Chapter 40: Rifts Pt. 3

Sorry about the missed chapter without a word. I don't even really have a excuse, I was just being lazy and let procrastination get the better of me.

Anyway here ya go.

have a good day- author

-------------------------------------------------------------------

Ruby POV:

"What was that about!?" I asked both a little confused and angry at Weiss' rude dismissal of Jaune.

"Haaah, Ruby I have come to understand your social ineptitude, but even you must understand the gravity of sharing personal stories without the original party's consent," Weiss lectured without even flinching at my words.

I mean, I understand what she's saying. While we were never directly told not to share what Sapphire told us, even the little we were told is rather too personal to share with unrelated parties, but….

"It's not like Jaune is a stranger or anything, and-" I try to state my thoughts aloud, but Weiss interrupts me.

"And? And what? Ruby, it doesn't matter how close someone is, as it is not up to us to share Sapphire's personal...issues," With the same unwavering ton of voice, Weiss tears my argument to pieces without me even finishing it.

I know she's right. I really do, but I just can't help but want to argue when she has such a disapproving look on her face.

"But-" I try to get out only to be once again interrupted, this time by Yang placing a hand on my shoulder.

I look over to see yang with her left hand on my shoulder and an awkward smile on her face.

"Sorry sis, I'm gonna have to agree with Weiss here, I think we should...keep...this...to...ourselves. Why are you looking at me like that!?" Yang voices her opinion much to my apparent shock if Yang's reaction is anything to go by.

I mean I can't help it. Yang agreeing with Weiss. I'd almost sooner believe someone telling me that fire was cold than Yang verbally admitting she agrees with Weiss.

Not the time for that!

I shake the unrelated thoughts out of my head and cool my expressions. I ignore Yang's comical pout as she seems to have seen through my thoughts and fell once again into thought.

I was being childish. Weiss is right, I have no business sharing such a personal conversation without express permission, and receiving such permission is nowhere near the top of the list right now.

"Haaah, You're right. I just don't know what to do…" I say as I slump back into the bench.

The atmosphere seemed to grow more downtrodden as my teammates silently agreed with my sentiments.

Sapphire has been avoiding us as much as possible since this morning, and It's not hard to guess why. We pushed too hard for answers Sapphire wasn't ready to share. I don't claim to know what she's thinking right now, but I can only hope that any damage done to our relationship as a team can be fixed.

"For now, we should get ready for training," Blakes relatively calm voice breaks me and the others from our silent brooding, and I gaze at the clock.

"Yeah…" I mutter.

--------------------Timeskip---------------------

As I enter the training facility, I am both surprised and unsurprised to see Sapphire waiting for us by an unoccupied platform. Her dedication is remarkable, to say the least.

Sapphire is sitting on the arena platform, with her lower legs dangling over the edge. She has nice long legs as shown by how even just the lower half of her legs reach a little over halfway down the three-foot-high platform.

Haaah….

Her height is both the object of my admiration and envy.

Anyway, she is fully geared up, from head to toe, which is weird considering she usually has the hood and mask off during practice when she is not sparring, but I can't say I expected much. I'm just glad she's here.

3rd person POV:

Team RWBYS training seemed to drag on, as the awkward atmosphere only grew more and more apparent with time. Today was supposed to be dedicated to team building and coordination, but everyone was far too mentally preoccupied to make any significant progress. At least that's what they thought.

Still, though they trudged on; practicing one coordinating move after the other, and one formation after the other. After a while, the physical exercise seemed to take the edge off today's stress. Thoughts of training slowly replaced the meandering melancholy, and the atmosphere seemed to lighten if only a little.

Though, like with all things, training came to an end, and the distraction keeping the team out of their own heads slipped away. With the momentum of the training having faded the atmosphere once again grew burdensome. Still, time marches on, and they need to clean up and head to the cafeteria if they don't wish to go hungry for tonight.

----------------------------------------------------

Ruby POV:

I stepped out of the locker room, my hair still wet from having just taken a shower, and I leaned against a nearby wall. I am wearing A red t-shirt with a white rose emblazoned on the front, some black shorts, and a pair of red and white tennis shoes. Just some casual clothes for now as I will be changing out of them after dinner anyway to put on some PJs.

I know I am the first one out, as, the other four have significantly longer hair than me, and this takes a bit longer to wash up. One of the perks of short hair, I guess.

Still, not much later Blake walks out of the locker room, so I wave her over. She is also wearing rather casual clothes, an all-black t-shirt, some matching Yoga pants, her black boots, and her ever-present black bow. Seriously, how does she always manage to keep that on at all times?

Next came Weiss, and seemingly rejecting casual clothes, wears her standard blue-white dress, and heals. She notices us almost immediately and makes her way over as well.

Not long after, out came Yang, wearing a white tank top, black shorts, and black and yellow tennis shoes.

Finally, out came Sapphire. She's wearing an outfit similar to what she wore this morning, except, instead of black yoga pants she is wearing some black short shorts. She has her wet hair up in a ponytail. Still, though, my eyes are drawn to her ears, which show little life, and then to her tail, which sags behind her.

When she noticed us waiting for her, her demeanor almost seemed to do a one-eighty. Her ears raised and her tail lightly swayed, but just as quickly as it came, it was gone, replaced once again with the disheartened look she had before. Ignoring the happiness she seemingly felt upon seeing us still here, she quickly tried to run away.

Haaah…

I'm sorry Sapphire, but we'll get nowhere if you keep running away.
