Chapter 18: Chapter 18: Getting a Job
Subaru was sitting down in the guild hall with his party members, Kazuma, Darkness, Aqua and Megumin.
"As much as I hate to say it…We have no money and some us of us have no weapons to go adventuring."
With the party completely out of the running for adventuring together Subaru was deciding what to do.
"So…I think our best course of action is for some of us to get jobs…The only jobs open however are with construction…"
Kazuma raised his hand.
"Doesn't that kind of ruin the point of being on a fantasy game like adventure?"
"…Unfortunately yes…Our dreams have been shattered temporarily."
Subaru sighed as he began to state his idea.
"Since Megumin can still use her explosion magic she could probably go with someone and take on an easy quest that can go to our adventuring fund."
He turned his head to face Darkness.
"Darkness…I don't think your skill set really fits construction…Given…You know…"
He cleared his throat.
"So I think you should be the one to go with Megumin! Please say you'll do it!"
"I-I mean wouldn't that make me miss out on the chance of being hit all over with hammers and bricks…?"
She was turning red while thinking of the many ways she could get hurt at a construction site.
"I doubt it's going to be as painful as your imagining."
"Very well. I will carry Megumin back to the city after taking on our quest. Maybe I'll get the chance to get attacked by a monster on the way back while protecting Megumin on my back making me get hit even more, hehehe…."
They all looked at Darkness while she was imagining her very strange thoughts. Aqua then made her cut in.
"You expect to make a goddess work?! Why do you always think I want to do these things that a goddess like my self should be ordering shut in neets like you and Kazuma around instead!"
"No drinking then."
"Eh?"
Aqua was wearing her innocent face while looking at Subaru.
"Do you think any of us will pay for stuff you clearly didn't earn? And I for one am saving up so I can finally go on the fantasy adventure you promised me."
"No! Please don't do that! If I can't buy stuff I'll have nothing! Nothing!"
"Right, right…So you'll work then?"
"Why do I have to listen to a shut in neet like you…"
Aqua was sulking in her seat and with everyone now in on Subaru's plan he began to think to himself once more.
'Aqua could have technically gone questing as well but…I don't think she's going to be able to handle herself on her own given everything that's happened…Hopefully she'll turn out to be useful for something in the end other then just bait.'
Everyone began signing up for the construction work, with the exception of Megumin and Darkness.
"And with that we are now construction workers." 'Let's hope I don't have to go through any of that again…Hopefully they keep the work space safe and I won't get killed by being hit with a brick or something.'
The first chapter of Subaru's new life had concluded, but now it was onto the next set of challenges that await him with his new job and the dangers that come with it.

SixSenses This chapter is on the shorter side but next one will be longer. And after reviewing everything I planned out nearly half a year ago now, it turns out this arc is darker then I originally remembered and goes into a lot of story elements. And here I thought it was meant to be a more comedic arc since the next one is going to be even darker then this one…Also this arc is going to be longer the first arc, idk how many chapters yet but def more then 17.
