Chapter 3: Chapter 3

"That's why I came to talk to you," Leila whispered in Remi's ear once they spotted the back of a man in a dark suit, the subject of all the chatter. Remi looked back to Leila with a curious look "That's Hugo Tiano, heir of one of the most massive conglomerates in the world. They were throwing words of praise about him with the people I was before" she said with so much excitement that she could barely keep it low "Remi, if we got to talk to him we'd have our whole life figured out"

At Leila's words, Remi couldn't help but chuckle lowly as she inspected the back of the man named Hugo. His suit made him look big, with broad shoulders, but it was most likely due to the aura that emanated from him. Remi didn't know who this Hugo was, because in the end she was just a student and didn't belong to this world. Just as Leila didn't know either hadn't it been for the people she was before that began talking about him. Neither of them knew who he was, and hadn't even seen his face. But from the way he stood, and his demeanor, they could both sense the importance of this man.

"I don't think it's that easy with people like him" Remi pointed out, looking at his back with an intrigued look.

"I just have to sell myself, right? I'll think of something. But I need to talk to him Remi, how do I do it?" Leila asked her friend with her heart pounding hard.

"Remember who he’s talking to" Remi said, now with her brows slightly knitted in a thoughtful expression "Wait for them to stop talking, and maybe you can meet them later. Or try to find someone who knows him if the first option ends up being impossible"

Leila smiled hopeful and nodded, disappearing to begin with her mission. Meanwhile, Remi sipped another time from her glass as she listened to the gossip for a while longer. But it wasn't long until she began to feel tired.

Right now, the topic of everyone's conversations was that man: Hugo Tiano. So trying to talk about anything else seemed rather difficult. And even if it was possible, there still wasn't anything nor anyone else for Remi to talk to. So, in the end, she found herself slowly and unconsciously distancing from the vast group of people.

She had forgotten that this event was being held at a museum, and it was only now, after having realized that there wasn't much more for her to do, that she took notice of the few paintings hanging on the walls, and modern sculptures scattered around the ample hall. She walked through the few paintings, recognizing some of them, and inspecting in-depth those she didn't know. But then, she made out a sign over an ajar door that called her to take a look inside. She walked there and took a look at the empty 'Romanticism' exhibit hall. If the door had been closed she wouldn't have even gazed inside. But there were some lights on every painting that in reality only did but heighten the darkness of the room. Not being able to resist it, she entered the hall and approached the many paintings, spending a considerable amount of time in each one as she admired the details and colors of them all.

Meanwhile, in the other hall, people fought to get a word with Mr. Tiano, from companies that had long wanted a partnership with his, to people (mainly young women) that wanted to begin in the entertainment industry. They all thought that by gaining Hugo's good side they would get success without much effort. But at the same time, they all froze in slight panic whenever they saw Hugo's deep blue gaze. It was only then when most of them realized how unapproachable this man was.

However, there were still many people that were either too hopeful or too stupid because they kept on trying. Luckily, Hugo was used to having to deal with clingy and opportunist people, and he was well aware that it would be like this every time he attended an event. He didn't mind having to deal with other business-people, because even though most were unethical, and would do whatever to steal his position, they also knew better than to annoy someone like him. But then, there were the newcomers who didn't have any self-awareness.

Hugo had put up with too many people for the day, and after being pursued and stalked by a couple of women who either owned small companies or wanted to become famous, he decided he had had enough. After having dismissed them frivolously, he fled from the main hall trying to find a quiet spot where he could enjoy the silence and not have people suck up to him.
