Chapter 14: Chapter 14

The math building was easy to distinguish as it had numbers and famous equations adorning it like decorations.

'They sure do spend the money that they exploit from the student hunters well.'

Every building had it's own styles History had paintings and famous quotes everywhere.

After arriving at the main door, Alex entered and began looking for the class that matched the number on his schedule. After spotting it he smirked, the math classes always had the same atmosphere, it was calming and he saw books everywhere. His eyes glowed, he could practice a skill he had been practicing.

After choosing a seat in the back corner once again, he pulled out some paper and placed his books and folders to where they blocked the view of the sheet somewhat. He was one of the first few in the class so he shouldn't have to worry about prying eyes.

He then sent a stronger concentration of energy to the book he would be going over this year. He thinned it out and sent it in between the first few pages before finding where it began. The ink wasn't flat on the pages, and he could see it all he couldn't see what a few were but below he could see that they were referred to as pictures.

Much like in the other class he was able to see what he couldn't see, but now he could see everything his energy touched. Unlike his real eyes that were only able to focus on a small area at once, his energy had the potential to be like an all seeing eye.

Unfortunately, he was used to using his eyes and even though he could see it all, it was not instantaneous. He had used his phone to help find the reason for this, and he had found a video that explained that the brain had a limit to the speed it could process words, but that limit was far faster than most people have reached. It demonstrated it by having him read a paragraph, and then it showed the same paragraph, but this time instead of having him read through it, the video showed one word at a time. Slowly speeding up until the words were being replaced nearly instantly and he was still able to keep up.

Still his comprehension speed would increase rapidly with this new skill.

After a few seconds of looking through the first page, he looked at his paper. He had been copying down the equations and the ways to solve them. Similar to how some artist draw what they picture in their head.

While waiting for the teacher to arrive he solved the equations according to the solutions. He then looked back into the books and copied down the solutions in the books. He looked at his paper and was content all of the equations were solved perfectly except for one, and that one was only due to him writing a minus sign too small and accidentally ignoring it.

He placed the paper into his folder labeled for math. He saw a teacher in the hallway coming to the class with a stack of papers.

She then entered. "hello everyone. My name is Ms. Taylor I will be your new math teacher, I know you guys are already tired of having to do work on your first day back, so I printed a few fun worksheets. All you have to do is solve the equation then color in the area depending on what the answer is."

Alex looked at the sheet of paper, he had always had fun doing these, it brought back memories. He remembered his first one, he had completed it within a minute and asked his teacher for another one. When his teacher had run out, he simply started righting down similar equations, and solving those.

He felt a sheet of paper in his hand, the teacher had already passed them all out. He started working on it within a few minutes he had solved all of it. He went to the front of the class to gather up some coloring utensils, he could now leisurely complete the rest.

Alex had noticed that he was no longer in the advanced math class, he had not received a high enough score on a test to skip what he was now doing. He wandered how he was supposed to know high school level math without learning ahead.

He had colored in half the sheet by the time a second person had solved the equations. Alex was trying to pace himself to not set himself apart, but it looked like many people wouldn't even finish with the first half in one day. Sighing he reluctantly told the teacher he was done. "Already? You can keep it it's not being graded anyway."

Surprisingly another student soon stood up to turn his sheet in, it was the student who had finished the non coloring part in just a few minutes ago. Alex looked at the paper and smirked inwardly. Every box was correct, but the coloring part was scribbled in, William was trying very hard. 'Hah a rivalry it is then.' No matter when or where, each time he always had another student that attempted to beat or keep up with him when turning in work.

After math class was over, he went to his final class, science. All unnecessary classes were removed from the schedule so he could take magical classes. There was no art, no physical training class. Basically no less stressful classes, the only reason he was taking history was because a few scientists had stated that history repeats itself, causing everyone to be afraid of that happening.

After looking at the sheets of equations he had copied, he put them back in the folder. He then looked up at the science building. Covered with multiple different decorations, one that caught his eye however was an addition to the periodic table. Due to magic humanity was able to learn that fire had an base element that was created when it was, and died when it did. Even more frighteningly they had found a corresponding one for lightning. They figured that light and darkness had one, it could never be seen even with advanced technology. He looked at the list of fires and lightnings, all elements were present. it was mind blowing to look at, but he had also seen a few that had question marks.

'They don't know what makes them up, they must be powerful.'

Alex continued on to the science class, after finding it he was surprised the teacher was already there.

"Hello you must be Alex."

"Yes and you must be Mr. Elmer." Alex said while checking the schedule sheet with his spacial element.

Mr. Elmer had a look of surprise and then smiled. "That would be correct, take a seat anywhere I've got something fun planned for today."

'Looks like few students ever give time to learning their teachers name before hand.'

When the rest of the class had all arrived, Mr. Elmer introduced himself and begun with all the rules in his classroom and lab.

"With all that done and said let's get started shall we."

He moved to the back of the class where a chalkboard was. "Okay, does anyone know what Sir Primval's Theorem is."

He pointed to Alex remembering how attentive he was. "Do you know?"

Alex nodded in confirmation.

"That was about how magic imitates real life, however it is unstable and once energy supplying it runs out it disappears."

