Chapter 2: Chapter 1: The Past (Part One)

***This is officially chapter one***

Diamond's Point of View (POV)

I am running around the garden playing hide and seek with nanny Sage. I love nanny Sage. She is the best and she is like a second mother to me. My parents weren't home today. I think nanny Sage said they were having a meeting with a few important people that help govern our country. As I am hiding behind a tree I hear nanny Sage getting closer. I try to breathe softly and quietly because I don't want to be found. But suddenly I feel someone touching my back.

"Got you Miss Dia." Nanny Sage said to me while smiling.

"Awe, man. I thought I hid well this time. Did you peak while I was hiding?" I replied.

"No Miss Dia. Why would I do that? Remember what I have taught you. Honesty, compassion, and kindness are essential to being a good person." She said to me as we walked back to my family mansion.

"Yes, I remember! I hope I can be as kind, compassionate and as honest as you, Sage." I said to her as we entered the mansion.

Then I spot the head butler Jerry who was nanny Sage's husband. He is like a second father to me. They have been married for fifteen years and did not have any children of their own. A few years ago, I asked nanny Sage when I would get to play with her babies. At the time she said to me that she and her husband couldn't have children. But they were very much in love. She also said that Emmi and I were like her children so she felt her life was complete.

Nanny Sage went to her husband and gave him a kiss on the check. While I greeted butler Jerry, "Hey Jerry. Do you know when momma and papa are going to be home?"

He replied to me, "No Miss Dia. But I believe they should be back before you go to bed."

"Ok, thanks Jerry." I say.

Then nanny Sage asks me, "So, what would you like for dinner tonight?"

"Hmmm, I think I would like some seafood spaghetti." I replied.

"Ok, seafood spaghetti it is. Dinner will be ready in an hour ok. In the meantime, run up to your room and take a bath." Nanny Sage told me.

"Ok, I will see both of you in a bit." I told them as I went up the stairs to my room.

My room is very grand and spacious. I used to share my room with my twin sister, Emmi. Since she left I have felt that my room is too big for me. I have asked my parents to move me to a smaller room, but they always refused. A few months ago, Emmi moved in with my grandmother because she wanted some company. Out of the two of us, Emmi is the quieter one which made her the best choice as my grandmother Willamina's companion. I know my grandmother loves me to death, but she would easily get tired of me. I missed Emmi and I wish she was here with me. But our birthday is in two days and we will get to see each other. As I finish my bath I hear my stomach growl with hunger. It made me giggle. So, I quickly got dressed and walked down to the kitchen. As I get closer to the kitchen I hear my favorite person's voice. I run the rest of the way to the kitchen and spot her.

With excitement I run towards her, hug her and shout out, "Emmi! I've missed you so much! I thought you were coming home tomorrow!"

Emmi hugs me back and says, "I wanted to surprise you so I asked momma and papa to bring me home early."

As I release Emmi from the hug I see that my parents, grandma Mina, nanny Sage and butler Jerry are right behind Emmi. They are laughing with glee.

I walk toward my parents and say, "I wish I would have known you were going to pick up Emmi. I would have liked to come."

In a sweet voice my mom replies, "Aww Dia, it was a surprise. If you would have come with us then you wouldn't be this excited. Besides, we also went to pick up grandma Mina. She will be living with us from now on."

With glee I reply, "Really? That is awesome!"

In unison, my parents, grandma Mina, nanny Sage and butler Jerry say, "We have an early birthday gift for you both."

As if on cue, Emmi and I reply, "Really? What is it?"

My dad comes up to us and hands each a small box. Emmi and I look at each other and then at our small boxes. With smiles on our faces we quickly open our small boxes. Inside my small box was a beautiful silver necklace with a locket. The locket was round, thick and had a small emerald encrusted in it. Below the emerald was our unique family crest. When my parents married they decided to go against tradition and combine their families' crests. The rose on the crest represented my mother's family while the phoenix represented my father's. Both images were next to each other and around them were vines to represent the unity of both families. Within the vines there were intricate flowers. The outside of the locket was stunning. I opened the locket and it unfolded. As I was unfolding it I saw the reason why it was so thick. Once it was fully unfolded it stretched out to reveal five places each one holding a picture. In the first picture it was my grandma Mina and grandpa Paul who were my dad's parents. Grandpa Paul had passed away a year ago. So, seeing his picture brought back memories of him. In the next picture it was my parents. The center picture was Emmi. After that it was grandma Sarah and grandpa Joe, my mom's parents. They passed away two years ago. I have so many fond memories of them. Lastly it was nanny Sage and her husband Jerry since we saw them as part of our family and were like second parents to Emmi and me.

I look to my right side where Emmi was standing. Her locket was like mine, but she had a blue diamond above the family crest and the center picture was me. I smiled knowingly. I knew that the blue diamond and emerald represented our bond. But it was also a reminder of our names and what they meant. At first glance people would see identical twins. We both had the same heart shaped faces with a small straight nose, almond eyes with thick lashes, perfectly shaped eyebrows, full lips and dark chocolate hair color. But there is one feature that made us different. Emmi had green eyes while I had dark blue eyes. When we were first born our parents were amazed that we had different eye color. Emmi had inherited my mom's green eyes while I inherited my dad's blue eyes. After seeing our eye color, they named me Diamond and my twin Emerald. To them we were their precious gemstones and we represented their love.

Seeing our lockets, I knew they wanted us to remember how much we are loved. I felt very happy and I knew Emmi did too. I could feel her emotions just like she could feel mine. I guess it was our twin bond. Our sixth sense if you want to call it that way. I always knew what she felt and could easily guess what she was thinking.
