Chapter 3: Not The Happily Ever After

Daisy stared blankly out the window. She was calmer than before, but she needed time to think. That's why she told everyone, including Hamlet who looked so worried, and also Mischel, her trusted knight to leave her alone in the room.

If this was 8 years ago, then Hamlet Ariaster was still Lady Roxus Croix's fiancé. Now it is not long before the woman finds out about her and Hamlet's relationship that she decides to cancel their engagement. This was when Daisy was young, where she often made wrong judgments about situations and made less favourable decisions.

Even so, if she didn't meet Hamlet, she wouldn't meet the man she loved, the love of her life, Leonid.

After breaking their engagement, Hamlet and Roxus parted ways amicably and Hamlet then proposed to Daisy as his new fiancé. Then, rumours soon spread that Hamlet and Roxus's relationship which had been fine was destroyed by her, the "third person", the homewrecker who was eyeing Duke Hamlet Ariaster's power and wealth.

But that's not true! The rumour was spread by Roxus because that woman was very upset with Daisy. Of course, Roxus had been trying to attract the attention of her fiancé for years, but Hamlet's heart had always belonged to Daisy, even from the first time they met when they were little. Just because Daisy is a daughter of commoners, without status or power, she cannot be Hamlet's fiancé.

However, as soon as the bad rumours about her spread, the Croix Family suddenly collapsed after the embezzlement case came to light. Count Eoin Croix proved to be the main perpetrator of embezzlement of funds that cost the kingdom billions of Kira.

Until the end, it could not be found where the missing funds were, but two days after the disclosure of the case, Eoin and his wife, Amaranth Croix were found dead after being attacked by mountain bandits.

Shortly after the collapse of Croix County, it was reported that Roxus and her younger brother Ernacht retreated to an area near the defences to the north. At that time, Daisy felt very relieved and happy to realize that this evil woman had now gone away from her life as if she would never come back again.

However, things did not go as smoothly as she thought. After all that happened, Hamlet started acting strange to her. Whenever Daisy did something, Hamlet began to compare her to Roxus.

Daisy is a chef, and that's why she managed to get close to Hamlet again. Daisy, assisted by Hamlet, has succeeded in establishing a well-known restaurant in the capital city of Bertia. But even Daisy's cooking is still not perfect enough for Hamlet, and the man even says that Roxus cooks better than Daisy.

Over time, their relationship grew apart, and that's when Daisy met Leonid. After two years of being engaged to Hamlet and enduring the pain alone, Daisy met the real love of her life.

After that began a long process between Daisy, Leonid, and Hamlet in understanding their true feelings. Hamlet realized all his mistakes and regretted them, while Daisy and Leonid got closer and finally, decided to become lovers.

Daisy also cancelled her engagement to Hamlet and decided to become the Crown Princess of Bertia.

But that's not a happy ever after, because the storm came.

Demons, the 49 cursed creatures that are recorded in history as the enemy of Gods, live in another world called Hell, the Black World. Due to The Heavenly Rules, Gods and Demons would not be able to fight each other. By calling the name of a Demon, humans or other beings other than Gods can make a contract with them.

While Gods are the 49 figures whose names are recorded in the Bible of the Gods. In this world, not many truly believe in the existence of Gods, but there are still those who obey and worship, as well as churches built all over the world to worship certain gods.

Lucifer is the oldest devil among the thousands of devils in Hell. One day, a human called his name.

A Human-Demon Contract is a contract that is both complex and simple. Humans will call out the name of a devil recorded in legends that are passed down from generation to generation, and the names of the devil are very difficult to find because the religious leaders have tried to erase the legends from the face of the earth.

Once their names are called, they will descend into the human world to enter into contracts with humans. Normally, devils would receive human souls as payment, and human souls would be converted into demon souls in the Black World, the Hell. Not only the contractor's soul but the souls of all humans who died due to the contractor's actions will also be paid to the devil.

In short, this is the devil's strategy to build up their strength against the gods. In exchange, the devil will help their contractor, the human, to achieve their wish in life.

However, the contract between Lucifer and Roxus was different from the usual Human-Demon contract.

"Lucifer," a woman's call interrupted Lucifer's nap that day. Instantly, Lucifer is dragged into the human world which for him is disgusting.

"Are you the one who called me, O Human?" asked Lucifer.

The woman smiled with her plump and seductive lips. "Lucifer."

"Yes, that is my name. Say your wish and I will grant it with my strength," said Lucifer.

"Of course, I will. But this wouldn't be a fair contract if Lucifer didn't say what he wanted, too," said the woman.

Lucifer blinked. His figure, which was only a wisp of red flames, was made a little dimmer. "What do you mean? My payment is your soul and the soul of your victims," said Lucifer.

The short-haired woman shook her head. Her long earrings made a small sound because of the movement of her face. "But if I'm going to get what I want the most in this world, wouldn't it only be fair if Lucifer also got what he wanted the most in this world?" asked the woman.

"A human, like you, will not be able to give me what I want in this world," said Lucifer.

"So, your deepest desires have something to do with a being of 'human'? What if my deepest wish is for both of our wishes to come true?" asked the woman.

Lucifer blinked once more. "Then, if I say that my deepest wish is to become a human, will you be able to make it happen?" asked Lucifer, despising her. Even when he expressed this deepest wish to the demons under his rule or the gods who were his enemies, no one believed it. So even a human, like her, might not believe.

"I would make it happen for you if I knew how," said the woman.

Lucifer looked at the woman again, this time carefully. A woman who was not beautiful, but so charming with her striking appearance.

"My name is Roxus Croix. Part of my contract with you is, I will fulfil your wish, make you a human at all costs," said the woman and stretched out her right hand.

Slowly, Lucifer smiled. "Good. I will accept your contract. If you fail to make it happen, then I will get the right to destroy your world and everything in it."

"And if you fail to fulfil my deepest wish, I will get the right to make you a human, so that you will be destroyed in a world that we destroy together," Roxus smiled with satisfaction.

Lucifer chuckled. Succeed or fail, Lucifer will become human. And the woman, succeed or fail, is likely to get what she wants. This was a fraudulent contract that seemed to violate all the rules of the Human-Devil contract, but in truth, it was a contract that was 'possible' and didn't violate any rules as long as it was properly executed.

The contract where both Humans and Devils are on an equal level.
