Chapter 3: Mysterious Site Within the Forest

Martinus the motorist looks restless in the steering seat of the motorboat he is driving. He repeatedly looked up at the forest beside the river, where Hendra and Lusia had disappeared behind the trees. Didn't show up either.

He glanced at the clock on his cellphone. It's 10:30 a.m., which means that Hendra and Lusia have entered the forest for an hour. There is no sign of the two of them appearing yet.

While scratching his un-itchy head, he muttered softly: "Aren't they afraid that the curse of the forest is real? Ah, city people always don't want to believe such things. Especially in high school," he grumbled.

The wind was blowing lightly, the thin man was closed for a few moments, enjoying the wind that was quite cold. In fact, because of the joy, he leaned against the steering wheel, whistling softly.

The more sleepy his eyes became, and he seemed to find it difficult to open them.

Finally, he fell asleep like a man drunk with liquor. Without realizing it, the river water, which was originally clear brownishly, gradually turned red and got redder.

Wild birds that were originally in the forest area and hiding behind the trees seemed to fly into the sky like they were scared.

From under the water, near the motorboat, suddenly appeared a hand, half a skeleton, moving to reveal the torn knuckles of his fingers.

Rotting fingers!

The fingers gripped the motorboat wheel. Pulled it until the water vehicle moved backward.

Martinus, who fell asleep in the front seat, suddenly woke up feeling an odd movement on his motorboat.

"Hoi! Who ..." he looked around looking for who was moving the machine thing. He initially thought it was Lusia or Hendra's doing, but he could not find anyone there.

But he heard a strange gurgling in the water nearby. Is this fish or crocodile? He thought with a beating heart

He looked around again, then looked carefully under the water. His body kept leaning down in curiosity to see an unknown black shadow in the water. Continue to observe with a frown.

The shadow in the water was getting bigger and bigger, bigger like something was moving closer to the surface.

Martinus stared. He hurriedly pulled himself back and sat in the boat seat with his breath panting.

"Jeez! This means something is wrong! I guess what the residents believe is true! This forest must have a curse!"

The thin young man jumped onto the mainland. Her eyes were running everywhere looking for Lusia and Hendra.

His steps were hesitant through the forest. Between scared and confused.

"Pak Hendra ....! Pak Hendra ...!"

Some distance into the forest, Hendra, and Lusia found something that caught their attention.

Apart from finding a deer behaving tame, the two also found a pile of rocks that looked strange to them.

The pile of stones in the shape of a square is hidden in a thick forest. The area is almost as big as a futsal field.

The tame deer that was always near them was seen lying on the ground. Eating grass casually without paying attention to the whereabouts of Lusia and Hendra, who were stricken with confusion and amazement.

Hendra tried to remove some of the bushes that covered the rocks. His eyes glanced at the square stones arranged neatly to resemble random buildings.

It seems that the mysterious rock has not been touched for decades. Mossy but looks sturdy. The arrangement is irregular but forms a rectangular expanse as if deliberately arranged in the past.

Hendra was stunned for a moment. His eyes barely blinked. He continued to rub the moss off one of the stone blocks. His face was serious.

"What does this mean, Hen?" Lusia came closer. He ignored the tame deer who was sitting grazing behind them.

Hendra shook his head. "I don't know. It's like a building, I don't know what building, and who knows when it was made ..." Henda focused her eyes on the square stones arranged to resemble the steps of the stairs. "Maybe our guess is right ... this is a relic of the past that was deliberately hidden by the residents, who knows what they mean to hide this ..."

"Maybe they're hiding some treasure, Hen!" Her eyes were sparkling, trying to guess.

Hendra shrugged his shoulders. "I don't know. But I don't think so. For what is the treasure hidden? Mending to be divided, ha ha ha," the young man laughed for a moment, then slowly circled the rocks out of curiosity.

He continued to point his camera at all corners of the rocks. Lusia trailed behind.

"Whatever this building is, we must have discovered something extraordinary. This is a historical site! We are famous!" Lusia squealed involuntarily.

They continue to cool around observing the stacked rocks. From the edges to the middle, which is slightly convex rectangular with a flat stone cover on top.

Hendra furrowed his brows. He approached the rather odd center. Measuring about four square meters.

Now both of them are near the square rock.

"It's like a place to store something ..." Hendra whispered. He crouched down, taking a closer look. "What's in it? Looks like it can be opened ..." The young man was holding a flat stone that seemed to be the cover of the square stone arrangement.

"Be careful, Hen! We don't know what's inside ... could it be a laptop!" Lusia stared with a smile.

Hendra laughed. "Is it open or not? I'm so curious!" Hendra looked at Lusia.

Lusia shrugged. "Yes, it's up to you, but if anything I'm not responsible! Who knows what's inside a window!" Lusia reminded with a wry smile.

Hendra slowly tried to move the square flat stone, but it seemed too heavy that he was gasping for breath.

They heard the tame deer behind them moaning uneasily. The animal stood up, walking around groaning at them.

Lusia looked back. His forehead creased. He turned again to Hendra, who stopped moving the stone.

"The deer suddenly made a fuss. What's wrong, Hen?" Whispered Lusia.

"Maybe a poisonous snake or wild animal is approaching," said Hendra. He wiped the sweat from his forehead. Then look back at the square stone in the center of the building. "Until now I am still confused, what is the matter with this forbidden area? We do not find what kind of curse, but there are some oddities, for example, this mysterious building and also ...." Hendra briefly turned his head towards the deer who was now sitting quietly. back. "The animal. He's too tame for a jungle animal. Beyond normal limits," he added.

After saying that, Hendra again touched his hand to the square stone cover, intending to open it.

And the deer was again groaning nervously at them.

Hendra and Lusia looked at each other.

"Sweet deer, what's wrong with you?" Lusia looked at the animal. And again, the animal looked calm when Hendra removed his hand from the square stone cover. The handsome young man furrowed his brows. "I think there is a connection between the touch of this stone and the animal's attitude ..." Hendra concluded.

"Something strange I think ...?" Lusia whispered giddily. He stared at the square stone that Hendra had not opened.

Hendra is getting more and more curious. He grabbed the square stone cover again, then with all his might pushed it aside.

Shit!

The flat stone shifted slightly. There was a small gap between the cover and the square stone. The young man looked breathless because the cover was so heavy. But he was a little satisfied that there was little success in his endeavors.

Lusia. Stared wide at him.

"Do I need to help, Hen?"

"No need. This is too heavy. You just record what I'm doing. Let it be a documentation of our journey," Hendra seemed even more excited. His hand returned. He slid the stone over. The gap was opening.

The smell was musty and strange. Just like the smell of a closed room that hadn't been opened for a long time.

Hendra held his breath for a moment. He brought his face closer to the half-open gap.

The sunlight that was pouring in made the conditions inside the rectangular object appear clearer. Like a sewer heading downwards.

Hendra stared.

"Jeez! It's like an age. But I don't know exactly what it's made of." After saying that, Hendra moved the flat stone again until it opened wider. And you can see the steps leading down.

Hendra was confused. "My suspicion is getting stronger if these stones were deliberately made. But what I don't understand is why they were deliberately hidden and closed tightly by residents?"
