Chapter 3: 3

I am supposed to meet up with this Micah guy tomorrow at 5PM, right after club activities. Looks like I won't have much time for myself until vacation, huh? I sigh, then grab my book, not feeling like going home just yet.

Not that I don't like home. I love my parents and they love me. But there's just more pressure there than at school. If I don't do everything just right, everything that my parents built during the years will be destroyed in mere seconds.

Most of the time, parents of rich kids will expect a lot of their heir. My parents don't. They just want me to have a fun childhood, to feel loved and to feel like I am just like all the others. That's why I want to protect them even more.

Just ten pages left. The main character is trying his best to bond with his nephew, who he just adopted. The nephew refuses his attempts. It's kind of sad, especially if you know the past of the man and the kid. I quickly finish the book, but the ending leaves me feeling unsatisfied.

Today's a bad day. School was boring, the tall blond annoyed me, we realized our songwriting skills suck, I got paired up with a weird kid and now the book's ending sucks. I kick an empty can of soda before picking it up and throwing it away. I hum a song as I walk home, trying to clear up my mood.

"Welcome home, sir." One of the maids greets me as I walk in.

"An, thank you." I smile back. I am friends with all of the maids and butlers, chefs and gardeners. We don't have a lot of staff, and we treat all of them like family. Although we keep it professional most of the time, on happy or sad occasions our real bond shows. I would trust all of them with my life.

As I walk into my room, I see that one of the older maids, Myra, is struggling to reach the top shelf of my dresser. "Let me help you, Myra," I chuckle.

She turns around, apologizes, and hands me the clothes. I easily reach the shelf and put them on it.

'Thank you, sir. You really have grown a lot in the last few years..' She smiles.

I also smile. "The years may pass by, but you never change. You still look as young and pretty as you were in my childhood," I say.

She blushes lightly. "Thank you." Then she bows and leaves my room.

I go sit on my just made bed. Looking out the window, I wonder what makes me so unhappy. I have everything I could wish for. A loving family, the best friends, a passion for music, talent, money...

Why do I still feel empty? What is my heart yearning for? A part of me is not content, searching for something unknown to me. It's like looking for a needle in a haystack in the dark. I lay down and close my eyes, my mind thinking about today's events, looking for an answer, wondering what sparked this feeling of want in me.
