Chapter 2: Drunk

The curtains of my eyes lifted to find my aching body under a ceiling that I barely recognize.

I could hardly keep my lids up while the alarm going in my head was fu*king killing me. Supporting my head with the little strength left in my arms, I finally lifted my upper body.

Maybe I drank too much!

I sighed.

From what my mind could at that time comprehend I was in someone's bed with my body, aching, hair, a mess, and clothes...

Wait ..Clothes!?

I shook my head to finally get in touch with my surroundings. Instead of the glamourous bodycon dress, my body was enveloped in a white shirt.

Where am I?

Revolving my eyes around, I first turned off the alarm that was actually ringing on the nightstand. 8:30 it said, and I was already late.

The room was painted a light shade of grey with curtains a little dark. Beside the open window there contained a bookshelf beneath a mysterious painting.

My chest felt burning while my head ready to explode and before I could move out of the Saturn bedsheets, my gaze fell on a photo frame kept along with the alarm.

Shit!!

ETHAN'S POV

I was sitting at the corner desk with a pile of sheets. It consisted of the record of all the company's previously published material. Though dad had asked me to directly join the company with the post of director, I had insisted on coming as an intern.

After all wouldn't that be a better idea to just get to know everybody on the ground level first, grab some experience, and then take on a higher position?

Our company has set up associations with various daily times newspaper, News channels, magazines, and even famous novelists.

And from the sales, it was clear that nowadays people are more interested in knowing the breed of the dog owned by a celeb than to know the house which got robbed or the latest policies passed by the government.

"PS I fell for you" I whispered the name of the novel. That's quite an overused name in the market. The story deals with the life of a young woman who falls for another man while being in a fully committed relationship with her boyfriend. The plot's quite fine but the character development is pretty bad. There ain't any depth in the story and is full of irrelevant topics.

Slamming the draft of the novel I grabbed a piece of paper and read through the author's info.

Name - Jane Miller

Position - In-charge ( Entertainment Department)

Age - 28

Gender - Female

Height and weight - 170cm, 58kg

Years of experience - 4

"And that's why I can't trust people within the entertainment department"

I was about to put the sheet down when my phone flashed a number calling.

"Hello"

"Hello ..." A woman? "Police station ?" No, a drunk woman.

"It's ...not a police station," I said ."Can I know who am I talking to?"

What if she is in danger? "Is something wrong ?.. I can inform the police for you "

"Yes ..." Her voice started to shake and I wondered if it was because something was wrong or because of how drunk she was.

I don't understand how people could be so irresponsible, drinking more than you can handle and then getting into trouble because of that, seriously? Irresponsible.

I sighed ."What happened miss and where are you? "I asked, "May I know your name ?"

"J...Jane "

Jane? I turned over to look at the profile which my fingertips were holding on to and gave a sigh when the phone number on the screen didn't match the profile.

Soon, her voice broke and I assumed she started crying.

I was about to ask what's the matter when the lady's voice was replaced by a male baritone ."Hey mister, take your girlfriend home, she is grabbing my phone for an hour now," The voice sounded rather irritated and I guess I know why.

So, here comes our first rule,

Rule no.1: Do not get drunk until you can handle it.

Keeping my temper down, I asked "Can I know the place from where this call is coming "

He hung up the phone and sent me the address. It was Block 2, Benedict Street but as if I was going.

Soon a photograph of my newly formed girlfriend flushed on my chats from the same number.

And unfortunately, it was Jane. Jane Miller, my in charge. I finally seemed to understand from where my number was stolen.

I sighed, picking up my car keys.

***

Pushing her wobbly body on my cushion. I squeezed my nose to prevent the flush of alcohol towards me.

The man was still standing there holding Jane my her arm to prevent her from falling He looked quite in his fifties but there was quite a seriousness over his wrinkled face.

"You should take proper care of your valuables" His tone was rather annoyed but his expression felt quiet "Not everybody gets a second chance "With that he left the scene.

I couldn't refuse the fact that whatever he said was quite true. People act impulsively then regret it the next moment. There are times when you lose someone completely way before getting that person fully.

I sighed, flushing my thoughts aside. It wasn't the time for me to think that.

I was about to go to the kitchen when she pulled my arm close to whisper something into my ear.

"Aww...You look so cute without glasses"

Rule no. 2: Never try to help a drunk girl. Literally NEVER.
