Chapter 11: The Kook

Things escalated out of clasp abysmally; I still lay on the cold, unsympathetic floor, squirming and stooping. I constantly kept disentangling and intertwining the locks of my unruly hair, as if to fence my afflicted conscious and sentient.

The girl whom I toiled with yesterday was dead. I shouldn't have let Jamie go on one's jack. Is this why... she's a bypast now? I still remember her blaring holler; she had clearly declared a panic-stricken "no!" did she know about this? If she perceived something nasty, why didn't she tell me?

Due to the infelicity in the situation, I was convinced that I don't want to be harried into refuting answers in-front of school's sceptical eyes; so, I grabbed my car-keys once more- this time too tightly, and stepped out into the waves of blasting winds.

I scurried outside so inattentively, that I almost over-looked an individual standing near the nook of my door."Hey, excuse me." He asked me to stop, but I was too blatant to listen, and thus left. "Hey, I have a parchment for you." He implored once more.

I don't have time for this. Can't he see I'm unsettled and miserable?

"Come back tomorrow, I will check it tomorrow, have a good day." I said sounding completely emotionless and mournful. The man watched me leave.

"Jamie... it's from Jamie" he briefed.

What in the world is he talking about?

"It can't be."

"Well... if you're still prompt in your decision, and want it tomorrow, that's fi-" I straight away cut him. "Give it to me!!" I hollered.

It took me a mere milliseconds to seize the parchment from his hands; he was confounded by my manners, but still managed a smile. "It's yours."

I recklessly slit the parcel from atop and inquired every material I could put my eyes on. All I could find was a single note, and a bunch of photos- such queer things to consign, before departing from this world. I perceived that Jamie was in a haste before transmitting the parcel; her scrambled hand-writing and abstruse photos demonstrated so.

I was so engaged in concluding evidences that spiraled with a mail, that I didn't envisage the possibility of the mail man intently gazing at me; the cautious mien that he was getting to gawp on. What vagary...

"Are you done surveying?" I asked nonchalantly, raising my eyebrows questioningly.

I witnessed him chuckle, but still didn't have the maintained poise I had before, neither the courage to face another wrench in life.

"Haven't you got more mail to deliver?!" I solicited.

"Calm down."

Ha! Did he just ask me to tranquilize and settle down while he's audaciously staring at me... Is he for real?

His next words sent a cold shudder down my spine, and a lurched feeling in my stomach.

"I'm not a mailman."

He's not? Then-

"Then how'd you get my mail?" I asked.

"The mail man must've gotten our addresses wrong." He shrugged; "maybe".

"Oh... sorry. Thanks for delivering." I passed a doubtful smile.

"But next time, don't gawk like that-" I added as a continuity in my sentence.

"Yes, ma'am!" were his last words, before he too departed without further a due and wastage of more time.

I saw him bypass slowly, walking ahead and then disappearing after taking a turn to his right.

"Jerk, I wasn't joking." I muttered after he evaporated from sight. Leaving me completely clueless on his actions.

CREATORS' THOUGHTS

Hey besties!

On one's jack means on one's own.

The main character has an uncanny way to go about things; is it alright in the circumstances she's under, or is there something more to it? Perhaps... guilt?
