"There are going to be people after me. You two should stay here. The townspeople won't know that you knew about me and will think that I tricked you two. It'll be safer like this" I told the girls
Vivante shook her head "I'm going with you. To your home town, Sud"
"No. The people there will know who I am instantly. I don't know if I'll be able to keep you safe there" I told her
"He's right. Vivante, you're pregnant. You shouldn't be traveling." Kind said
"But I don't want you to go alone!" Vivante yelled
I pulled her close to me and said "I'll be back. Don't worry"
"You mean we" she said
I shook my head.
"We'll go together. I don't want to be apart from you for so long" she cried
I didn't say anything to that. I wasn't sure when I would be back and I didn't want to give her false hope.
We waited in the woods in case people stormed into the house. When the girls fell asleep, I snuck away and went back to Sud.
How I wish, I would have taken Vivante back with me to Sud. Even if it were dangerous. Because when I came back two years later, Vivante was already dead.
I traveled back into Recht through the same woods that I went through six years ago. I made my way to the house that I lived my happies years in.
I knocked on the door and waited for Vivante to open the door as she carried our should be one and a half child in her arms. But instead, Kind opened the door. Her hair was long and matted and her eyes looked emotionless. She stared at me for a while before asking "Took you long enough"
I tried looking behind her into the house "Where's Vivante?" I asked
She shrugged "Dead"
I froze. My head spun and my heart started beating wildly in my chest.
"W-what do you-"
"She's dead."
"How…?" I asked
"A few weeks after you left." She said
My knees buckled and I fell to the ground.
"Explain" I said
"The day after you left, some people came looking for you. They tried making us tell them where you went. They were being rough on her so I told them she was pregnant. Pretty stupid, huh?" She sighed "They figured out that the baby was yours and said she was infected and carrying a parasite. They made her drink something to 'purify' her and a few days later, she collapsed. Your turn."
I looked up at her. "My turn?" Does she intend to kill me?
"Explain to me what took you so long. Why didn't you come back sooner" she said with a hard voice
"I-" my voice cracked. "I didn't want to come back so soon and put you guys in danger. I should've come back sooner"
My eyes were overflowing with tears and my hands shook badly.
"I should've come back sooner. If only I could've-"
Kind interrupted me "It wouldn't have mattered if you came a year earlier or even before she was poisoned. We would have been hunted no matter what"
She was much younger than I but these last couple of years really changed her. She now knows just how cruel our world really is by experience. Which is what I wanted to protect her and Vivante from for all these years.
She started to close the door but I held it open. "Wait!"
"Just leave" she said "I'll help you whenever you need but I don't think you should continue living here anymore."
"I understand and I'm sorry" I said and turned back to the woods.
"Finir" Kind said from the doorway
I turned back "What?"
"Before Vivante died, she had already given the baby a name." She asked and closed the door.
Walking back through the woods, I realized just how much it's changed. The saplings were now growing into large trees and the older trees were now rotting. I stopped next to a lake and saw myself for the first time in a long time.
My green roots were peaking through the cheap black hair dye. I plunged my head into the lake and scrubbed as much of the dye off as I could get. From now one, no more hiding. Whether I die or not is up to Lady Luck now. I don't care anymore.
I brought my scythe out and wondered if the baby would have had the scythe as well. I guess, it's like I have a part of him with me.
"Soon after, I went back to live in Sud for another year before I met you guys." I told the other weapons as Estrella calls us.
Estrella had her mouth hung open, Luna and Cielo were crying rivers together as Gun tried to comfort them.
"I…I don't know what to say to that" Estrella said
"I'm so sorry you had to go through that!" Luna yelled
"You! Your life is so pathetic!" Cielo cried out
Alright now, that's going too far.
"But thank you for sharing with us" Estrella continued
"Alright" I said "Someone else can go"
Estrella raised her hand and said "My name is Estrella Márquez. I am the princess of Kardas and until a few weeks ago, I loved a happy and boring life"
"Copy and paste!" Cielo yelled out
I shrugged.
Luna went next. "My name is Luna Bachlynn and I am the princess of the kingdom Kalkan"
"Since we've all introduced ourselves…kinda. We can-" Gun started before he was interrupted by Kind.
She ran up to us through the woods and said "All of you need to leave. Now"
