Chapter 5: A Birthday Surprise

When waking up to his first birthday, Paul saw something he wasn't expecting. He tried to blink his eyes for a few times, but nothing changed. He also rubbed his eye and slapped himself, but it was still there. A blue text box could be seen floating in front of him. He attempted to touch it, but all that happened was his hand passing through it. Gaining his clarity back after being awake for a while, Paul finally read the text box.

[Welcome host, to the Pokemon World System!]

Paul became stunned for a moment. A system?! Isn't it so cliché to be reincarnated and then have a system as a golden finger? Anyhow, Paul wouldn't complain if it was true. Who would reject a major assistance on accomplishing whatever your goals may be? 'Well, except for those whose egos' are so big that he or she thinks that having a system would be beneath him or her; or someone so noble that he or she to disdain to have a golden finger.' Paul thought.

Honestly, Paul thinks that having a system wasn't necessary for him, as he was confident on being successful on his own. However, if assistance was given to him, he wouldn't decline it either. As Paul realized that the text box didn't have any changes even after reading it, so, he focused on it to see what was needed for it to change. On the lower left right side of the text box, a word could be seen.

[Proceed >>>]

Paul tried to read it aloud, but there weren't any changes. He then tried to read it silently. A change finally appeared.

[Before proceeding to the tutorial, the system needs to fully bind to the host.]

[Bind the system to the host?]

[Yes | No]

After thinking about it for a bit, Paul answered yes. Another text box popped out after the current one disappeared.

[Binding to the host....]

[Please wait for a while. The system would notify the host after the binding process is done. Please standby.]

Then, the text box vanished on its own.

Paul spaced out for a few minutes, thinking if all what he saw a few moments ago were just a product of his imagination. Clearing out his chaotic thoughts, Paul checked the clock above his bed for the time. He had already changed his crib into a bed and has a new room for himself. Of course, it came with a little bit of persuasion and some kisses with his mom.

As it was already 8:00 am, Paul went to the bathroom to relieve himself, wash his face, and brush his teeth. Imagining how he could do all of these, with him being a one-year-old? The answer is a customized bathroom for someone his size. Basically, Paul is already as tall as a three-year-old, which is around 3 feet. With this height, he could do things more easily compared to being someone who's only as tall as a one-year-old.

His parents were quite freaked out that he became so tall so fast, but Alakazam explained that his growth will slow down as he grows older until it matches his peers' development. Alakazam predicts that Paul will continue to develop quickly until he was 10 years old, which he imagines that Paul would already look like 14 by then. After that, he would hardly change until his physical appearance matches his age, so they don't need to worry about his development.

Alakazam theorized that his fast development was mostly due to his psychic force needing a more developed body to occupy, and this forced his body to develop more quickly than normal so that he can meet the minimum requirement as a psychic as soon as possible.

Paul was thankful for Alakazam, if it wasn't for her, his parents would still be worrying about his fast growth. Glad that those problems were away, Paul took a step outside his bedroom and went downstairs to go to the dining room. As he opened the door, he was greeted with floating plates and utensils that arranged themselves on the dining table. Despite that their mansion has a large dining room, their dining table was quite humble. It wasn't that it was ugly or cheap, but more on that it could only seat up to six people. Most of the time, Gengar, Alakazam, and Ampharos eats their meal with them.

Living in the mansion for a year, Paul got used to the routine of his parents leaving every weekend. He doesn't know what they're doing, but he has a hunch about it. He doesn't want to confront his parents without any evidence yet, and he wants to give them the benefit of the doubt. According to them, his parents do not have any family left.

They met in an "organization" that gives opportunities to youth that can't provide themselves of Pokemons and other related issues such as money, clothes, food, and training resources. He knows that it was quite sketchy, but his parents do not know about what he thinks. Until they themselves break the ice or if he finds a conclusive evidence, he will not confront them about it.

Today, even though it's Sunday, his parents were home. Usually, they would leave Alakazam at home to make sure that Paul would be safe in the house despite being alone. But now, Gengar is here, which mean that his parents came home yesterday or early this morning.

Paul initiated to talk to the two fellows present. "Hey Gengar, Alakazam. Does any of you know where my parents currently are?" He asked curiously.

Interestingly, they just stared at him, and both replied with a shrug.

"Hey! It's my birthday today. I would appreciate it if you would cooperate with me, even if it's just for today."

They again replied with an indifferent shrug.

Paul huffed in annoyance. His parents' pokemons may like him a lot, but their loyalty always lies to his parents; obviously.

"Okay, fine. I know I won't get anything out of you two. If they ever ask for me, just tell them I went to the library to read for a moment while waiting for breakfast." Without waiting for their reply, Paul sauntered out of the dining room.

He went upstairs again and walked near the hall of his bedroom. Just parallel of his room rests the house's library. He was so happy when he found out about it, that he jumped to embrace his parents. Take note, Paul was affectionate to his parents as he was naturally an affectionate person, but he doesn't just jump on people. Okay, maybe a little. Admittedly when he's so happy, but that's beside the point; the point is that his room is parallel to the library!

To be honest, he's feeling overwhelmed on the kindness that his parents gave him since he was born. They were too accommodating that he couldn't grasp on up to what extent their kindness would reach for their son. As of now, he really is like a weird kid, as his development was faster than normal, how fast he learned on how to talk and read, which the latter normally takes around at least six years; and now he's able to write legibly, which ordinarily takes at least four years, since he couldn't learn earlier as his hands were just too small.

Despite having a psychic force to explain his fast physical developments which luckily covers up the reason for his intelligence. In which, his parents also attribute this to him being a psychic. They accepted it with gratitude, thinking that their child was special, and they seem so relieved when Alakazam told them his psychic abilities were responsible for his fast development.

He even confronted them about it, as he told them that he read about normal development of babies; he asked them if they were okay of him being so abnormal. They surprised him then again as they stated that no matter who he is, he would always be their son thus they would always love him no matter who he was. He was very touched about that even until now, but it makes him feel wary somehow. As being so lucky with his current family might come up with a price.

For now, Paul won't think about things that could make him sad as today was his birthday! As of now, he would read an interesting book that discusses the history of the Pokemon Alliance. Paul stayed in the library until it was a few minutes before 10:00 am. Just as he was cleaning up the table, a blue text box appeared in his vision. Paul felt himself sigh with relief, at least he wasn't crazy, yet.
