Chapter 5: CHAPTER FOUR
I've never been asked out before, this was going to be my first time meeting with a guy, not just any guy but the one whom ladies in school are craving for, even just for him to winkle at them so they'd brag about it.
“This doesn't feel right” I said to myself, “of all the ladies, why me?” while I headed for the cafeteria
“I'm sure he'd be gone” i said, just about taking the next turn leading to the cafeteria.
“He wouldn't wait for me this long, am sure he”...
I halted & looking surprised after sighting a good looking lad standing at the front of the cafeteria looking into his watch, it was Cole.
“Woah! He did wait”, I said to myself
While walking gently towards him full of nervousness.He hadn't seen me yet cause he faced the opposite direction
“I thought you wouldn't show up” Cole asked rhetorically while turning around after I appeared behind him.
“why wouldn't I”, to myself & feeling surprised that he actually waited. I was so nervous and mostly shy while I stood head bow 1ft away from him
“I had a feeling you might delay, so I decided to wait an hour more” Cole said to me while making gestures with his hand wearing a warm smile on his face
I peeped on him while my head was bowed; looking at him from the toe cap of his shoes straight up to his head, he's so cute I concluded in my heart.
“I thought you would get tired of waiting and eventually leave” I replied in a nervous tone
“Well I guess you were wrong with your assumptions” Cole replied in a nice tone.
Was he being sweet or was it just me being carried away by his looks I wondered, I felt pleased and cheerful while I smiled under my hood covertly.
“Do you wanna stroll or you prefer we go into the...?”
“Let's stroll” I said cutting him short.,
Going into the cafeteria was no option at all for me, not with number of people that were inside, I was already shy and nervous standing with Cole & everything seemed to be going just fine and I didn't want to ruin it by going in.
“I'm Cole by the way” he said with a smile breaking the silence as we walked towards the school gate, it was going to be a long walk from the cafeteria I thought.
From the way he asked he expected me to reply him with my name also but I kept mute,
“and you're ?” he asked
“wait what! You must be kidding? You don't even know my name nor anything else about me and yet you proposed to prove to me life's worth living in ten days!
“Who the hell does that?”
That was me rhetorically speaking to myself under the hoodie of my jacket silently, snubbing him again
“ I know you must be wondering” he continued
“ I don't even know your name & yet I made a proposal” he sighed and smiled while looking at me
He seemed to be smiling alot today, I said to myself
“You might not believe this but, I've been watching you all along, right from the first day you resumed”
At this juncture I was thrilled, he really had me blushing under my hoodie unnoticed
“I don't mean I was stalking but Something seemed different about you that made me curious to want to figure it out”
“it's funny and fortunate how I was there that day, that wasn't how I planned on speaking to you for the first time” he said pausing for a while
“Did he just say he planned on speaking with me all along” I said to myself, thrilled;
At some point I thought all this was out of pity or for the fact that I seemed weird & looked like someone who needed help
He smiled alot while he spoke to me, I'd never seen him smile that much.
Cole wasn't really the smiling type,
Not even a feign smile for his dad, the day he personally came to pick him from school I sighted from afar as I walked home the previous weekend;
So many people turned to look at us as they passed by, I guessed they were as surprised as I was seeing me with Cole.
He seemed quite natural not minding the passers by, as though We were on an island with no one else but us & the beautiful sounds of the wind and the birds chirping., Unlike me, I felt more insecure as students passed and stared.,
I hadn't said anything since we started walking, he did all the talking while I just walked along with him.,
I had so many things in my head I wanted to voice out, but being shy and of cause, this was my first time talking to a guy in a long while, this wasn't just any guy this time around, so I didn't want to mess it up.
“I don't know if...” he continued
“my name's Kylie” with a low tone I said, interrupting him
“Wow! She finally speaks” Cole said cheerfully.,
“Well it's nice to meet you Kylie”
He was so calm & not trying to force me into conversations,I sure wouldn't have liked that, Cole didn't mind me ignoring him, he sure did understood the kind of person that I was even though we never knew each other before
“Can I ask you for a favor, please don't turn to look at me as we speak?”
“If that would make you feel more comfortable speaking with me then no problem” He replied.,
He sure was a gentle guy, everything about him was perfect, I was having a good time already & asking him not to look at me was the only way I'd feel a little confident if I was to converse with him, and I sure had a chance to be looking at him this time around,
“in 10 days you said you'd prove to me life's worth living & and am guessing this is day one?”
“Yeah sure” he replied
“wow! Okay then”
“So tell me Cole, aah how do you plan on doing that?” I asked out of curiosity
“Uhm lemme see”, touching his chin

“First of all, I'm gonna try to gain your trust” Cole said with so much confidence in his voice nodding his head thrice
“Aside from looking cute You're funny you know?"
“Oh you think so?” He said calmly
“what makes you think I can trust a guy within a time frame of ten days?”
“I don't know, but it's worth trying” he
said.,
“And what makes you think I won't ignore you, I can decide to ignore you, what would you do?”
“Well that would make it more fun and by the way you owe me one, I saved your life the other day so all am asking for in return is for you to give me just this ten days;” he said just about Turning to look at me
“don't do that” I said immediately I noticed he was about looking at me
“Oh, sorry, reflexes”
Some how I managed to ignore those staring and focused on who I was with.
Taking a deep sigh
“My life is more complicated than you think Cole” I responded while walking away the opposite direction, heading home.
But Cole noticing I was walking away grabbed my hand while he looked away
“Why are you being so stubborn? He asked while smiling”
The grip on my hand hurt that I couldn't control My rage, full of insecurity
“Don't touch me ”
I yelled at him pulling out my hand from his; drawing the attention of students Passing by
I cared less at this moment what people would think cause I was already fuming,
I hurriedly walked away heading home, I could sense his disappointment, and how embarrassed he must have been after creating a scene and leaving him in it, standing there all alone.
I felt hurt, disappointed in myself, he was the only guy who's ever walked up to me and offered me a hand of friendship, but out of my insecurity, I had just ruined it.
What if he never talks to me again?, what if he hates me?, What if he makes mockery of me?
What have I done? I asked myself lifting my head up and realised I was already home., More like a house, cause a home is where there's peace and love but mine lacked those qualities.
Moving closer i could hear distant noises, coming directly from house
“What could be wrong” I asked myself running towards the house
“Let go of my hair” yelled my mum in agony
This was indeed the first statement I heard just about knocking on the door...

This wasn't new, so I wasn't surprised at all
“Don't you dare do that dad” with a tone of command I said to my dad while holding his hand & standing in between him and my mum
“How dare you” he said in rage, lifting up his belt to hit me, but out of anger I held his other hand, restricting him from taking any other actions...'
At this point, Mr Walter was left with no choice but to pull himself out & went for his short gun that was placed around his waist.
