Chapter 35: BSWS CH-35 The Chunin Exams III - Butterfly Flaps Its Wings Again
Ibiki looked in surprise as Naruto suddenly started writing at an incredible pace, filling every answer in a very comprehensive manner. He slightly raised his eyebrow as he took in this sudden change.
He had noticed Naruto earlier as he was one of the Genin sitting close to him who had an expression of absolute despair on their faces. Yet now he was answering the test with a speed that made him look as if he was copying from an answering key.
That was not the problem however. The problem was that despite Naruto clearly cheating, neither the Sentinel nor Ibiki himself could sense how he was doing it.
This feat was more impressive than most would realize. Ibiki had already seen through even the most impressive cheating techniques utilized by the Genin here.
He had seen through the Sand eye and the Puppet Technique of the Sand Trio. He had seen through the Byakugan used by the Hyuga kid from the Side Branch of the Hyuga. He had seen through the mirror on the ceiling technique used by the teammate of the Hyuga boy.
Each and every cheating method laid bare before him, yet he had not called them out on it, as they were truly useful ones which a Shinobi could use in information gathering while staying among a crowd.
However, no matter how hard they looked, he and his sentinels were clueless about Naruto's method.
'This kid has impressed me. I need to ask Hokage to inquire about the method this kid used through the Jonin that leads this kid's team.'
'If I am right, the Jonin in charge of this kid should be Kakashi Hatake. Now that was an ANBU captain even I was impressed by. I can't believe that cold white-haired kid, who once studied in the same class as me, is leading his own team today.' Ibiki thought nostalgically before bringing his focus back on the exam.
The rest of the exam was completed normally. Ibiki posed his mental torture-based question. But Sakura had already told Naruto and Sasuke to not react.
She knew that none of the main characters that she was concerned with would give up easily. If some of the side characters gave in to the pressure and left, that was only that much better for her, as she had made some plans for the Second Phase.
Speaking of which, Sakura looked at the large windows of the hall. Anko had made a dramatic entrance in the Original Canon and had acted all smug and arrogant. Sakura decided to do a harmless prank on Anko.
Infusing her string with a slight amount of Water Chakra, Sakura opened a hidden pocket and took out a little bit of the special ink powder used for Fuinjutsu. She infused the Chakra thread, which now contained water chakra, with a slight amount of the ink powder.
She then made the chakra strings travel while being hidden in the shadows of the desks and chairs, before carefully making them fuse to the wall and windows. She then applied a basic Fuinjutsu formation on the walls and windows that would repel any kinetic impact made on it for the next few hours. With her prank ready to be tested, Sakura dispelled the strings.
After a few minutes, Ibiki had made a few teams leave through mental pressure. However, there were still a significant amount of teams left, a total of 24 teams.
Sakura noticed that with the lack of Naruto's speech, it was the weaker teams amongst the ones from the Leaf who had succumbed to the pressure. The teams sent from other villages were mostly fine under this pressure.
'The Leaf really does train its Genin very casually.' Sakura thought absent-minded 'No wonder that despite sending a large number of teams every time, hardly a handful of them end up becoming Chunin.'
'Yet on the other hand the harsh methods of the other villages giving them a handful but well trained Shinobi.' Sakura thoughts as she remembered the various special jutsu used by Genin from other villages while Leaf Genin could barely use the Three Academy Jutsu as their arsenal.
"Alright then!!" Ibiki shouted, bringing Sakura back from her thoughts "All of you who have not left the exam hall and decided to take the final question… You pass!!!"
Ibiki then told them all of the importance of information gathering and not succumbing to torture. He showed them his scarred and burned visage, eliciting gasps and cries from the tender-hearted among them. After impressing upon them the dangers of being Shinobi, Ibiki declared the first part of the Chunin Exams over.
'Now where is that Anko?' Ibiki thought 'Given her impulsive and arrogant nature, I thought she would have interrupted me by now and arrived in some flashy manner.'
Right at that moment, the door of the Exam Hall was pushed open and Anko arrived. She walked towards Ibiki with a limp in her gait and a scowl on her face. Ibiki raised an eyebrow at that peculiar sight of her.
Anko arrived next to Ibiki and asked in a whispering growl "Were you the one that sealed the windows with Fuinjutsu so that I couldn't come in by breaking them flashily? I got sent flying and landed on the academy courtyard in a very unladylike manner!!"
Ibiki looked at Anko's eerily flashing eyes and shook his head slightly Anko glanced at him a moment to see if he was being honest before turning to the exam takers.
"Hmm, I am your proctor for the next phase Anko Mitarashi. A lot of you are left, which was not supposed to happen according to our plan. So I am going to work hard to cut down the number of teams left greatly in the next phase."
This generated an uproar among the remaining teams. No one wanted to be eliminated from the exam and return back to their villages as failures. Anko's announcement generated a vehement outcry.
However, In response to the outcry, Anko gave no verbal response. She only let out a dense killing intent that made the Genin feel as if they were being looked at by a very dangerous snake who might gulp them up at any moment.
"Listen up you brats!! I am your proctor who is assigned to test you. I am not your parent to listen to your whining and moaning, so don't bother acting like a spoiled kid. You are all shinobi and you are expected to follow orders of your superiors, do you understand?"
"Any questions or complaints you have will be addressed tomorrow, once you reach the location for the next phase of the exam. I will let your Jonin Squad Leaders the location for the next test. they will let you know where you have to come and what you have to prepare."
"As for anyone who still wants to ask questions at this moment, I am in every foul mood so don't piss me off further with your chatter. Else I will not hesitate to eliminate the team that catches my ire right her right now!! Am I clear?!" Anko said before she let them all go and rest for the day.
After she and the test takers had vacated the exam hall, Ibiki and the sentinels examined the windows and walls and found tiny Fuinjutsu seals all over the walls and windows, which were not present before the beginning of the test.
"Interesting. It seems some really interesting kids have come to us this time. Let's see what more surprises they bring." Ibiki said with a grin that sent chills down most of the Sentinels.
