Chapter 4: Chapter 3 Big Sur

Everything was silent. I wasnt sure how long time had passed where everybody just sat there in shock. It could have been days, weeks, monthsin reality, it was only a few seconds.

A deep growl rumbled up from his throat, and he pushed me straight to him. Mine. He repeated. Mine, mine, mine.

His eyes were focused on me, and it was obvious I was the only thing he could see. And while that made me feel loved and wanted, I didnt feel the same.

I could feel the stares of everyone on us. I could imagine the rogues in entire disbelief and the packs in utter betrayal.

Inside, I was happy. Theres no way to deny it. But on the outside, I was horrified that my mate was a rogue. And the Alpha, at that.

Yes, yours. I whispered sub-consciously. This obviously made him happy, for his lips relaxed into a small smile.

You have no idea how long Ive been waiting for you. Years and years. Now that I have you, Im not letting you go, mate.

His voice sent chills through my bones; it was the best feeling imaginable. Deep, huskywhat every she-wolf wants in her mate.

I felt a moan build up deep, deep inside of me. It wasnt coming from me, though. It was coming from something inside of me.

This was my inner wolf, I realized. They call it a wolf because its your inner instinct that will direct you to more primal things. It only emerges when you find your mate, so I was sure this was it.

Especially since the inner feeling wanted me to stay with this man permanently.

The handsome Alpha turned from me to his beta. I felt unwanted for a brief moment, before I chastised myself. He just expressed how much he wanted you. I tried to assure myself. Dont act so childish.

And it seemed my thoughts were correct. Whats her name? He asked.

The beta replied quietly, Delilah Ann Moore.

The Alpha faced me again and smiled. Wonderful. Janice, He motioned to a rogue off to the left of us. Take Delilah to the car, will you? Ill be there in a moment, I just need to finish business.

His words snapped me out of my daze and I pulled back from him. No. Im not going anywhere with you if youre going to execute this plan.

His black eyes became a shade darker and he snarled at me. The nice-guy attitude was gone. Actually, you are going somewhere. Youre going straight to the car, where I will join you after my plans are finished. Then, well go to the base. And youre going to do exactly what I told you.

I dont think so, Alpha. In case you havent gotten the 4-1-1, Im not doing anything I dont want to do. And you cant make me. You cant force me to your pack house, and you cant make me yours.

I could hear Lianas quiet Ooh, burn! in the back of my mind, but I hardly registered it. All I noticed was those dark, angry, evil eyes that glared right at me.

No rogue is good. Why hadnt I remembered that? The Alpha wasnt going to stop his attack because of me.

You really think I cant make you mine? How much do you want to bet? The Alpha challenged. Ill mark you right here and now if I want to. You wouldnt be able to prohibit me from what I want What are you? A delta? Do you really think you could stop me?

The delta part was low. It was extremely rude to bring up rank in a conversation. Even worse, it was infinitely embarrassing to mention that in front of two packs and the rogues.

You can mark me, but you can never make me love you.

Things had obviously taken a turn for the worst, but an attack against my pack was an attack against me. And an attack against me was . . . well, you can see the results.

Mr. Alpha growled loudly. He put a warning hand on my shoulder. Listen up, little girl. You should watch your words, because they may betray you one day. You dont have to love me. I dont need that. But you at least need to follow my orders and be a good Luna. Capisce?

The Alpha didnt wait for my reply, but instead barked orders to his group. Lily, John, Everetttake Delilah to the car. Make sure she stays in the car. Matthewtoss me that phone. Im the one making threats today. The rest of youmake sure none of the pack members escape or try to free Delilah.

Alpha Anton didnt give me a second glance. He took the phone from his beta and started typing in my Alphas phone number. I attempted to swipe it from him, but a femaleLily, I believedheld me back.

No! I protested loudly. Put me down!

She laughed quietly. I dont think so. Sorry.

Two others joined her in forcing me to the car. I heard a few snickers and a few laughs, but most people held in their emotions. Almost everyone was listening to the phone in anticipation.

I, too, was listening to the phone. Yes, my main priority was escaping the baboons, but I also harbored a wicked curiosity as to what was happening.

Unfortunately, I was shoved inside of the car before I could hear anything. The door was shut on me, despite my protests. I could only get a general idea of what was happening by looking through the dark, thick windows.

