…' After taking the elevator down ten floors, Lukas walked out onto the street through the main doors of his apartment building. His neighborhood wasn't crime ridden or anything, but it definitely wasn't the nicest one out there. After stretching for a bit, Lukas took off at a jog planning on doing half his running first and the other half back to his apartment later. Much to his dismay though, even being transported back into his eighteen year old body did nothing for his physical fitness. He had always been the skinny ripped kid his whole life, he never had to work out but his body looked good regardless. It was only after looking at the quest counter, did he realize just how out of shape he was.

'Quest log'

100 sit-ups (0/100)

100 squats (0/100)

Run 5 miles (1.76/5)]

After running a bit more, Lukas finally got to Acorn Park. Having pulled out the GPS on his phone before he left, he looked for a park that was close to the halfway point on his run. Amazingly, Acorn Park happened to be 2.46 miles away from his apartment. Lukas finished out the last .04 miles, by running around the park once. After finally hitting his mark, Lukas fell over in the grass, arms and legs spread wide, panting like a dog in 105° weather. 'If I have to do this every day, I'm going to die before I even get anywhere in the game.' He chuckled a bit before he started coughing because he didn't have enough air in his lungs to laugh.

Lukas lay there for a few more minutes, using the time to catch his breath and slow his heart rate down a bit. 'Okay, so I know I won't be able to do 100 push-ups at one time, so how about I do 20 of each exercise, then start the list over once I get to the bottom. Yeah, that sounds like the best plan.' Lukas pulled up the quest log and rolled over. He started to do 1 push-up and when he finished it, he looked at the quest counter. 'Uh, why didn't it go up?' The number of push-ups that were counted was still 0. 'Maybe I'm not going low enough…' Lukas tried another one but this time let his elbows bend 90° before he pushed himself up. Much to his delight, he watched the counter tick up to 1/100. 'So, they can't be half-assed push-ups, they have to be like perfect push-ups for them to count. Okay, I can do that.'

Once Lukas finished his push-ups he rolled over, and started his sit-ups, he had to experiment with these also, because the system only counted the ones with his hands behind his head, and his feet couldn't leave the ground. He also basically had to touch his chin to his knees, because apparently he wasn't sitting up enough. Lukas didn't make the same mistake on the squats, he made sure that his butt cleared his knees when he squatted down. Slowly but surely, Lukas chipped away at the numbers on the quest. After he had finally finished, over two hours later, he looked at his quest counter one more time.

[Daily Quest: Grow Stronger

100 push-ups (100/100)

100 sit-ups (100/100)

100 squats (100/100)

Run 5 miles (2.52/5)

'Great, all that's left is the run. My favorite part.' The sarcasm dripped from his comment in his own head. 'I wonder if a treadmill would work for this. Guess I'll have to try it at the gym someday.' After preparing himself mentally, he took off jogging around the park, before heading back towards his apartment. About a half-mile away from his apartment he heard the now familiar female voice.

[Daily Quest Complete]

[Check inbox for rewards]

Though he heard it, he continued to run till he hit the front of the street right in front of his apartment. He continued to stand this time though, and kept his arms above his head like he had seen runners do on TV. Much to his surprise, it actually helped far more than lying on the ground. Once his breathing calmed down, he decided to check his rewards.

'Open inbox.'

[You have one unread message]

'Claim rewards.'

Lukas didn't have to actually open the message that said "Daily Quest Rewards," just like in Proelium. All he had to do was open the mailbox and he could claim any unopened rewards in there with a simple thought.
