Chapter 3: Chapter 3

The stream below grows larger and larger, soon turning into a small river.

The sound of rushing water gets louder but still negligible.

I lower my wings and flap them as I approached the earth below.

Extending my paws, I run along the ground floor as my wings slow the momentum from my flying.

Nearly tripping, I land safely beside the river beside me.

I look up and observe the surrounding area from where I am.

Usually, animals won't attack near a water source as starting a conflict in a place where other animals could intefere would just be stupid.

But considering that I was in a foreign world, I wouldn't know if it was the same here.

I once more take a drink from the water.

When I first started flying, I had jumped off from a tall tree branch. Gliding in the air and occasionally flapping my wings higher.

Flying until the moon noticeably moved. I was exhausted when I landed on the ground.

The feeling of flight excited me and filled me with adrenaline and after the rush subsided, I felt exhausted.

Getting entranced in the adrenaline is a rookie mistake. What if something attacked after you were tired?

After following downstream, the overgrowth lessened and was like a normal forest, though the colors were still a bit off.

The flora lessened as I went down the river until there were no more, other than the little weeds.

From above, I could see some small mice or an occasional rabbit den, there was one located a bit further up the river.

My stomach was growling. The hunger wasn't anything new as I had starved for days on end back on Earth but my newborn body was still growing.

More fragile.

After getting a quick drink, I stretch my wings, which were aching badly.

Moving my paws, I jump into the forest once more, focusing my senses, searching for some prey.

I wasn't that aversed to eating food raw.

After all, how would I even cook it?

Cooking my food in the wild is just begging for stronger animals to come to me.

Maybe even a human would come if there were any.

Dispersing my chaotic mind of its thoughts I refocus my senses to the forest.

Grass brushed against my chest as I lower my body.

Thump

Thump

Thump

A steady beat vibrated through the earth below.

Lifting my nose, I catch a scent, one that makes me salivate.

Mouse.

The small brown fur that peeked in between the grasses was dulled a little, as it was still nighttime.

My breathing stopped. Every muscle froze at the sight of prey.

I move a bit forward, careful not to alert the small rodent.

After getting within a meter of the mouse, which was nearly as big as me, I wait no longer and leaped on it.

The mouse, which was eating a piece of grain looked up with wide eyes.

Immediately after seeing me, it tried to run but I had already gotten on top of the rodent.

Opening my maw wide, I sink my teeth into the mouse's neck.

Blood seeped into my mouth. The metallic taste wasn't the best in my mouth but my stomach said otherwise.

Ripping out a piece of flesh from the rodent's neck, it lets out a squeal.

'Other animals may be attracted to the scent of blood and the scream just now. I should hurry up.'

Thinking along those lines, I once more bite into its neck, and this time I put more pressure onto it.

Snap.

A crack can be heard as the mouse goes limp.

I drag the mouse with my tail, running off deeper into the overgrowth.

Once I am under a large bush, I slow to a stop and look back at my prey.

Feeling no disgust and letting hunger get the best of me, I dig into the dead rodent.

It was a bit fat, and very satiating, as its size was nearly as big as mine.

I barely get to eat a quarter of it when I no longer feel hungry.

Not knowing what to do with the rest of the food, I leave the freshly dead body there and leap onto the tree branches.

The dark lime leaves provide a natural cover from ariel predators and with my current size, it's easy to hide above the branches, which also blocks the view of me from below.

Curling into a croissant, my paws tucked in as my tail wraps around my body. Wings shielding me from the cold breeze.

Although the moon has nearly begun setting, I must rest this child body of mine.

Plus, wasn't there something about children needing to sleep for at least 10 hours a day?

My thoughts end there as the drowsiness and fatigue catch up to me.

I guess the shock of being reincarnated in another world hasn't settled yet.