The Rogue Alpha said a few things to the person on the phone presumably, one of our two Alphas and faces turned to horror. What had he said?

After waiting many agonizing minutes, the Alpha clicked off the phone. He smiled arrogantly, waved good-bye to the two packs, and walked over to the car. Then Anton climbed in next to me I was on the passenger side and sped away.

Hey! I slapped him on the arm. Where do you think youre taking me?

Home base. Where else?

Im not going anywhere with you. I hissed through clenched teeth.

How funnyyou really think you have a choice. Nobody is going to stop me, and I easily over-power you. He retorted.

What are you talking about? My pack will fight for me. I may just be a delta, but my pack has never let a member go.

You, my dear, are wrong. Your pack is now my pack, just as the Red Wind Pack is now my pack. Want your pack to rescue you from me? Wont be happening, because theyre my pack, and they follow my orders.

What the hell? Are you out of your mind? My pack is not a bunch of vile, ill-tempered, disgusting rogues. I spat at him.

He laughed. It was a beautiful, dark laugh that echoed across the car. Spare me your insults, will you? Were better than you think. And yes, your pack is a bunch of rogues. It had a lot to do with that phone call I just made. Alphas will snap easily if you threaten to kill their children and everyone in their local high school.

They agreed to join you in exchange for lives? How beautiful. I snorted.

Poetic, isnt it? He asked rhetorically. Now all your territory is mine and all your members are vile rogues.

Youre repulsive. Its going to be hell being your mate.

He chuckled bitterly and gripped the wheel a bit tighter. And by a bit, I mean the wheel looked as if it was being choked to death Its only been a few minutes and youre already cursing my name? I feel so loved.

I didnt know what to say. I had a few comebacks, but I withheld them. His bitterness conveyed to me a message I wished I didnt understand.

We were silent for an hour or so until we finally arrived at the big building. So, this is your pack house? I asked politely. I had the sensation of treading on water after his last sentence.

Sort of. Its where we deal our business. All housing is separate. That way its harder to attack us, because were all spread out. His voice was cool and calm. He, too, was walking on glass.

Before I could reply, he jumped out of the car. With the grace of a gentleman, he paced to my side and opened my door for me.

I took in the shady forestry around me. It was nothing like my pack, where most of the land was hot and dry. The trees, the whisper of wind, and the serene atmosphereall were so much more beautiful and amazing than anything Id ever experienced before.

Where are we? I asked in awe.

He smiled. Do you like it? Were in California, right at little town called Big Sur. Its one of the most gorgeous places on the planet.

Were in California? How did we get from my pack to your base so quickly? Nevada seems like it must be a bit off from here.

It is. Big Sur is just on coastline of California. It has the forest, the cliffs, the mountains, and the beach all in one. Crazy, isnt it? But to answer your question, I drive at incredibly high speeds. A hundred-something miles an hour.

I raised my eyebrow at him. Youre lucky we didnt crash.

Our casual talk must have softened him up, for the corners of his mouth turned up ever-so-slightly. I suppose. Do you want me to show you around?

Sure. If youre going to be keeping me here, might as well learn my way around the place, I added as an after thought.

He led me to the building and motioned to certain windows, pointing out what the rooms were. That part was pretty boring. How was I to care which room was restroom and which was a discussion room?

When we moved on from the base, he gestured to a house. You might want to remember that one. Its my house, and soon it will be yours.

But what if I dont want to live with you?

And that way, He pointed down a trail. Leads to one of the best bakeries in America. It goes by the name of Big Sur Bakery. We have some wolves who work there, so sometimes we get small discounts on our food.

I walked a few steps down the trail. My intent was to go down to the bakery, but a hand stopped me on my shoulder.

Before you go down, you should know your limits. The farthest I want you to go unaccompanied is Big Sur Bakery. Dont go anywhere past our house unaccompanied. Its the same with the base. I really just want you to stay inside this mile or so.

Hot fury pulsed through my body. A mile was hardly enough room for my shifted form. Hell, it wasn’t enough room for human form.

You cant expect me to love you if you keep me trapped up. I said under my breath. Then I brushed his hand off and walked to the bakery.

I hoped he wouldn’t follow me.
