Chapter 17: A Crisis Solved

I flutter my eyes open from my nap. I lean my body up from my parent's couch and stretch. I pick up my phone from the counter and look at the time. It's been around 5 hours. "You sure needed that nap, huh?" I hear my mother's voice from the kitchen, and I stand up to see her. I walk into the kitchen and see she is making some food. "I hope you're hungry. Beef stroganoff is what's on the menu right now." She says that with a smile, knowing I love beef stroganoff. I look around briefly, and I notice dad isn't around. I look at her with a questioning look. "He is still playing that game. He told me he wanted to know what all the hubbub was about." I see no harm in that. I doubt he'll like it any. It's pretty complex. You need a steep learning curb.

I decide that I'm going to help mom, and I get all the sauces and spices ready for her. After I'm done with that, she chases me out of the kitchen so I don't snack on anything. I walk back to the couch and turn on the T.V. I turn it to the news station. Mom and dads T.V. isn't voice-controlled like mine. They think a remote is more convenient. The news channel comes on, and it's reporting and breaking news. The news in question is about the solution I made for everyone. "A person has posted on forums across the world anonymously. The post in question is a program custom-written to fix everyone turning into aliens." I guess people decided to try it and spread the word of the results, which is good. Now aliens won't be walking around.

I lean back into the couch as the program continues. "Whoever this anonymous person is hasn't come forward, and many programming and computer experts are claiming that whoever wrote the program is a genius when it comes to computer language and diagnostics." The reality is I'm a genius at anything that requires complex thought. I find it a little flattering, though. "The world wants to thank this mysterious person for saving the crisis that was on our doorstep. That seems unlikely, though, since the account that posted the program was a dummy account that led to a dead-end in identities." I made sure no traces of me were left on the forum. The only one who would know it's me is the one who set up everything.

The world will calm down in terms of chaos, but GBFT Inc. will still have the hate of the gaming community and people who had a hard time in their small window of alienfication. I'm not going to run the program on myself. Since the Primordium race looks exactly like humans, there is no need for me to change. "Even GBFT Inc., CEO Kelvin Dex, has publicly thanked this anonymous person because no one in GBFT Inc. was close to solving the problem. Some people even want the person to appear publicly so they can thank them. The most notable being Trillionaire Randle James since the program fixed his son and daughters transformation." I'm a little surprised to hear this, but I do not need fame. There is a reason why people with talents and wealth prefer privacy.

This is hopefully one of the only times I'll have to play the superhero. As fun as it was to write the program, that's where it ends. Everything I've come to learn with my abilities puts me in a unique position. That position is in power with all that I have now. I can do anything I want in the real world, but I have little need for that. "What would you like to drink, Scott?!" Mom yells from the kitchen, and I'm brought out of my thoughts. I tell her I'd take a glass of milk. After a couple of seconds, she brings a plate of food out for me with some milk. Once she hands them to me, she heads back into the kitchen to get hers and join me on the couch. She starts to eat alongside me, and the news segment switches to the UN.

The camera shifts to crowds with protest signs lining the sidewalk behind barricades. The meeting should be starting in 4 hours 44 minutes, and the crowd is only getting bigger. There are even some signs in the crowd thanking the anonymous person. That's a nice gesture. "Whoever this anonymous person is, they really did an amazing and selfless thing. Saving so many people without asking for anything. I hope whoever it was. They have someone to be proud of them." My mom speaks as she continues to eat. I have a happy feeling that goes through me. I don't think my parents or sister should ever know about my capabilities. The less they know, the safer they are, cause at least one person knows about me. They are probably watching me too.

Through the game, at the minimum, I'm going to set up that security system when I get home. I don't want to be watched by anyone. "Since you and dad are taken care of, there is no more reason to be here. I'm going to head out. Call me if you run into any problems regarding your new abilities. I'll help the best I can." I finish my food and take it into the kitchen to clean the plate. I make my way towards the door, and mom is there waiting. Before I leave, she gives me the biggest hug a short woman like her can muster. It's funny that I'm a foot taller than her. The height differences between the guys in girls in our family are hilarious. Well, not hilarious. It is chuckle-worthy though, I find it endearing that there are differences between us.

I leave the house and head to my car. As I look at my car, a new image flies through my head. Something has been added to it since I've been in my parent's house. I open the hood where the part is and head straight for it. I pull it out, knowing it's a tracker, thanks to my mind. I look at it in my hand, and it disassembles in my mind, and its tech is store in my memory. It doesn't give any indication as to who put it in my car while I was in the house. This just confirms someone is trying to keep tabs on me. Trying to watch me and learn about me, this confirms with 100% certainty that one person knows about me, now it's possibly more. I look around the neighborhood from where I'm standing, and as my mind absorbs information, nothing comes up as suspicious.

I get in my car and leave. As I'm driving on the freeway back to my house, multiple things happen in my head. The person who knows about me definitely did something to the programming for the scan. This is starting to look like a science experiment or something. The main thing being forced evolution. A process to push life in the direction you want and not the way it will naturally occur. "Whoever set these things in motion has a lot of power and a lot of money... I need to gather more data myself. If I can get even the smallest clue, I can put it together. However, they are covering their tracks excellently." I'm up against a person or people with all the time and money in the world. I don't even know if I'm the only one being watched.

Maybe other players that have abilities are being watched too. I'm the only Primordium, but that doesn't mean top players with the selectable races wouldn't be watched. They are experts, after all. I drive the trip in silence as my mind continues to try and find answers. I search through all the information at speeds faster than a calculable number, nothing in terms of potential identities pops up. I have to wait until they make a mistake. I get off the freeway at my exit and drive to my house. I open the garage with the push of my button, and I enter the garage. I get out of the car and open the trunk. I put out all the tech I bought at the store, taking it inside with me. I look towards the couch and see Jess watching a T.V. drama.

I let her have fun, and I take the tech to my room to start setting everything up. I spend around 20 minutes setting up security all around the house and property. It would normally take a person multiple days to do this, but not me. I sit down at my laptop and set up the connection, and make the firewall. It's not going to be penetrated by any normal A.I., and even if one does, I'll be notified. I learned a lot on my drive. I finish setting all that up and head into the living room and sit next to Jess. She smiles and continues watching her show. "So, are you ready to get abilities? Now that I'm here, we can run the program and get you started." She nods her head and turns off the T.V. with a voice command. We head to her room to start.
