Chapter 11: Zombie Leader(Part I)

David Caber is one of the miserable people after the pandemic. He had lost his job, wife, son, and was about to lose his house.

He never had felt that death could be so beautiful. He could easily escape all his misery and difficulties.

David wanted to end it all—his hopeless and pathetic existence—and embraced death.

However, on one certain day, while he was sitting in the park with a dreary expression, the world suddenly came to an end.

It was ironic how the world ended first before him.

Or so what he thought as the world trembled. But he felt so mistaken when he woke up and witnessed the sight of horrifying creatures eating people.

They were tearing their limbs and stirring the innards with a joyous expression.

David was stunned. He recognized it immediately, in the age of information who doesn't watch zombie movies?

He shrunk his neck in fear. He didn't expect that cliches in movies would come out to be true.

Zombies in the flesh!

David took a deep breath and rested on the bench, he never planned to run—God, no—being hunted with these creatures was just horrible when he thinks about it. Moreover, he no longer has the will to live, not when he saw the love of his life in the arms of another man, not when his son called another man "dad", not when his family disowned him, and not when he lost his source of income.

David waited for the creatures to tear his flesh and end his worthless life. But it never came, on the contrary, it became quiet.

Confused, David opened his eyes. Then he noticed it, the zombies surrounded him.

They were looking at him, not with eagerness and enthusiasm to devour his flesh, but something opposite.

It was obvious, their stares, body language, and behavior. The flesh-eating monsters were looking at him with respect, like a peasant kneeling to their king.

From then on, David live in a whole new world. The feeling of power distinguished his love for death.

David shook his head: 'No, I am the death itself'

Days passed, he roamed the new world with his undead army. Every day as he increased his legion he discovered that the world after the end wasn't that simple.

Animals with insurmountable physiques. stray cats with elemental abilities, lighting fast birds, enormous apes, and more mutated beasts.

He even encountered humans with supernatural abilities that could kill him with a flick of their fingers. But of course, in the face of his tens of thousands of zombies, they were just ants.

David's strength was weak, very weak, nearly similar to a regular human. But to compensate him for that, he has absolute authority over any zombies he had encountered.

David stood in the center of the horde as he distributed stones each with different colors.

He looked at the zombies munching the stones with envy.

It was the stones the zombies would scurry inside the mutated beasts they killed. When they consumed the stone, their strength would increase considerably. He tried consuming one but unfortunately, he doesn't have that kind of privilege.

He had always been strikingly different from zombies despite his appearance—a ragged greyish corpse—he doesn't have inhuman strength and speed, he doesn't have sharp claws and teeth, and he also doesn't have an instinct like them, where they would unknowingly fight for something beneficial.

Looking at the elites he had chosen to meticulously strengthen, his white eyes suddenly lit up. One of the zombies was transforming, its flesh morphing into a different shape.

Moments later, he stood in front of a zombie with kangaroo legs, its long scaly arms were hanging like baggage, and its three fingers with blade-like nails shone as it reflected the light from the sun.

David nodded, at a glance, he could tell it had a qualitative change. To his wonder, its eyes change yet again. His speculation was right, all creatures—that mutated after the meteor hit—have strength division.

It could be classified by their eyes. Previously the zombie's eyes were bloodshot red, then after consuming stones its eyes change again, it became blueish, its overall body function improved. It was similar to the mutated beast he had encountered, a beast with reddish and blueish eyes usually doesn't have remarkable strength.

'Creatures with black eyes are a grade higher...'

David turned at the zombie with a meaningful look, with their indefinable connection, the zombie with kangaroo legs immediately understood his intentions.

With a jumped, it turned into a shadow, it was too fast for David to follow its movement. He looked around, trying to find its location, but by the time he found the zombie it had already slashed a bus into three.

David's mouth was wide open, forming an 'O'.

Strong!

It was just like the formidable beast with black eyes he had confronted. Without using crowd tactics, David doubts if he could even survive.

He looked expectantly at the 19 zombies with blue eyes. He could strengthen them if he fed one black stone or a dozen or so blue stones.

They were standing there, daze, as if they were bored from doing nothing. In the back were tens of thousands of zombies, who were slightly agitated. Weaker zombies were much more difficult to control, as they still themselves immerse in their primal instinct, in simple words—they are stupid.

David went on with their path, locating mutated beasts to hunt.

He looked at the horizon and saw an endless field of trees. If he wants to search for mutated beast then he would definitely find them in their home ground—the forest.

-----------------------------

Two days later, amidst the tall trees, he stood at the center of the zombie horde, trying to blend in the crowd. His expression is that of a father learning his son has five girlfriends.

He was proud and jealous!

For the past two days, he had harvested hundreds of stones or what he calls—energy stones, furthermore increasing the strength of his army, the elite force now had black eyes, while the rest had blue eyes.

Swoosh

The trees rustled, a zombie with kangaroo legs suddenly appeared in front of him.

David wasn't surprised he had slowly got used to this kind of behavior. The zombies with kangaroo legs love to sneak up on people, he wouldn't even be surprised if one was hiding in his shadows.

He looked at the zombie and he instantly understood, it found another beast with black eyes.

Continue!

David shouted at the tens of thousands of zombies, but what came out of his mouth wasn't words but an animal shriek.

His voice had slowly disappeared since he had woken up. It was one of the reasons he no longer thought he was a human despite his emotions and intelligence. Well, his appearance and fading human pity didn't allow him to be.

He had ordered his legion of undead a hundred times to kill humans. Their screams of agony and despair didn't bother him. Not a ripple in his emotions.

They arrived at the location, on top of a 30-meter tall tree was a large bat. It was hanging upside down while wrapping itself with its wings.

David could clearly see its wolf-like head. The mutated bat opened its eyes and stared at the army of undead.

Alarmed, the mutated bat quickly spread its wings, trying to fly away. Then, it happened, a shadow flew past the mutated bat. Its stretched wings slowly slid off its body, both wings were cut cleanly and silently.

The mutated bat screech from pain. It thrashed its huge body, as a result, it fell from the tree.

After a few moments, David approached the bloodied corpse, several broken bones protruding from its body.

He ordered a muscular zombie at his side to probe the beast. And just as he thought, the 'dead bat' suddenly sprung to its feet, aiming its fangs towards the muscular zombie.

The muscular zombie was momentarily taken aback. But it quickly stretched its arms and grabbed the mutated bat's head like a ball. With a crack, the mutated bat's neck was immediately twisted all the way to back.

With David's permission, the muscular zombie punched through the bat's head and pulled out a black stone.

David immediately became elated when the muscular zombie slowly evolved upon consuming the energy stone. Its body more became thicker and muscular, its height increased from 2 meters to 4 meters, and its eyes turned yellow.

After seeing one of his zombies became level 4—so what he calls—David unconsciously created a bubble of fantasy. He was invincible, with his army of undead no one can dream of touching him.

David marched the forest deeper with the unwavering belief of invincibility. But a day later, his bubble of fantasy burst.

He hopelessly kneeled on the ground, not far away from him was a huge violet wolf with green eyes, lazily lying on a stone platform.
