Chapter 25: Minho
—1 Month Later—
Pov Minho:
*Shuck-a* *Shuck-a* *Shuck-a*. I woke up to the sound of machinery, the artificial lights alone through the metal cage I was in.
"Squeak"
The pig that was also in here with me screeched, scaring me. I tried remembering everything but only drew a blank.
The metal cage stopped and the doors above swung wide open, the light from the sun momentarily blinded me, but that quickly went away, and about a dozen people looked down on me.
The atmosphere was tense, the dozen people stood on opposing sides, some of them looking at the others in disdain while most of them looked down at me in curiosity.
An 11-year-old kid jumped into the cage with me, this kid had no left ear as if it was cut off. He greeted me with a kind smile and a welcoming atmosphere, but that was just him, everyone else was showing contempt for the other side. I was rightfully scared of my situation.
"W-Whats going on?"
"Hey, I know what you're going through, we have all gone through the same thing you are experiencing right now, we will explain everything."
Cautious, I didn't know what was happening, where I was, or even who I was. So I could only really go with the kid and hope he didn't have any bad intentions.
"Well, first let's get you out of here."
The kid got a running start and jumped off the side of the metal box, the extra height from the jump allowed him to reach the doors above me. He latched onto the doors and pulled himself up.
"You can use one of the boxes. Unless you want to stay with the pig."
He chuckled as he pointed to one of the many boxes in the metal box with me. I grab one and prop it underneath the door, before using it to get out of the metal box.
The sight that greeted me fully set me into a panic, walls that reached up into the sky surrounded me, I was surrounded. I unconsciously started hyperventilating. But I quickly try and get a hold of myself, slowly I try breathing, in and out, and I eventually calm myself down.
"Well that's a new reaction, usually they try running, or just breaking down, but nobody was this calm."
I look over to the guy who said that only to see an arrogant face. He looks to be the leader of this side. I narrowed my eyes at him.
"Alex! Come, our new greenhorn needs a tour guide."
"Wait there Gregory, Alex toured the last Greenhorn, why don't we have Henry here do the tour."
The arrogant guy approached the kid named Gregory with a guy named Henry. The kid contemplated before looking back.
"Sure Henry can tour the greenhorn, I can't see why not."
'I don't care who is going to tour me, I just want to know what the hell was going on. These guys don't like each other.'
Henry then showed me around the glade, explaining my situation, and what was going on.
"Wait so you're telling me that Gregory is the only one going into the maze!"
"Hmm, yes he is. But after 15 months he hasn't made any progress, and we are starting to lose hope that he's going to find an exit."
"But isn't he the only one even trying?"
"No, other people have tried, but they quickly realize that the risk is not worth it and stop going."
"Then what about the conflict going on between your group and Gregory's?"
"Oh, so you figured that out? Well the conflict all started when Alex was found to be stealing a lot of food, we had a trial and we concluded that he should be put in jail. But Gregory and Albe were displeased with this and forcefully got Alex out, Gregory even pointed a spear at Carlos!"
"Really? Is that true?"
"Ya, he threatened us when we tried to stop him by almost stabbing Carlos in the neck."
My opinion of Gregory dropped.
"Well, that's not good. So is your side against Gregory?"
"Yes, we are against him, he has done other worse things, we want to get rid of him, or at least put him in jail. Half of the Glade is on his side though, so that's why we need your help."
"To add another number to your ranks?"
"Oh no, we want you to get close to Gregory, and be like an undercover spy, of course, you can refuse if you want to!"
"As long as you can prove that he has done those terrible things, I will do it."
"You can confirm with anyone here, though I wouldn't trust Gregory's People, they might give you false information."
"Alright, I trust you, and I'll confirm later, I'll do it."
Pov Gregory:
After sending the greenhorn away I chill out, it was a nice day and I didn't want to do anything. Henry toured the Greenhorn around, I didn't care that much about whether they will poach them, it won't matter even if they succeed. Speaking of the greenhorn he was heading towards me right now.
"Hey Greenhorn! What do you want? Did Henry give you a good tour?"
"Ya the tour was great, it was honestly a refresher to know what was going on, and to have so many people supporting me and who have gone through the same thing I am going through right now is a relief."
"That's great, and remember if you need anything I'm your guy."
"Then I'll take up that offer, I want to go into the maze with you."
… I stare at him like I was analyzing him. From his head and to his toes.
"You can come along, but it's very dangerous."
"No, I want to do it."
"Well ok, we are leaving first thing tomorrow, before then I'll teach you some tricks that might save your life."
And so for the rest of the day, I taught him.
—13 Months ago—
Pov Griev:
I ran and ran, I was scared and ignorant of what was going on, but I just wanted to run away from everything.
I was lost, I came to my senses, and running into this maze wasn't a good idea. It was dark, I could barely see anything due to the moonlight. I hear the walls moving, shifting as if the maze was moving.
*Ka-Ke-Ke-Ke*
The clicking terrified me, it was ominous in the fact that it was strange to hear such a sound in this maze.
"Screeeeeeeee"
"Oh shit!"
A bulbous, dark creature, with many appendages such as spikes, shears, and rods fastly approached me with its spider-like legs. Fight of the flight was all my brain was able to think about, it was obvious that it chose flight.
I ran faster than I have in my life, not that I remembered it. The systematic steps of the creature's metal spider legs sounded behind me.
"Shit Shit Shit Shit Shit."
Closer the steps came I looked behind me only to see a stinger ready to plunge into me. I started crying, thinking that this was how I was going to die. I tripped…
*Whoosh*
The stinger of the creature flew by me, almost nicking my neck. I fell to the ground and I was now at the mercy of this creature. Its creepy eyes looked at me without any emotion, it wasn't mad that it missed me, just a killing machine.
The creature lined up for another strike, I rolled to the side, to the wall that was next to me in a desperate attempt to escape the sting. I slid under something! I escaped the sting and slipped under the now noticed crack in the wall.
I kept rolling and was able to get deeper into the wall, the creature squealed as its limbs tried reaching me through the crack, but was unable to.
I was finally able to catch my breath. I was safe? The wall that I was in started moving, I noticed that the maze had been shifting into a different shape, the hollow wall that I was in was doing that exact thing. It eventually stopped and the creature was long gone.
I just sat down and started crying as the situation I was in started sinking in, I was in a maze with monsters, lost with no memory of myself, no food, and no water. I was going to die…
