Chapter 4: Friends

Turning to the source of the sound, I could get a glance of Anu's handsome face from a disturbingly close distance. It's astonishingly disgusting to find a man's face from this close to be handsome, but still I can't help thinking his face is handsome and it's kind of impressive in one way or other.

Looking outside, I can see our college gate wide open for the bus to enter.

After the driver completed his conversation with the guard taking notes of the bus entry time, bus number etc, our bus drove past the gate and stopped at the parking lot beside the other 20 some buses parked in a row.

We still have a long 40 minutes before our classes begin, but all the others rush to get down the bus as soon as the driver stop the engine.

It's not because they are punctual or they all are diligent students, its because they have some different agendas, more important than boring college classes.

Some of them are desperate to meet with their girlfriends or boyfriends, not to mention, they talk with them all through the night or even stay with them all through the night but get into different buses just to pretend they are not doing something college restricts. Some of them rush to their spots, where their 'Gangs' hangout, just to show off their social status to others. Some of them just go out through the open gates and get back before the bus leaves. But, none of them even accidently do some kind of college related stuff.

However, I'm different or I need to be different, and why's that, because I'm the college president. I need to be that ideal leader, who is sincere, highly motivated in work, diligent student and highly sociable.

I don't find it burdensome, because it was what I choose. I wanted to be that ideal guy always and I will make sure I'm that, at any cos-

I was again interrupted, this time a sturdy hand pulled me out of my seat by my collar and dragged me to the door.

"Let's go to the canteen, Ajin. It's my treat." Anu announced while following us, that is, me and the owner of the hand pulling me, Rithvik.

It's very satisfying hear the word treat come from Anu. To be honest, I already tasted every item in our college canteen and also all the restaurants near our college because of his treats. So, it's hard for a guy like me, who goes to college on scholarships.

"Ajin, have a minute" called our driver.

Rithvik freed his hand around my neck, meanwhile Anu got down the bus and his face clearly showing the disdain he was feeling.

Our driver is not some shady person, wearing the driver's uniform provided by the college, which is a plain brown dress with the college symbol on the chest and stipes at end of the sleeves. Not considering the grease marks on his trousers and callouses on his hands, he is not a shady person, though Anu thinks otherwise.

"Yes uncle," I replied to the driver.

He shoved his mobile into my hands saying, "I can't add my bank account to that. That transport sir said he will wire my salary to that and I can withdraw it from my bank but I couldn't add it."

While I'm busy checking the phone to understand the problem, he continued, "… Samantha ma'am said she will do that, but I can't find her… I can't understand this phone, when I call to others, I can see their faces all of a sudden… once when I called to my brother, he was brushing… my son said, I could even book movie tickets from it, it's funny right, I know my son speaks ridiculous, why will someone stand in queue and buy my ticket for me…"

That's how he is, starts with something and goes on and on without a stop. He is a nice guy with a loose tongue.

"Uncle, I have linked you bank account to the app, now you need to set a pin for it," I stated while handing him his phone.

"Pen? What I need to write? Should I write on the screen? But, won't the screen damage? " he baffled.

Rithvik and I chuckled and I'm confident that I saw Anu's lips curve for a split second, but they soon retraced to their disdain expression. Soon, I showed him what to do and we got to set him a pin, which was his son's birth year.

As soon as we figured he is going to start talking something about his son or some life lessons from his past, we said our byes and I left with my bus-mates.

….

Parting ways with Anu and Rithvik near the main canteen, I walked to our branch canteen, which is quite smaller, and serve only a fraction of the main canteen's menu.

I meet my classmates here everyday, so it's like a mandate to come here before my classes begin.

Standing in front of the canteen, I checked my wallet, still having enough to buy my lunch, but thanks to Anu's generosity, my belly didn't need a lunch anymore, so, I put it back into my pocket.

However, it didn't fit in my pocket and fell to the ground. Before I could pick it, a hairy hand of a teenager, with a handsome face, different from Anu's picked it. Like, Anu's face was a handsome rich face, but this guy's face was dignified as if he have the wisdom of a saint and it looked more like a man's face than a teenager.

He is two years elder to me, but because of his financial condition, he needed to work two years and now with his own money, he is doing his graduation with me.

"Be carefree, but don't be careless Ajin," he stated, while removing one of the only two notes in my wallet, "And this my fee for the wisdom I gave you now" he continued, while handing my wallet with a proud smile.

A witty businessman, "Rishi, you bastard!" I cursed him silently while snatching my wallet from his hand.

Before I could completely place it in my pocket, another hand pulled it outside and with a smirk, the owner of the hand said, "You forgot the almighty Akash's share."

Before I even got the chance to curse him, he ran to the counter and Rishi followed suite, leaving me alone with the cool wind flowing past my face.

Without a choice, I followed them, sighing, "There goes my lunch."
