Chapter 2: Mission failed

Jason serenely in an endless void of darkness that seemingly went on forever…the young man silent pondering over how long he had been here…how days…weeks…months…oh god what if it had been years? These thoughts quickly raced through the young man's head-almost dare say to the point of insanity.

The young man tried everything he could to keep his mind sane! At First, he counted the minutes…but minutes grew into hours…hours to days and so on; Jason was worried…worried that he would be trapped here in the this-this abyss without end, Jason swims through the molasses-like black substance sluggishly swimming upward and upward until he could scarcely spy a small white light above him-Jason immediately began to swim faster now…his body now swimming in an inky black void-a seemingly endless infinitude of the darkness that utterly surrounded by the thick walls of inky blackness slowly beginning to enclose all around him with what felt like water quickly flooded his lungs...with black and inky bubbles quickly spewing from in between his lips as soon stretched out a hand upward towards the fading light...upwards and upwards he reached...the dimming light by now that the man could grasp it in the palm of his hand.

Jason felt an odd overflow of joy and relief in his heart...his fingertips almost touching the small white orb of light...his fingertips inching closer and closer until eventually-the young man's eyes opened quickly with an almost wheezing gasp escaping his lips as his eyes opening with a staticky glow.

Jason's lungs burned sorely as air quickly filled them causing his chest to quickly heaved then compress; Jason feels his chest ache-lungs feeling as though were on fire with each breath as they quickly filled and emptied with large amounts of air, the slight burning sensation that wheezily followed each breath as his eyes briefly scanning the room-he was in a hospital room with various wires and tubes which connected the young man's body…Jason's vision slightly blurry with the sounds of the machinery attached to him buzzing in his ears.

"Oh good…you've finally awoken up!"an unfamiliar voice says

Jason startledly leaned back with his head quickly whips to the side-the young man stiffening up slightly as he soon sees three figures standing in front of the door.

"Commander Eagle sir-"Jason says weakly solutes the man,who returns the solute,"...at ease soldier!"commander Eagle says and Jason allows his arm fall down onto his lap limply.

Jason was stares down at the arm-the commander slowly shook his head sadly and a thought suddenly erupted in his mind-the cyan green pools of his irises growing wide with heart shattering realization.

"Juan? Rose?"Jason asked almost dreading the answer.

Again the commander's head as Jason scarcely heard an audible sigh again escape from in between the man."…I'm afraid we were able and to retrieve you…and even so we were still 50/50 on when or if you would wake up!" The commander stated rather bluntly.

Jason's jaw clinched tightly with mixed feelings of anger, grief and self loathing.

"You let them die!!"a voice screamed inside his head.

Commander Eagle warmly placed a hand on the young man's shoulder-his fingers tightening on Jason's shoulder with his nails slightly digging into the young man's shoulder."I'm sorry son…but there's you can do for them now…nothing except carry on l!"Eagle says gently-Jason nods…known that commander Eagle…he had to move on and keep living…as much as for his late comrades as for himself.