"Exactly every city could be invulnerable to invasion, if an overlord class mage were to construct its walls."

He sighed before continuing "unfortunately that isn't the case, researchers have tried ceaselessly to no avail."

"We did however learn one thing the magic is molecularly identical to the natural elements."

He opened a drawer and pulled out two models. "Mages were able to reach great heights because of this, this is a scaled up version of a water molecule." "And this is a scaled up water molecule created by magic." he then flicked a switch.

"Now can anyone tell me the difference?"

After a second of silence a clay raised his hand. "The second doesn't have electrons, it looks like the negative charge is coursing through the entire molecule."

"That would be correct, it's common to see the correction happen naturally, however when a mage actively corrects it, their power increases at a faster pace. For water mages if they were to condense ice, it would be as strong as prop glass, and once corrected it can be as stable as real ice. There are even molecules more powerful and stable than the real thing."

Alex listened to all that the teacher had to say, and just from the model that was shown, he felt a thousand ideas running through his head. The bell rung indicating the end of the class. Alex sighed felt like he was torn from enlightenment.

Alex shook his head trying to calm himself down. All the ideas had made his heart race, and he was able to connect many ideas that he already had.

Alex headed out ready for the first class where he would be next to others similar to him.

After all the students had left Mr. Elmer could be seen tapping his eye. He had an artificial eye. Him being, one of the many who look out for special cases. He was looking over a recording it took. 'Hmm I tried to scan him, but it malfunctioned and looked blurry.' He was looking at the 3-d model of Alex that his eye had created. It had covered his inappropriate parts automatically, and Elmer was wondering if it had malfunctioned and done the same thing randomly throughout, but he then looked at the second render.

'It's the same. We had word that he was a darkness mage, but he can already do this, amazing.'

He then turned the model around, and a frown appeared on his face. In between the distortion he saw many scars, lining his back, there even being one on the back of his right knee.

He sighed. 'It's too dangerous to interfere with him, the massive increase in power, and his history leave too many variables. Best case scenario I can convince him to join us over the years.'

He scrapped the model and deemed the portfolio not to be touched.

Meanwhile Alex was sitting down in the cafeteria eating what he had packed. He was trying to enjoy every last moment of it because he knew that he wouldn't have enough money to last him more than a weeks worth of food. He sighed and looked at the whiteboard, the food sounded appetizing, but once looking at the other students trays he could see that that wasn't the case.

He looked at the drinks with his energy, a majority of them would be set to expire today, some had even been a few days old.

Returning back to his meal, he finished up, it was nice. Even though it was crowded, nobody was screaming, and he wasn't getting yelled at.

He got up to go throw his trash away and leave. On his way out he heard a few girls speaking to their friend about boyfriends, when one said. "There you go now there's you a boyfriend."

He wasn't sure if they were talking about him but he didn't care. Ever since middle school, and the dating craze arrived, he had been asked out many times. Back then he couldn't find a reason to say yes, not to mention he had trouble trying to find out if they were serious. He had listened to many adults cursing out and making jokes about people of his background.

He continued on, the girls laughed at the one who spoke and got ignored.

"What are you guys laughing at, it's not my fault, he must be gay or something."

Alex stopped his steps for a second, but then continued on. He remembered second grade where out of boredom he wrote his best friends name on a sheet of paper. Drawing on the sheet he was very good at drawing. The teacher had ridiculed him in front of the class saying the same thing. It was seen as immoral, he had no attraction to his friend and wouldn't be attracted to anyone until he had the necessary hormones, and still yet the teacher had ruined one of his earliest friendships.

After Alex left the cafeteria, the guard on duty looked around in wonder he had watched a few metal railings bending, but when he looked again they were normal.

Alex sighed after exiting the cafeteria. 'Things are just the same, but at least there is some change.'

There are many religions that shame those that are different. One particular one had a famous apostle.

'The messenger from higher up, gave words that they just couldn't agree with. As if what he said was a slap in the face to their beliefs.' Alex sighed 'and they killed him in a gruesome and humiliating way.'

Alex loved hearing stories of such a man, he remembered of how he did the impossible. He hung out with those that were considered 'different'. Treating them just like any other human.

'Unfortunately, not everyone likes change, not everyone allows the outcasts the same livelihoods.'

'This apostle is very popular even now, but his teachings were warped and twisted. People use them to justify their deeds.' 'He was considered to be the first mage recorded in history, proven to be a real person rather than a fairytale.'

'People had found a way to control the mass. By fear that is how they control people.'

His mother considered herself religious, she justified beating her children, saying they deserved it for not following her words to a t.

'She has only twisted the truth so she can do what she wants. I've never heard her take accountability for her actions.'

He recounted the memories from the meditation he came across the past few months. He had learned history from first hand accounts. He watched quite a few civil wars, being about the morality of slavery, oppression of others, the silencing of others. He had seen people live through it, they built up resentment, and when it wasn't solved peacefully there was turmoil. Many people were silenced, slaves were executed, If it weren't for technological advancements, Alex was sure many groups wouldn't have the protections and ability to speak freely. He was sure there would be many more people who wouldn't return home.
